Nick D’Virgilio is an amazing drummer with lots of variety and busy career mostly in prog however great performance and chemistry with the rest of the band on this album.
Super sad indeed. I don’t know why any band has to call it a day, why not just be inactive until you want to do something instead of endless reunions. Except that Farewells and Reunions sell! 👍
Up On You and I Am You are the 2 best songs on the album. The Frame has very pessimistic lyrics, I was surprised by that. I like the album but need to listen to it more. Thanx for the review. I like that you always show the physical product, to me that gets extra points.
Awesome review Brendon. I guess I'll be adding this to my wants list! Quick question...what will you eventually file this album under when you put it out with your other Mr Big albums? Hard rock or Glam metal? Maybe something you might consider adding to your comments when showing new albums in your collection. It would be handy to know from my perspective, as I try to categorize in a similar way to you.
Honestly after hearing this album, I feel Mr. Big could keep going for two more albums at least. As Good As It Gets really shows off Nick's contribution to the band and Sunday Morning Kinda Girl is Eric Martin at his most exuberant.
I like the album although it was a little bit of a letdown at first, this has a mellow vibe to it, Paul and Billy are barely shredding in my opinion, it’s missing the one song that they can go nuts with like the drill song or Colorado bulldog. Even the cover of eight days on the road is very mellow compared to Foghat, still sounds good but makes me want to listen to Foghat. With that being said, the songs are pretty good and I’ll probably enjoy this album more after a few listens. If it’s a last hooray I was expecting to go out with a bang, instead we get middle of the road attitude
Two listens on this one so far. Overall decent but not yet great. Still need to listen more. I'm new to the band, so trying to draw a bead on the band's stylings.
Make sure to give the first 4 albums a listen, they’re all a little different. Then try Get Over It that features Richie Kotzen (Poison, Winery Dogs) on guitar. Like Poison’s Native Tongue album it’s different but good. They’re basically a band that has technical prowess but can also write a good song with melody.
Except their Ten was a debut and meant 10 eyes, hands, feet…all coming together. Whereas Mr. Big is calling their album Ten because it’s actually their 10th album. Which I think makes more sense in the end even though I’m a Pearl Jam fan and love the album Ten too.
“to be with you” was a double edged sword…they had big sales with it, but as a 45 year old, i was a kid watching MTV at the time…and i hated that song. it was played to death
If its true that word around the campfire is that this may be their last album. With the talent on display they could have gone out with a real bang but imo this is bland, boring and very tame. Dont like it at all, very disappointed.
We must be listen to two different albums because he sounds great to me. He may not sound like he did when he was younger but he still sounds like Eric Martin.
Not sure the “If you like Mr. Big you’ll like this album” is the compliment you think it is. Lots of talent here, but the song writing is quite mediocre. It’s an average power pop album. Nothing to get excited over.

If you haven’t already 🤔 maybe it’s a good time for a ranking of Mr. Big albums? 😁
Planning to pick this one up very soon. Been a huge fan of the band ever since the debut. Sad that they are calling it a day.

Totally agree.
Thanks for the great review !
I wasn’t that familiar with Mr Big. I streamed it and enjoyed it. Then I listened to their top songs and they were familiar to be. 😊

If you listen…I call them “Glam Metal” legends at the beginning 👍
Will there be an album ranking coming up? I only have a couple of their albums 👍
Yes on Thursday! 👍
@@BrendonSnyder that was quick. I feel so lucky! 😆. Thanks!

I kinda lost Mr. Big after the fourth album I never knew they put out so many albums. and I didn't know Paul Gilbert left .then came back.
😎👍
Wasn’t expecting you to mention Status Quo.
Nick D'Virgilio!!!
Yay!!
It would've been better if they had covered 10 songs from the band Ten, and put Bo Derek on the cover.😎😉
Great idea but I’ll always take new original songs over covers any day of the week and twice on Sundays 👍
@@BrendonSnyder Me too. I was just being a bit facetious.

Both aren't shredders anymore which I completely understand
@@mikem.7921 Billy totally shreds in the winery dogs and Paul shreds like a maniac on his solo albums so they sill shred, just not much on Mr big
Agree

@@BrendonSnyder Thanks. Sounds like it's up my alley. Your description sounds like Winger who I like a lot.
Pearl jam did ten as a studio album as well

It definitely lacks energy and balls.

Eric's voice is shot sorry to say sounds horrible on the album

Eric's voice is still excellent. I just saw them live and he didn't miss a note. Spot on as always.

I disagree…it might not be their best but it’s all still good music. So IMO if you like the sound of the band you’ll like the album.
