What to Do when you Feel Disconnected from God

What do you do when you feel disconnected, distant from God and you feel as though you’ve lost your passion for God and your spiritual life just feels stagnant? Stick around and find out the solution.
Hey welcome back everyone my name is Allen Parr and I am SO EXCITED about our word today. Every so often it’s normal to feel disconnected from God so I want to look at two verses today and give you four steps you can take to reestablish that intimacy with God. The author uses the imagery of a runner who is trying to reach a goal. I am excited about our word today! Everything we need to know in order to restore out intimacy can be found in these two verses right here.
1. Lay aside the WEIGHT - “Let us strip off every weight that slows us down”
a. Normally something that is innocent and harmless but it’s something that consistently diverts our attention, drains you of your energy and hinders us from developing intimacy with God.
b. It could be a particular PERSON or PEOPLE
c. Busyness - Your schedule is so filled with activities. And if you’re serving in ministry in any capacity the danger is to confuse activity for intimacy. Duty NEVER replaces Devotion.
d. Disappointment with God and that is blocking your intimacy with Him
e. Career, overtime, etc.
f. Social Media
2. Eliminate the SIN - “…especially the sin that so easily trips us up.”
a. When you and I have some perpetual sin that is reoccurring in our lives it creates GUILT and GUILT creates separation from God. And then you have to break through your own guilt and conviction to try to reestablish that connection with God. But it’s difficult when you find yourself caught in the cycle of sin and confession.
b. So identify that sin and truly repent of it so you can experience intimacy with God.
3. Walk in PURPOSE - “And let us run the race…God has marked out for us.”
a. One of the reasons why you are feeling disconnected is because God has a specific purpose or race He intended for you to run. And when you are not running that race it creates an unrest within you because you’re doing one thing but deep within you know you should be doing something else which leads to feeling disconnected. Let me give you a few questions I encourage you to ask yourself if you are trying to find your purpose.
i. What negative experiences has God allowed in your life that God can recycle to help others?
ii. What do you see wrong that you long to make right?
iii. What gift(s) have other people consistently affirmed in your life?
b. So I encourage you to figure out what your God-given purpose is and walk in it!
4. Focus on JESUS - “We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus.”
a. Do the things that foster intimacy (consistent quiet time). Remember, good Christians meet with God when they can; they fit it in when they can. Great Christians meet with God at a set time every day.
b. There is NO short cut to intimacy. If you want it you must be willing to put in the work and time.
So if you’re struggling to feel connected with God be encouraged. I’ve been there so many times in my own personal walk and so have so many others. But the good news is that just like in any relationship if you’ve ever experienced intimacy with God you can get it back by following these 4 simple steps.

Dear God, I pray for this person and ask that you will give them a connection with You that is stronger than ever, and that it will just get bigger. Please help them with every day and help them to hear you and listen. I pray they will find peace and truth in the Bible and do what You want them to in every situation. Amen.
Before watching this video I was desperate and thought God didn’t love me anymore but then I realized that I gave God way too little of my time and gave the world way too much.
Amen! I had to think back on my day because I was wondering why i was slipping up so easily and not really feeling God's presence and that's because I'm giving the world too much time, well that's about to change.

I know the feeling it’s been me the past few days. Someone told me, first off confess your sins to Him, repent off of them. Examine yourself, they read a story about a bride from Songs of Solomon. It made me realize that well for me I only really turned to God for help cause i needed His help not that I wanted to love Him the same way He loves me. So I repented on that too I had to be honest with God and tell Him everything. Still tryna fix things with Him but I feel a lot more better now after confessing to Him and also after you’re done just tell Him how badly you want Him in your life and all will get better. Get to know Him more it gets better trust me. You will be okay I will pray for you 🖤

Just know, salvation isn’t easy. There’s a reason why the road to Heaven is narrow. Just like any relationship, you will have ups and downs. Learning to trust in God during those ups & downs is what truly strengthens your faith. Praying for you
I’m so shameful of saying this- but I am too lazy to read the bible and sometimes pray. This is something that I feel like is so unforgivable. I feel so bad. I’m trying my hardest lately because I keep sinning. This is not the way I should live, I should live by serving my king and by living for the reason he wants me to live. I am so disappointed in myself.
There are Bible apps that will read the text for you. Even if you just start with a few chapters a day, it could make the world of a difference. I often read along as the app is reading the text. Even if you are just listening to a few chapters a day while you’re riding or driving a car, every little bit helps.

that's my biggest sin... that and cursing. but sexual sin ruins me. I know God loves me, and He loves you too. but I can't help but feel shameful.
I drink alcohol and it makes me feel this way.... And it causes me to do other things sexually and it has me in my feelings when i know that we should be lead by the His spirit....

Andrea Gobec Something that really helped me was to tell Him everything, and I mean _everything._ I used to avoid certain thoughts because I knew they weren't true. But they kept comming back. And this one time I just layed them all out before Him, as incorrecr as I knew they were. And then told Him how I felt about it, also that I know they aren't true. And then told Him I fear something wrong with me for feeling this way. And then I told Him I trust Him with this too because He sees in my heart and knows better than me and I know He is good and loves me.
It was a long time ago but it went something like that. Since then, I always do this. I just tell Him everything, and how I feel about the everything, and... just anything I can think of I tell Him. I believe He leads me to better places when I do this together with Him.

Thats why you repent your sins to God. God loves the sinner but not the sin. You go to him and repent your sins and then you will be forgiven. It makes you unworthy if you are unwilling to repent, and people feel as though they are unworthy because of there sins and it keeps them away from God, when God wants you to come to him with a sincere heart of repentance.
Sometimes it gets hard to repent. You feel like you're lying to God, so you don't even repent anymore.
I'm not saying we should disobey God on Purpose! but what if we want to back at People for their Wrong doing!? what about people attacking others just for calling them Names ! ? ! ? ! ? ! ?
I'm a college student. And these have been the hardest years in my life. I've never sinned so much. And often feel disconnected. And I struggle to keep in touch with God. That's what led me here tonight. I talk to him all the time but still don't feel my worth. I subscribed to this channel with hopes that I will find my way back.

Chandler yes. I do. I fear if I don't get my Christian path back on track that I'll be disconnected from the family I've been so longing to see. I pray everyday but it feels so off because I don't feel like I put enough faith in my Lord and savior.

Are u willing to trade the amount of time u play video games to read the Bible? Are u willing to turn video game time into praying time? Jesus asks these same questions to a rich man. Jesus asked him to sell everything he had and he will be connected with God. When the rich man heard this he was sad and walked away. Don’t be like the rich man. Just don’t.
The fact that you're searching out connection with God during this time is SUCH a good sign. College presents so many struggles for our faith...I relate so hard with your comment, because I remember feeling the same.

It's okay, just make a sincere effort to get closer to God. Fast, pray and read your bible. Tell God that you love him and you don't want to feel the way you feel. Have faith and be encouraged😊

Hi :) I experienced this a week ago because I started considering that what if the atheist or agnostics are right? During that span of time, I felt so sad, bothered, and I am not at peace. I started doubting about the bible. What I did next is I prayed to God. I said that who ever you are, or if you are really the God that I believe in, if you are really Yahweh, Jesus and the Holy Spirit working as one.. please give me peace as a confirmation that what I believe is true. During the praise and worship, my faith went back on fire and I was in so much peace when I started thinking about how was I able to feel love and be loved if the God who creating me isn't loving. It gave me a confirmation that He indeed is alive and will always make a way for me if I allow my heart to be open. All of a sudden I have confirmed that the bible is true not just because of the facts that naturally happening around, but because the God that is in the bible is the same God that is evidently working in my heart and my life. I hope this helps. Be honest to God about how you feel and admit that you need clarify, confirmation and peace. God bless you

What to do
Memorize certain scriptures that is connected to what you are dealing with. So that when that temptation comes, you remember the Lords word and call on God to reveal your escape from the temptation. This has helped me.
You are right. You understand me. I feel disconnected from God i no longer feel the Holy Spirit of God because of sin. I want to get back to God. My faith is getting weaker. I want to feel the Loved of God again.

When I was a kid, I always talk to my playmates about God, on how good He is and I was so proud of myself because I share everything I know about Him. But now? I feel really disconnected but I'm trying to go back again and build a strong relationship with God.
Can I get some prayers? I’ve always believed in Christ, but I am starting to doubt my belief of believing. I know that he is the eternal God, but I sometimes question if I believe it.
I've been there too. But yet, I still find myself praying to Him. It is a hard feeling. Why it happens I don't know but I know that struggle. These are hard times and we cant let Satan try to deceive us. Even when I felt that way, something deep down would still make me say, Thank you. Jesus!

This is really amazing. I have been dealing with the struggle of pornography for years, I also deal with sexuality confusion as well and makes me feel far from God at times but I do know that he loves me. I have been reading my bible each week and I pray a lot . I know the first thing is removing certain things from my social media and separating myself from certain people.
I know that I am going to continue to keep growing with God but I thank you for this reminder. We are not perfect but I Know that all of us are growing and learning in God! You guys got this!

I value your intimacy now that I feel so far from you. Please bring me back into your sanctuary where we have daily fellowship and I could feel your presence and taste your goodness. Remove from my heart the things that have crowded it. I don't want to feel without you, there is nothing more precious and more wonderful than knowing you and serving you. Their are a few "heavy weights" I can identify that honestly drains my energy, diverts my attention away and hinders my intimacy with God and one of them is social media honestly I feel social media can be so addicting and you find yourself on it for hours maybe and we should be giving our time to God not our phones so I'm learning now to eliminate the very things that are hindering me from intimacy with God. His grace is sufficient!!

@Allen Parr please pray for me. I am so depressed. I thought I was doing a better job of praying , but I am having so many problems and disappointments. I don't like my life. I admit I am angry with GOD and jealous of other people. I try not to feel that way but I am so weary. I wish GOD would reveal things to me in my dreams , but my dreams never make any sense. I feel like it's too late for me; I want a career not just a job. Know I am better off than a lot, but I am so depressed lately. My health is bit that good right now. Things have been going downhill for me since 2012 and I am so tired. If u are not really Allen Parr plz don't pretend be and play a joke on me to get in my business like someone did to me the other day pretending they were Joyce Meyers. That was very cruel. I have a job but I have to stand a lot and it is killing me I can barely walk and I can't run at all. I would love to go back to school to get a career that I enjoy and that would prosper me financially. Plz help.

If Adam never ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, and only Eve did, would all men be born perfect and sinless while only women be cursed and born in sin? And if so, how would male/female descendants cohabitate if only Eve was kicked out of the Garden?
My older daughter believes that there would be no reason for God to wipe out Adam as he would have done no wrong. She believes Eve would've lived a lonely life outside of the garden and that GOD would've made a new woman for Adam. Your response would be greatly appreciated. Be Blessed 🙏🏾

Billy Graham once said that in college, he wrote to his mother saying he couldn’t get anywhere in his prayers for weeks and that he couldn’t “feel” Christ. She wrote back and said he’d accepted Christ whether he had feeling or not, and the moments where he didn’t Christ were the moments where He may be the closest, because that’s the moment where you have to walk by sheer faith and God may be testing you.

Could you please pray for me? I've had food addiction (overeating to the point of health issues) for ages, and I've started procrastinating again (which has led me to losing my job before) and watching movies with profane language and blasphemy. Plus, I am ashamed to confess that I have lost my interest in God and faith. Every day, I feel pasisonate about a lot of things... which are not God and/or which are contradictory to His will. I really would love to feel that passion directed towards God, not the pleasures of this world.

I think you will enjoy the content on this channel and the community we are building here. I understand about the purpose. I am trying to walk in mine as well but teaching the Bible doesn't pay. Lol. So, I've gained encouragement from biblical characters like Paul who was a tentmaker by trade and an apostle by calling. Jesus was a carpenter by trade and the Messiah by calling. Many of the others were fishermen by trade and "fishers of men" by calling. So, I will just keep on making tents!

I read the bible everyday and pray everyday but I still sometimes feel disconnected. I didn't have the same passion for God like I used to; I used to read 8 bible plans a day, read a chapter of the bible a day, pray every morning and evening, wanting to spread the gospel with a passion, watching dozens of sermons per week, listening to only christian songs, being more kind and gentle, and being a better person through Christ every day! I mean, I was more on fire for God! Now, sometimes throughout the day I feel this depressing feeling of guilt, lonelinesses, and disconnection from God. I didn't even use to listen to secular music but now I feel like listening to it. I'm more angry and stressed, every time I realize I sin after a few minutes I feel a terrible sense of guilt. Every day this block of guilt and disconnection comes in. I don't know when this started to happen. One day, I randomly felt like this and my spirit just felt down. I don't know what to do anymore.
I'm going through something similar, I been getting distracted lately, plus I feel like god is mad or tired of my sinning, sometimes i ask for forgiveness multiple times in prayer even though I already asked for him to forgive me for those sins ,I also feel as well like i always sin every few minutes, it does get me really stressed, but I'm going to still try my best , cause i think rn it may be a test/trial , I will pray for u.

Allen thank you brother, praise God man i thank him that I can watch your vidoes and that he uses your words to speak to me. Ive been encountering challenges now harder than ever befor but they all become so much easier cause I'm walking with God and he shows me it clearer when as befor things were still hard but because I was trying to fight the battle on my own it was super harder and the situations weren't as intense. But God turns everything negative into something positive when you seek him and let him take control and he is speaking to me so much. Thank You again for your videos and emails. God bless bro
I have to admit that when I first started watching this video (just found your channel while searching for guidance on this subject) I was thinking "Oh no, just another worldly dude preaching at us". But I stayed with it because I've really struggled a long time now.
As I listened I realized that the way you were laying this out wasn't just another recitation of Scripture. You nailed it.
I don't want to go into a long speech here. Suffice it to say your words have infused me with new hope and an actual direction to pursue.
I've Subd and am going to check out more of your work but in the meantime I just want to thank you for this powerful lesson and I will be sharing it with others. You can't imagine what this clear and simple lesson just did for my heart.

2. Get a community of Christians around you that can hold you accountable for how you live the Christian life.
3. Read the Bible every day
4. Pray and talk to God daily

I feel disconnected from God because I am so disappointed with him in that he let my marriage burn. it's been 3 years and it still hurts. I am trying to get back into my relationship with God but it's just really hard. thanks for the video.
Brother, I feel for you man. I've been in that place where I've just felt disconnected from God too. I've tried to read, pray, fast, etc. And I still felt distant. People had to remind me that it's just like a marriage. Sometimes you feel close and gitty with your mate and at other times you don't. We just can't go on feelings. Stay strong DevilDog!

Hey Brother! Everything happens for a reason! And possibly God let it happen because he probably wants something better for you, or to focus on your purpose! Sometimes we question God why instead of Thanking him! God always has his reasoning! Instead of Questioning embrace him :)

Junior Amor 7 Your not alone my friend. This is the one thing that I struggle immensely with. It gets to the point where you feel like your suffocating and can’t stop. I will be praying strongly for you my friend because I know how horribly difficult it is to resist the temptation of pornography. You go for a couple weeks and then boom it hits stronger. We are in this together my friend.

i try so hard to have QT with God but i feel like im not getting close to him so i get bored and i give up. i ask him all the time to show me anything im my life that is hindering him from spending time with me and giving me guidance but i get nothing from him. i dont understand how im supposed to live my life for him if he dont help me and give me guidance because i cant do it without him. and i tell him that give everything to him and nothing is off limits and still i get nothing from him and it really makes me what to give up because i think whats the point but then i realize i can't live without him and i get some upset because i dont know what to do and i get so frustrated with God because i know he can give me just one little word but i get nothing 😖
Lisa Duke Sometimes God makes us wait for an answer because he's preparing something even greater for us. My number one piece of advice to you would be to READ YOUR BIBLE! Although it may be boring or hard to understand at times, is is SUCH an important tool. Not only does God speak to us through it about his promises and plans for us, but also guides us as to how to live our lives in accordance to his path. Keep chasing God, don't give up. You are his daughter and nothing can push you away from his love and grace other than sin and doubt! God bless you!!
Also, the best version of the Bible that I've found is NLT (New Living Translation). It is really easy to understand and pushes you to keep reading! Hope that helps ❤️

oh man i learned something from this book called why do we have temptations by bob mummford and it said even if you dont feel God He is there it is like a dad telling his children i am going to leave for awhile, and tells them to behave and dont watch anything there not supposed too. It's all so legalistic. There are so many dos and don'ts and rules and lists of all the reasons why God ignors us.I don't think it is right I think when you ask and beg God for help, he should at least ackwoledge you.
Is that too much .can he really assert that ignoring us and leaving us feeling abandoned is for our own good? I'm trying but I just can't see how being ignored is a good thing for. Why must i keep hearing that God ignores me for a long list of reasons. I'm trying, but I don't believe the promises that every one says he makes

If a prayer is answered "praise god", if it goes unanswered, "praise god, its all part of his plan". There is no accountability. Good things happen to bad people, and bad things happen to good people. The problem of evil in the world(theodicy). What you're hurting from is cognitive dissonance. You want to believe in god and what everyone claims about him, but you're smart enough to see that things aren't adding up. Stop listening to other people and how they try to justify gods actions. If you want answers, I challenge you to think about morality. Not the chaotic rules and regulations in the bible yet. First, What do you find to be good and bad. Then start reading the bible. No one telling you what to think, no cherry picking. READ THE BIBLE. See if you can get past genesis 38 without saying "ok, this book is crazy and immoral". There is nothing wrong with you if you don't believe. People want you to take it on faith. Well all religions take it on faith and believe as strongly as the others that they are right. A lot of people have to be wrong if there is a god. If faith can lead you to a correct answer and an incorrect answer, it is not a pathway to truth or knowledge. It is the answer people give when they don't have a good reason for what they believe. And ask a lot of questions. The truth has nothing to hide from investigation.
You have to understand that it is our sin that separates us. It’s not that God wants to be apart from us, in Genesis he “walked with man” (Adam) but once they introduced sin into the world 🌎 God couldn’t abide where sin was because he is holy. When God instructed the high priests in the Old Testament to purify themselves before entering his presence it was so they would be safe. When Aaron’s two sons did this wrong they were burned up by his presence. It’s safe to say that God understands that he needed a mediator to bring his presence back to the people, so that’s why he sent Jesus.
