Yeah, that's also because defenses weren't as pass prepared, yeah the dbs could use more hands & etc, but the defenses themselves were less prepared to stop the pass system wise. Moss made defense develop to defend him.

Ya I wouldn’t go that far but a pretty amazing stat
Rice had 7,000 more yards & 50 more touchdowns in a run the ball era. That is insane.
Crazy man. He was special
So he had longevity and got the ball when folks were concentrating on stopping the run. Rice by far has the best career and stats as a WR, so that makes him the GREATEST, but Moss is better. Fitz is better, Megatron is better, AB is better. They don't have Rice's fanatical dedication. They don't have his willpower. They don't have his drive. They don't have his rings. But at the skill of running a route and catching the ball? Those guys are better.
Same argument goes for Brady. Undoubtedly the GOAT, but at the skill of reading a D and throwing the ball, the essence of Quarterbacking, Rodgers, Mahomes and Manning are better.

I Agree.........
No they're going off ability.
Nobody mentions that Jerry Rice and Randy Moss have unique gaits that allowed them to catch the ball in stride. Very few players have every had gaits like this at the elite level. That allowed them to stay in the same running motion throughout the play. The two hundred meter Olympic Champion Michael Johnson also had a unique gait in track and field, and this helped propel him to the top. Michael Jordan seemed to hang in the air that extra split second on his jump shot, essentially taking away the ability of the defender to block the shot. He also had massive hands which allowed him to palm the ball and change directions at any point, including in flight (unlike Kobe Bryant, who had much smaller hands).

The way people just casually disrespect Jerry Rice is insane. Randy was an exceptional talent, but Jerry was exceptional regardless of who was behind center or where he played. He consistently showed up in the biggest moments throughout his entire career...and he did all of his damage in a league significantly less pass happy!
Fr man dudes the greatest football player of all time in any position the gap between him and every other top 3 receiver is miles apart
Rice has even said, Randy is more physically talented than him and that if he had put the work that Rice did, he would probably be the GOAT. These are interesting arguments but I think the biggest hinderance to Randy is him bouncing around from team to team. Part of that is on him, his work ethic, and effort as a teammate. But the years with Tom Brady would be evidence if Randy had a pro bowl QB his whole career (Montana, Young) his numbers might have been better. But they aren't and at the end of the day its about your production.
Or maybe Montana and Young were pro bowl because THEY HAD Jerry Rice? How many pro bowl QBs DON'T HAVE pro bowl wide outs? They benefit from each other. Roger Craig won MVP in 1988 and had 2000 yards for a reason...Rice wasn't even the main focus of the 49er offense. So the fact he had the numbers he had in the 80's is even more impressive
Roger Craig never won league mvp. He was offensive player of the year that year rushing for 1500 yards and catching 500. If Randy moss isn’t a talking head on espn then this isn’t discussed. Former athletes becoming tv personalities has inflated what they did on the field because the younger generation sees them talking all the time. Jerry was unbelievable.
That's bs 😂 it's simply because MOST "fans" are casual fans and what THEY see from players in the era THEY watch impacts who they feel is the best. Most who say Moss simply never watched Jerry Rice other than highlights IF THAT
I saw both them play. And moss is better. He did more with less talent at QB and on roster.
@@newagain9964The only trash team Moss ever played for was The Raiders and whined until he was able to get outta there. He had Tom Brady in his PRIME btw throwing him the rock and he still wasn’t happy. Moss was nice at wide but his attitude does overshadow his game a bit. Jerry was loyal to the Niners until they sent him to Seattle. Win lose or draw he just played.
@@derrickbailey1714he did say Randy played on trash teams, he said less talented teams.
You could argue that moss underachieved...
Which is sad. I'm a huge fan. He took too many plays off when he was in his prime. That td catch against The Jets over Revis. Still gives me chills, though.
I give you that… Good one!!!
I agree. He had the talent to be the goat but work ethic could be factor.
Moss had Chris Carter to mentor. Jerry was Jerry when he played.
That’s a stretch, you could argue that but truth be told he’s one of the best to ever do it.
Anybody who says Jerry isn’t don’t know football , like he said Jerry played in the running back era , backs getting 2000 yards
Shannon doesn’t forgets the numbers when it comes to Jerry but he says “ forget the numbers “ when it comes to Jordan 🤣
Rice always said he wasn't the most talented, never the fastest, the strongest but he never got tired and is the goat wr. Also, look at his numbers without Joe amd Steve. They're still great numbers. Also, Jerry blocked down field, ran better routes, and went across the middle. Moss - go routes and didn't block down field
Moss did go across the middle.. & Moss did block down field….

Randy Moss arguably most talented WR ever height speed
But Randy Moss isn't the best WR ever he CHOKED in big playoff games
Antonio Brown better overall WR then Randy Moss in my opinion
Antonio Brown 2nd best WR I've ever seen After Jerry Rice
Antonio Brown can run ever route and elite stopping on dime and taking over big playoff games
Jerry is the Tom Brady of the WR position. Never the most talented but a work ethic and competitive nature that was on a whole other level along with that clutch gene that just can't be taught.
Jerry Rice wouldn’t have won anything without Joe Montana or Steve Young. Overrated 🤷♀️
@@justineebourgeois342010 1st Team All Pro & 2 OPOY & SB MVP
Name another WR that comes close to that
I only follow basketball, so I'm super late to the party but Shannon talking football hits different. Grade A analyst.
Don’t forget Jerry giving regular Joes the work on Pros VS Joes. God I miss Spike TV. 😂
He should be happy he’s mentioned with THE GREAT JERRY RICE😃
Jerry is by far the 🐐 I saw both of them play, and Randy did his thing but he didn’t change the position as much as he says. Jerry truly changed the position!
They had to create defenses for Randy Moss😂
@@luddman77what defense did they have to create? A corner playing off of Moss and a safety over the top. What is new about that?
@@357twilson it was how deep the safety was. The safety was basically in prevent defense in a 1st & 10. It was unheard of and randy still smoke them. He was doing this as a rookie.
@@luddman77 no they didn't, they just had to double team him like they did for Rice. The exaggerations aren't gonna work on people who saw them both play. Rice is by far the 🐐
Are you serious? The term you got Mossed was created because of how dominant he was.
And JERRY DID IT FOR HIS WHOLE CAREER. Randy was lazy at times.
You can't get lazy when Joe Montana & Steve Young are throwing perfect passes
@@MikkiChavez i'd actually say the opposite - rice kept montana & young from being lazy because he was always open
Facts! When I look at Jerry's stats when he was "out of his prime", they are still impressive. Never seen a receiver like him.
To be honest Jerry admitted to cheating at times.
@@shadysif6220 Unless he was spiking defenders gatorade drink sthu man wit that stupid comment
Love hearing Tom Rathman being mentioned in 2023 lol thank you RC
whoever says that Moss is better than Rice clearly did not see Jerry play.
I will always say this it’s 1.Jerry Rice 2. TO 3. Randy Moss I will always put TO above Randy because what ever you need him to do he do it pass block, run block, etc it does matter cause he will give you everything he got. When comes to Randy Moss I will never forget when he say h plays when he want to. And you have to remember when The Philadelphia Eagles made it to the super bowl with Donovan TO showed out….
I have the exact same top 3 as you
Facts
Thank you totally agree 👍
TO showed out on one leg and was the best player on the field for either team
I might take T.O. number 1, just based on what they could all do at Wr. T.O. was probably the most versatile tbh.
Not to mention he missed the whole 1997 season as well. Couldve easily gone for another 1200-1500 yards. And is still as far as he is😭
Was in superbowl at 40 and scared the F out of my bucs
You can’t say they ran the ball alot when he had a multiple 100 Receptions seasons. Even most receivers in today game cant get numbers like that
But they did as in the NFL in a whole was run heavy back then... but the 9ers had rice and rice was killing folks
Say you young without saying you young smh... You had to be around then
Exceptional in different ways.
Agree 100% Jerry Rice best receiver. Also I remember Jerry stating to be the best you got to run a lot of practice cone drills to make those hard slants/cuts to be capable to do it in the game making it hard for defenders to do the same guarding you.
Greatest Deep Threat In NFL History Period
Yes sir... Tyreek Hill right behind him
Desean Jackson aint no slouch......
Deep threat? Moss is .... Rice is known for Yards after catch
@@MrEOM41Jerry Rice did it all. Deep ball, slant, screen, whatever. Pull up the highlights.
Jerry Rice could just carve you up any way Burger King have it your way 🤣🤣
Jerry is the 🐐 but that fried chicken helmet he wore in that commercial was bad move. I was like Jerry noooooo 😆 🤣
“Mossed” is the only words you gone hear when a WR get a good catch. Nobody saying you got “riced”
A catch phrase? A catch phrase he made up, not the media. That's your argument. My rebuttal, 7000 more yards 50 more tds and he won a sb. Multiple
Rice was a great blocker, threw and ran for touchdowns. He is greatness personified.
One of Jerry’s greatest weapons was knowing how to avoid the hit
He great weapons bill Walsh Joe Montana and Steve Young! A hall of fame coach thst invented the west coast offense and 2 hall of fame qb's one being the second best ever! Yeah I'd say those are good weapons to have as a wide receiver lmfao 🤣
@@RAnixonwhat about when he put up #s with the raiders and seahawks lol
@bangladeshirealtor I totally agree but just think if randy had Joe and Steve caliber qb's for the first 5 to 7 yrs!?😬
Lmao is he serious 😂. The guy has zero super bowl rings to back that up. And how many does Jerry have ?? 😂
No WR has ever impacted the game Moss. A WR that doesn’t have to run a route he just runs right by you and throws his hand up. He’s open every time.
Unless u double cover him over the top. If he had heart maybe. He didnt
Ugh Randy is gonna make us all indirectly disrespect him by comparing him to Jerry... Noone wants to do it because he's great, but he's forcing our hand lol
Jerry Rice caught 22TDs in a strike season playing only 12 games in 1987. Only his 3rd year in the NFL. How long did it take Randy to score at least that many in a single season? His 10th season. And that was with the 2007 Patriots with 4 more games played. Jerry's the fking GOAT.
Stats aren’t everything
@@dean3438 "stats arent everything" bro produced more in a less qb friendly game. Moss was great, but I cant pick him over the dude who performed better in big games, played at a high level longer, and had better production at his peak. Moss had the tools to be better than anyone, but he wasted years in Oakland due to being unmotivated, and only got sent there since he was a lockerroom issue.
@@Dameatii I’m not defending moss but I’ll take him and Calvin Johnson over guys like rice. The level of nfl players was different in the 1980s /1990s the talent just keeps getting better. Rice playing well in his 40s is great thou. All I’m saying is there are guys like sterling sharpe, terrrell Davis, Bo Jackson, etc. who didn’t put up a bunch of stats and were great so stats don’t tell the whole story.
@@dean3438facts
Emmitt Smith has the most rushing yds and tds ever. He has MVPs too. Emmitt isn't even top 5 to most people.
Everyone had Barry over Emmitt.
Point is Like Emmitt Smith, Rice got drafted to the best situation. Those 49er teams had the best o line, qb and defense. Plus a hall of fame head coach who won the superbowl before Rice got drafted.
Moss is the better player
You need a championship ring to even enter the conversation. Mr. I play when I wanna!
I'm not big into sport, in general, but everything, and I mean everything, I've ever heard Shannon say, I agree with, just from how logically he presents his arguments.
7,000 yards more is crazy and 50 more TDS in a era were the safety can head hunt the whole game “drop the mic” miss my GOAT Receiver but when I found out bout Jerry Rice stays after hearing he was the best was mind blowing. Rant play great when he wanted to Jerry Rice played to a standard and the 49ers don’t win 5 Chips without him and in football in the 90s it was bout running.
Rice is #1, and it'sd not even close
The amount of stick’em he used you didn’t even need to catch the ball. It’s randy number 1
@@Gmossy11 Moss was terrible in playoff games
@@Gmossy11all you do is make goofy arguments it seems lol
I’m team Moss💯 and it was said Prime didn’t tackle..so why is he the GOAT! Moss played against better defenses. Period!
You don't even have to go by the numbers. You can watch hour long highlight compilations of Jerry Rice, and you can see how insane he was. Additionally, if you watch a highlight reel that goes year-by-year, you get a headache from how long Jerry Rice is elite for. It's just impossible to believe that the guy was still an elite athlete in year 12, 15, 16.
