I am Jordanian and I live in Saudi Arabia. It is very peaceful country with loving people. The government supports its people and provides them with all needed services. Education is free, medical insurance is granted to everyone everyone even visitors.
It seems Americans are quite jealous of the great achievements the beloved crown prince has done.
The Economist is British. And the achievements are from oil revenues.

Things are not black and white. To answer your question of "which one is it," the answer is BOTH. He is trying to reform the country, yes, but he is also authoritarian, has jailed Sheikhs, killed journalists, and will jail anyone who speaks against him.
Overall, he is pushing Saudi Arabia towards a more "progressive" and "liberal" legal system and culture, but he is doing it through authoritarian means. Situations are often complex, so don't be surprised that this is not straight forward.

I’m not a fan of MBS but the fact this topic was chosen to be discussed at this particular moment when MBS started leaning towards eastern countries really questions the credibility of the economist as an organisation. I wonder how much of an influence does American imperialism have on the economist.
Edit: I am not defending MBS. As a matter of fact I hope the Saudi Arabian population organise a revolution and remove MBS and his family from their position. The government has allowed the killing of my Muslim brothers in Yemen for years. There are also communities in Saudi Arabia that are suppressed from living freely.

Their foreign minister also attended a meeting this year with the organisation for the first time. Incase you don’t know what BRICS is, it’s a group of countries that plan to use an alternative currency to replace the American dollar as the reserve. This group contains countries that represent over 40% of the worlds population. You think USA aren’t worried?
