Homemade Open Pour Soft Plastic Baits (Clay Molding, Silicone Casting, Plastic Pouring and Fishing)

We've made some DIY fishing lures on this channel but never any soft baits. I figured it was time that changed. Here we made several different types of swimbaits and flukes - all made completely from scratch. I demonstrate how to make a clay mold, cast it in silicone and finally pour the soft plastic fishing lures. In the end we take them out and try them out on some fish and they did not disappoint!

Half an hour well spend for me, must have taken a big effort. Rudder acts true indeed. Makes me think if you put braid in with a loop in front for hooking the head and a hook in the tail might increase your chances? Thank you!

I've messed around trying to make my own hard crank baits but it's difficult to get the shape/action/weight right. Lips for diving are difficult.
But after seeing this i might have to finally try the soft plastics. You did a great job making it accessible. And catching stacked up pond bass is right up my alley.

I think what has worked best for me when a bait isn't working/swimming right is to compare my bait side by side with my favorite manufactured one and try to spot any subtle differences in the design that might make their bait swim better. It usually takes several tries and in this case it took about 5 different tail designs to finally get something that I liked. My main mistake was trying to make too many baits at once. If you focus on just 1 soft plastic bait it is very doable as long as you have a space to do the plastic pouring (the fumes are horrible). I really like the clay molding because unlike wood when you make a mistake you can always work backwards to modify. I found it much easier to get a shape I liked.
