This man literally baked pies for people he liked. And his friends said just like everything Klaus did his baking was a study in perfection.
He must've been a very sweet and sensitive person. A great artist gone too soon. So sad that he died alone. A rare gem.
Hw must have died alone a long long time ago..
@@sirandrelefaedelinoge He died in 1983.
In everything I’ve read about him, everyone said he was the kindest, sweetest man they ever knew.
@@littlesinga they always say that
He was diagnosed pretty early in the AIDS epidemic when people were very afraid of contagion. It is very sad to hear people who worked with him and were friends but couldn’t face visiting him in hospital. He is often considered the first “celebrity” who died of AIDS@@sirandrelefaedelinoge
He was the kindest man I have ever met.
Literally you met him?
You really met this sweet soul??? How lucky. ❤️
Please tell us more!!!!! You met him?!?😊
I swear Edward Scissorhands was based on him.
If Nomi was alive for sure copyright law suit for Edward 😂😂
I was just thinking if ever a film was made about Klaus, Depp would be perfect for the part and then saw your comment about edward scissor hands 😮
I swear this was the inspiration of the SNL "Sprockets" sketches.
@Cris-ic2ze klaus was definitely not alive when that movie came out. Klaus was a friend of friends of mine like Joey Arias and Manny Parrish, the dj and Klaus died in 1983 of "GRID" it was called back then.
@@vivienwade4378depp 20 years ago sure. Not so much these days.
There was some kind of melancholy and sadness in his eyes even when he smiled. So sad he passed away at young age.
Yeah, he passed due to his wreckless lifestyle. AIDS got him.
Your so right, seemed very intelligent but sad
He knew he was dying. He’s completely covered so as not to show the kaposis
@@justinelliott3529 Sad to read this. Years later he could have been saved. 😪
@@justinelliott3529 No, Klaus did not know he was sick in this interview it wasn't until early 83 when he started to getting sick.
Hard to believe that he would now be nearly eighty years old!
Never. He will always be young and beautiful and strange, much though we miss him.
What a fascinating, impressive man. I was a teenager when he was becoming famous, but at the time I did not understand what I saw or heard. His bravado, just like David Bowie's, opened doors for many. I hope he had many good times in his life, despite the terrible way it ended. How so few of us are so brave and beautiful whereas most of us are so cowardly, lazy and opportunistic.
Yeah, aids took a lot of legends.
Oh my god...klaus was more than everything that was told about him..was an artist was a wonderful singer from ténor to contre alto..he was a man ahead of this time. .im 55 ...i bought his first record when i was 13....still listen to him...and sometimes i cry...brought so much in my life..my late mother was a fan..she was a Mezzo-soprano and even she was not a fan of contre ténor she always told me he was so much talended that nobody could say anything...i belong in a world of musicians and we all know the power of talent...excuse me...i used to be fluent in english but time goes by...klaus for ever
Your English is perfect! I am sure it is better than me trying to speak whatever your native language might be. I know some French, italian, and German, and there is no way I could write as well in any of them as you do in English. Please keep posting. You have a lot to say, and I for one want to hear it.
Much as I'd like to reach back in time to slap the interviewer, I'm very glad he did the interview and that it's been recovered after all these years.
“Much as I felt like slapping the interviewer …” lol lol yup
Slap him why? I’m not opposed. I’m just wondering what makes u want to slap him.
@@Broken_Cracka "Clownish mutant"--fortunately Klaus Nomi was nothing if not civilized.
Why? Calling someone a clown isn't exactly a compliment, given Nomi's deliberate and precise vocalizations ...as a start
This interviewer was a bit rude - referring to Klaus' self-created persona as "clownish" and "mutant." As if he were totally unaware and unfamiliar with the developments of the time. Nomi was clearly an innovator with incredible talent! In 2022, he would have survived the terrible illness that took his life......Such a loss.
the real clown is the pseudo-journalist
I know. What a jerk. Would he have said that to Bowie?
It was just the irreverent punk style of interacting- he was kidding. Tons of interviews had the same approach. It was just banter.
Interviewers seem to have been a bit rude about men with particular looks back at the beginning of the 80s in a general manner. I remember Boy George and Culture Club in a talk show, the interviewer destroyed him for like 40 minutes talking about his looks and nothing else. Even though there were glam rock stars like Bowie and Bolan before, I think people were still very posh and conservative. We are a lot more open-minded today (at least I hope so).
I like his look, his eyes, his smile..... Nomi style
A complete jerk!
I was expecting him to be such a divo, but he is seriously the sweetest soul. RIP Klaus ⚘️ Edit: Not that being a divo is a bad thing - far from it - but I love a humble artist.
Oh no, I think being a diva is horrendous. No artist has warranted the right to be a rude, arrogant, demanding fuck to everyone. You can sing better than most people, thats it. Your not saving or changing the world.
Klaus in English , so that what sounds like
This is amazing
Unfortunately there are not to many interviews with him in it
Not many people today know about him so glad I discovered him when I was 17 , and now I’m 25
Found him watching the man who sold the world live
Been a fan of David Bowie since I was 8 , so glad this introduced me to him
A amazing talent taken to early , he was so young
Rip Klaus
Aren't you special for knowing about him?
@ sirandrelefaedelinoge
I honestly didn’t know wether to respond to your comment
What’s that supposed to mean , I don’t think I’m special,
I just said that I was happy I know who he is
I even asked my mum who is a lot older than me and she had no clue who he is
A lot of people don’t know as he wasn’t around very long and he was in a kind underground scene
Isn’t that what TH-cam comments are for I can say what I like as long as my statement isn’t hurting anyone
If you say something mean I’m not responding
he was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ahead of his time. He just reminds me of that age-old belief in the entertainment industry, thats says "always remember that someone before you, lit the path that you walk". So, when you see or hear guys like Jimmy Somerville or Boy George, or Pete Burns or even Lil' Nas X..and especially Adam Lambert....just know that, but for Klaus Nomi, Sylvester, David Bowie, and Elton John, we can only imagine how long it would've taken for American society to be ok with incredibly talented men, wearing makeup and flaunting femininity, more than they flaunted masculinity, all while wearing women's clothes.
He wasn't as avante garde as people think. He was just doing what was done in cabaret in Germany in the 1920s and the 1930's. The problem was that as a genuine counter tenor he wasn't very good. Huge influence on others though especially Bowie - who was even more influenced by Anthony Newly, who taught him how to create the illusion he was a much better singer than he actual was.
He was such a humble and shy man. Thanks for posting :)
Humble yes i wouldn't say shy. Extremely confident maybe a bit of an introvert.
Beautiful voice, beautiful eyes, beautiful beautiful beautiful
Agree. So beautiful
It's 1:20 am in the morning. I don't know why but i tend to discover "unique" things on YT like this during these early hours.
What a sweetheart he was. I would love to have been his friend and to sing together, wearing fabulous costumes. Everything he did, he created himself. True talent. Love him.❤
I lived thru the 70s and 80s and never heard of him till now. What a peculiar man.
Search for total eclipse. His voice is amazing
You say peculiar, I say unique!
@@leerush6978 I say BOTH.
Amazing voice, and sad he's gone.
It is sometimes a struggle to describe Greatness.
This guy was so unique.
He had such a wonderful voice. I am old enough that I remember him frm the SNL appearance with Bowie. Sad that he died so young.
Thank you! I'm looking for footage with Klaus like for ever, I'm happy to have found this on his very birthday... :)
Just discovered this gem of a man. I love him!
Great amazing singer. Loved his avant garde look. This interview shows how intelligent he was.
I love his voice and he's handsome, beautiful face
He reminds me of 1920s silent cinema. He looks like he would fit right in
I love it so much, extremely rare footage. Thanks a lot
I do miss charming , intelligent wit ; that ultimately can shock and absolve you all at once so as to be a beautiful memory that lingers still.❤❤❤
Love his voice
He seems to be from the Yoko Ono School of Entertainment.
@@richardpatrick2852 Funny! That cracked me up. You have a point. He's a bit much. Five minutes is four too many.
Klaus, we all miss you!
WHAT AN ARTIST! 👌 very sweet and extraordinary and unique.
Thanks to the internet and people like Alan's Video Collection.............people like Nomi are now immortal.
As the old saying goes.......a true artist is never revered for their craft until after their death. Unfortunately, this is true.
But now he is immortal, and people around the world can love his work.
Thank you so much for this! I'm a huge Bowie fan and have just come back from Berlin after doing my pilgrimage there!!! Even though I also considered myself a huge Klaus fan I didn't know he spent a lot of time in Berlin, had I have known this I would have seen what I could have found out about where he went and what he did so I could have paid homage to this wonderful man too. 💜
May I say you look amazing ?
Fascinating. His English (and accent) are very good. There's just a hint of German to his accent. Interesting to hear his regular speaking voice and learn a little about his background. -- I'm sure I mustt ave heard him at some point, but somehow, this is new to me. Sorry he's no longer with us.
Great Artist, love all the songs he was able to record. R.I.P Klaus
I want him back.
Beaucoup d'humilité pour un artiste absolument exceptionnel, en tout temps, en tout lieu! Merci pour le partage!
Mort à 39 ans avec autant de maturité...je me sens si jeune à 53 ans!
what a lovely person
He started off smiling and bubbly as always (btw he also spoke perfect English with just a tiny bit of accent ) and intelligent and then when he called him those names his smile disappeared and you could see real annoyance
The host seemed to be a bit rude, that's just my opinion.
What wonderful footage. Both the interview and the video are new to me, 40 years later.
He's STILL relevant and SO interesting.
Thank you so much, i've never seen this interview, what a gem 🖤
❤ " Absolutely Fascinating " ❤
The AIDS epidemic stole so much from us that it's unfathomable. I was not even born yet when Klaus died, and he might have still been with us today if it weren't for this stupid, awful thing which tore so many young, beautiful souls from the Earth.
I think the politician's ( Reagan! ) answer to AIDS was horrible!
@@sdgakatbk 100%
He had successful shows in the Midwest area of the US in the 70s!?
Wow, I wish I could see those venues
Really?? I wish I could see those too!
Looks like Bowie in 'Absolute Beginners'
Maybe bowie copied Klaus 's look here? Hahahah
Absolute begginers were later... 1985 (??) after Nomi' s death
@@happy-sadclown2169 I immediately saw Till Lindemann in the Rammstein video for the song "Radio". I was wondering where that particular look came from.
So shy and very sweet. I adore him so ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
I like his performances and singing ..I enjoyed this interview now I like him even more🐱🌷💃🌞
He's dressed as a noir character😍
Thanks for posting this!
And to think he was dead within a year from this. :/
So he designed his own costumes, I did not know that. Thank you for this upload. I subscribed to your channel.
I’m really enjoying getting to know this artist. I only remember him very briefly from the 80’s, and rediscovered him recently. Too bad he was taken so early; I think he would have gone so far. ❤️
love this thanks for posting
Many thanks for all these great Bowie and Bowie-related clips, Alan.
Glad you enjoy watching. Little bit of history in the recent bits I published. Learning all the time :-)
Alan, ditto! Would love any other delicious little nuggets you find! I've been a David Bowie devotee since my early teens, and only newly "discovered" Klaus Nomi thanks to you. I'm subscribing and will keep an eye out for your wonderful additions to music nostalgia❤
Merci pour ce partage !
Thanks so much for uploading this. Very interesting.
BOWIE A GENIUS IMO him and klaus great friends
Extraordinary and wonderful artist nearly forgotten time to discover him.again
i beyond love this! his intelligent straight forward responses to a few ridiculous questions. the video at the end. i was all set to see him, and then … he was gone 😞
shine on brilliant start✨
A treat to come across this.
Pop+Punk+Opera = Nomi
The first mistake is to put a label on any art…He is just pristine… I had forgotten how I was captured and enraptured by punk in the 80s thank you for this…( the quote from Dr. Seuss comes to mind here…”Don’t be sad it’s over. Be happy that it happened”)
Визионер...
Nice one, Alan. ty.
Great interview.
I love him even more
Thank you 🙏 ❤❤❤
Klaus !!!
Haber descubierto a este genio fue una de las mejores joyas musicales que aprecio y valoro! Saludos desde Buenos Aires, Argentina.
😢😮❤ Maestro of Maestros i remember you from 1975 ,from the performance at Saturday night show i hope that i can see you in heaven sincerely Jose Silva from San Diego CA.
Captivating!
Fascinating Artist, natural Super Freak.
Left us way too soon....
I remember watching him perform with Mr. Bowie on SNL on live TV in my little Midwest home town, I thought....'WOW'. Everyone else wondered what just happened!
Heady days for Art, we will never see His like again.
I must say I'm impressed with his command of English, very fluent for a German.
I love his smile so much. ❤
His costume is kind if a punky classical opera of his own flavor. Like an exaggeration of the formal attire an opera singer would wear during his concert, but wildly caricatured. It's pretty cool when you don't overthink it.
So beautiful. So fascinating. Such a tremoundous talent. So very sad aids took his life. 🌹🌹
Klaus was the FIRST in everythingggg!!!
Thank u
He had beautiful eyes and his smile too.
Kind. Talented. Missed ❤
An icon, a genius
Hes so cool. So fascinating ❤❤
What an interesting, unique fellow. So sad he died young in 1983.
Pure extravaganza!
1:46 "Why this uh clownish mutant?"
What a jerk.
I'm currently looking for a Madness version of Ligne Rock. It's so rare and obscure though. You can barely find anything from it
What was the year WD40?
Unfortunately, he is still little known in Germany.
omg he hitting those NOTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what a precious legend
When they make a movie about Klaus.... Michael Emerson. That's who needs to play him. 😃
Fantastic😮😮😮
One most enchanting and ICONIC vocalist of Victorian opera ✨️ died of AIDS too young ❤
Nomi Style! Perfect!
Love him…..i understand Bowie more now….
Oh, wow. He had an insanely beautiful face.
Alan, thank you for sharing this! Do you casually know has Klaus ever been in Belgium? Or he just gave the interview somewhere and it was broadcasted in Belgium? Thank you. =)
Hey Alstromaria. That I don’t know but I’d guess that this was in Brussels as Gilles interviews most from there. Hard to tell.
@@AlansVideoCollection Alan, if you find something about Klaus Nomi like this interview we'll be incredibly happy to see it. 🖤
Хороший был Артист!!!!
The guy interviewing him never made or allowed him to relax and allowed us to see him the real him
His strangeness made David Bowie seem ordinary by comparison.
Dude was too cool
Dude was about to be a Mega star.
Can't tell me Lady Gaga never studied him.
Rest at ease Klaus you're just a simple Man. That did the best he can 😁
