I first saw this way back in the late 80s, and I was all, "Huh?" A few years back after being reminded of it, I then found a show interview with him from TV from back in the day, on his native German television I think, and he performed for a few seconds an AMAZING classic operatic passage entirely in that high register of his flawlessly. The host then reminded the audience that they did not use any tricks to change or manipulate the vocals, that that really was the real voice, pointing out that such an operatic vocal was extremely rare in male vocalists. I just discovered him last Thursday. I’ve been watching his videos over and over again. I fell down that rabbit hole since I’ll be up at 1am watching his videos when I have to get up at 6am for work. He’s in my iPhone wallpaper now.
Yeah, I've missed my dad who died last week but Nomi's incredible and beautiful voice and face expressions make me happy again. In the same week I got to know Nomi's music better. Before I listened his music I thought it's only opera music, when I was reading about famous people who died from AIDS. No, it's a combination of opera, rock and pop.
I was exposed to Klaus by way of The Venture Brothers in which he was a henchman (along with Iggy Pop) to The Sovereign (David Bowie), however I had not a clue what his name was. Thank you for posting this video so I could finally put a name to the suit, hair and bow tie. I’ve officially got some listening to do.
I remember finding an ancient upload of this MV around 2012 when it was just a low-def video of a VCR recording. The low-quality made his costume look so uncanny that it actually ended up in a popular "creepy videos" playlist lol. But in retrospect that design (a classy derivative of one of David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World" "suit") was an amazing fit for a very distinctive act. Taken too soon.
This is what began it, a friend showed me this video uploaded to another channel something like 15 years ago now. He shared it as something weird, not necessarily to mock but it was weird. And I fell in love with it immediately, and been a fan ever since :)

Clicking on this video a few months ago was probably the only good thing I’ve done during that time. Fell down a rabbit hole about this amazing guy…. I’m not drinking anymore, nearly liked me through alcohol withdrawal and knowing that drinking is why I felt so sick all the time…. I was afraid I won’t like music anymore. But it took a good week and yeah, I’m still very fond of music and still love this.
He also backed him on TVC15 on the same SNL episode. He had a toy poodle on wheels he pulled around that had a tv in its mouth showing the performance.
Tremendo vozarrón del sr Nomi....lo conoci por otro vídeo aconsejado y de verdad en el calza perfecta la palabra artista...... sencillo, auténtico, comunicador, provocador y fundamentalmente transgresor.......
I remember in the late 70's into the early 80's I would go shopping at Fiorucci's. It was an Italian fashion store on 59th Street off Lexington Avenue in NYC. They used to have all those "New Wave" clothes there. I use to buy the Fiorucci jeans. They were really tight and expensive. Well, I would see Joey Arias (I think he might have worked there) and I would also see Klaus Nomi. I assume they were good friends. They were always talking to each other. Those were such wonderful days. I loved that store and bought so many of their jeans and sweatshirts that were hand-painted. I miss those days. I also miss the fashions. They used to have champagne parties at Fiorucci's as well.
This was on one of the first “bizarre / creepy videos online “ in mid 2007 on list universe. I loved it, began researching klaus & loved everything he was doing from that point on. Ditto on Joey :)
Omg! You just reminded me of that website! I used to be on it everyday and discovered many amazing things, places about the world.. and now I've actually been to/seen the places that were once on that list ❤
He reminds me of the original Kryten (the robot servant) in the first series of Red Dwarf. But Nomi's width of vocal range is brilliant. And his stage persona is wonderfully crazy.
Just watched Madonna’s performance of Live to Tell in Rio, and was surprised to notice Klaus’s image in the collage of all the AIDS victims. But after learning that he was big in the NYC East Village scene then it made sense since that’s where most of Madonna’s friends at that time were from and the East Village was her main place of establishing and growing up as an artist. What an amazing and talented artist Klaus is❤️🔥👽
I didn't quite get this when I first saw it a couple weeks ago, but since then I can't help but come back to it over and over. What a showman! I'd love to see a documentary about this man and his stage persona.
Woah crazy I remember seeing a low qual version of this back in 2009 and forgot about it and it randomly pops up all these years later in HD as an official upload. Good deal. Cool version of this song
This is what I should be watching in an insomniac anxiety daze at 1:00 in the morning. Take me back to public access television and the early days of the internet.

My favorite version of David Bowie's "man who sold the world" was with Klaus singing back up
Is he gay?
He also backed him on TVC15 on the same SNL episode. He had a toy poodle on wheels he pulled around that had a tv in its mouth showing the performance.
Tremendo vozarrón del sr Nomi....lo conoci por otro vídeo aconsejado y de verdad en el calza perfecta la palabra artista...... sencillo, auténtico, comunicador, provocador y fundamentalmente transgresor.......
where has this been all my life
I remember in the late 70's into the early 80's I would go shopping at Fiorucci's.
Otherworldly voice and performance
The guy is so extremely underrated.
I grew up in the 80s, but only recently learned about him because I grew up in the US, not the UK.
the operatic bridges with the 80s vibe is pretty amazing
Excellent la qualité vidéo, merci !!!!
It's so nice to see this in higher quality...
He reminds me of the original Kryten (the robot servant) in the first series of Red Dwarf. But Nomi's width of vocal range is brilliant. And his stage persona is wonderfully crazy.
クライテン懐かしい!
夢に出てくる…
This guy is fantastic !
Wow his voice is amazing
Look for The Nomi Song documentary
Klaus: "Mom... Dad .... I'm Gay"
Parents: "We sort of guessed already"
Your missing eyebrows say it all...😁
heck yeah! Klaus is a super interesting to listen to!!!
do yall remember when he was on SNL with David Bowie back in the day???
truly a classic!
It makes my heart happy to see this.
Just so brilliant and watchable. And it sounds like heaven!
Incredible voice
Los más hermoso que e visto
This never gets old 🍙🍙🍙 thx Klaus for the eternal inspo
The algorithm brought me here and I’m so glad it did
声の表情が豊かでサビのファルセットがめちゃくちゃ綺麗
なるほど平沢進のCOLD SONGの元ネタ歌った人だわと納得してしまった
Woah crazy I remember seeing a low qual version of this back in 2009 and forgot about it and it randomly pops up all these years later in HD as an official upload. Good deal. Cool version of this song
This is what I should be watching in an insomniac anxiety daze at 1:00 in the morning. Take me back to public access television and the early days of the internet.
