    Nice Job.... I am in the process of converting an 8x16 v-nose cargo trailer into an RV and Mobile Sign Shop. I am just starting the walls and cabinet construction. I just sold a 15-passenger shuttle bus that I lived in for 3 years and traveled out west during the winters. I had to sell the shuttle bus because I purchased a large format color printer to make contour cut decals/stickers, koozies, t-shirts, magnetics, banners, mousepads, etc. The large format color printer would have taken up a lot of storage space so I needed to get something bigger. I did a complete conversion series on the shuttle bus from the ground up and now am doing a new series on the cargo trailer conversion. They are on my YT channel.

    I have a 6x10 that I just started converting. I would love to do it just like yours. The windows and the shower got my attention. How did you made that possible with such a small space.

    • @CupcakeandCornbread
      @CupcakeandCornbread  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! We use the shower space for storage when it's not needed: closet space, cassette toilet, shower supplies, etc. When we shower, the clothes are drapped over the bed and the items on the floor are moved out. When finished, we wipe down the walls of the shower and put it all back in - it takes just a few minutes to put everything back. We used a standard replacement window from Lowes - it was about $50. To me it was easier to cut a rectangle, and the installation was easy. Good luck with your build - it will be great!

    Great build! I do have one question about your traveling in the heat of summer as well the dead of winter. How do you keep the trailer from reaching extreme temperatures in transient from one camp to another? I’d think it would be like a furnace or freezer inside during those times.

    • @CupcakeandCornbread
      @CupcakeandCornbread  ปีที่แล้ว

      The cargo trailer is insulated, but you're right, it does get fairly hot/cold while we're driving (depending on the time of year). Because it's a 6x10 cargo trailer (only 60 square feet), we just open up the back doors and window while we get settled during the summer and hook up our generator or shore power to get the AC going. If it's during the winter we turn on our propane heater to warm it up, then bundle up under the covers and we're fine (then turn on the heater in the morning). If it would be extreme temps (I'd say below 20 degrees), we'll use the generator/shore power and a small electric heater.

    That window doesn’t look large enough or easy to open in case of fire. Do you have a plan for a fire escape?

    • @CupcakeandCornbread
      @CupcakeandCornbread  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is relatively small, but in an emergency I can pull out each part of the window and squeeze through (then go around and open the door). May not be idea, but it will work!

    I have the same 6×10 Homesteader trailer and like and benefit from your videos. Thank you. I was planning on building a fold down bed off from the drivers side wall which would be long enough for me to sleep on. Now thinking of building my bed as you have. How tall is Cornbread? I am 5'9 1/2 ".

    • @CupcakeandCornbread
      @CupcakeandCornbread  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm (Cornbread) about 5'10" - Cupcake's about 5'7". I have to sleep at an angle sometimes, but it's usually not an issue! Thanks for watching - we're taking a break for a bit now but have a lot planned for the near future!

    • @CupcakeandCornbread
      @CupcakeandCornbread  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a double/full size - we had to cut off a few inches of the length to get it to fit properly. Cornbread has to sleep at a slight angle, but it has worked out well!

    With the new renovation do you know what the overall weight of your trailer is now?

    • @CupcakeandCornbread
      @CupcakeandCornbread  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      honestly, I don't - i haven't had any issues when towing and know it's below the limit, but I'm sure it would be a good idea to have that information. I'll post when I do!

    My husband and I are currently building out our 6x12 and using your dresser under the bed idea but we were wondering what the height of your trailer is? And what is the height of the dresser you used.

    • @CupcakeandCornbread
      @CupcakeandCornbread  ปีที่แล้ว

      Inside height is right at 76" to the ceiling - Cupcake is 5'7" and 5'11" and it's fine for us - we don't have to duck. The dresser is about 33" tall and takes up all but about 14" of the wall to wall space. We used a small metal drawer to fill up the rest of the space (with the 2x4s supporting the bed above). Hope that helps! Sorry for the slow response - I'm sitting in a laundromat in Laramie, Wyoming at the moment trying to catch up!

  • @NoZenith
    @NoZenith ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Any chance you guys have taken this and gotten it weighed? I'm really curious what the final weight is and whether or not my vehicle would be able to tow something like this

    • @CupcakeandCornbread
      @CupcakeandCornbread  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We weighed it when we first built it out about 3 years ago. It was about 2200 lbs after the build. After the most recent redesign it weighed in about 2400 lbs. We had a Toyota Tundra and it pulled it easily - I forget we were towing it at times. We recently traded it in and got a Toyota Tacoma - still pulls the cargo trailer with no issues at all.

    • @NoZenith
      @NoZenith ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @CupcakeandCornbread oh for sure, any little truck would do amazingly with something that light! I'm going with a hatchback so I'm trying to keep it under 2,000 lb all in at its maximum weight and it looks like I could do that!

    I'm really surprised you didn't add solar capability. I think you could squeeze in a modest system. I like your renovations. We have a 6x10 as well, but it doesn't have the side door (hindsight being 20/20). I definitely recommend replacing your separate canopy with an attached awning. I teach scuba out of our trailer, but we've slowly retrofitted with off-grid features and convertible elements. We had a 10x10 canopy for quite a while, but adding the awning was a huge improvement. Here's what we've done so far...th-cam.com/video/Bp0AfAK-YoM/w-d-xo.html

    • @CupcakeandCornbread
      @CupcakeandCornbread  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We have a 100w solar panel we use with our jackery 1000 and 240 and that provides all the power we use (unless we use our ac, then we use a generator). I definitely want to replace the separate canopy - I'll certainly watch your video! After we add an awning I'll use the canopy in the low position to cover our generator in bad weather. Thanks for the info!
