      Even if they do indicate I still don't trust them , 95% of ppl not indicating or indicating incorectly . And as long smb don't indicating u know u have to observe him but the moment u starting to trust ppl they go where they do indicating u will end up in collision ...

      Zain K that's how a filter lane is meant to be used though. It's why you get traffic signs now saying "please use both lanes." Merging before the merging point is actually what causes traffic jams.

    For me tailgaters is a really bad one.
    When I was on holiday in the US, everyone leaves a pretty sensible gap. But here in the UK it's like everyone has some weird fetish for being as close to the car in front as possible.

    I am oddly annoyed by punters on motorwars who either think indicating automatically means you must stop to let them do whatever they want, or the people that indicate to move lane, and move lane in the exact same second. By the time you've noticed the blinking light, they are already halfway over. I always keep a big ass space in front of me on the motorway in case I end up parked inside someone's boot, haha.

    • @raph_csg
      @raph_csg 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scott Greenhill not like how you're taught for the driving test because that's just silly and time consuming. Basically, you want to get in front of the space to a point where you can see at least 1 line in your side mirrors then turn either way until you can see one line in each of your door mirrors.

  • @claveworks
    @claveworks 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Just like to add a note about braking distances - On wet roads you should allow double the braking distance compared to a dry road, 'Oh, piss on that, I have got ABS!' you might say, and then get slammed into by the guy behind who had NOT got ABS. So keep your speed reasonable and your gaps wide if it's pissing down.
    Next snow - You need to allow TEN times the stopping distance if the road is covered with snow. It is incredibly difficult to deal with at times, but try not to brake at all except very gently, accelerate minutely ie: tiny pressure on the pedal, and if your cornering goes wrong take your feet OFF THE PEDALS and steer, steer, steer...

    • @Dominate955
      @Dominate955 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. During the snow its good practice to say in a higher gear as possible to avoid using too many revs.

    I find drivers constantly (perhaps suddenly) changing speed to be more of a bad habit and danger than ones going consistently slower than the speed limit. At least in the latter case you can plan ahead to get round them (OK it can be annoying and can lead to impatience and possible accidents especially on single carriageways). In the former case you see a slower car ahead, pull out to overtake then suddenly they're doing 20mph above the speed limit, possibly be forced to pull back in, oh no, now it's 20mph below again. Irritating on a motorway/ dual carriageway, can be downright dangerous on a single carriageway.

    • @Paynos
      @Paynos  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely. I've found when you're trying to overtake someone on the motorway and they speed up and down constantly it's incredibly frustrating. Especially if there's a queue of people behind you trying to go faster too.

  • @ixeqilibrium

    My partner just got his licence in August. He's confident and all but the two things that bother me most are that he doesn't leave enough space behind vehicles on the motorway (and doesn't slow down if they start braking), and he has a habit of keeping too left in his lane that sometimes the line of the road is in the middle of the passenger side seat. He's so afraid of being too far right, but he doesn't see it.

    I got tailgated by a damn truck yesterday, I was going the limit, wasn't slowing down the traffic. The driver got real close and started honking. I don't know if there was something going on behind him that I couldn't see or if he was really angry that I wasn't driving faster. I was really kind of scared in that situation. I am a new driver and I have a lot of anxiety about causing accidents and a big truck distracting me on a high traffic road really was not helping anything. I dunno what he was trying to achive.

    Once i was on a two lane road which was merging into the right lane, was driving slowly and merging into the right lane and noticed the person in the right lane behind me was driving a bit too quick so i had to quickly move left and hit and kurb my wheel. after that i just tailgated him until he put his foot down (had a black box then). Seriously at the end of the day you dont want nothing happening to your car.

      I don't know if it's a bad habit but if I'm driving on a motorway (which I don't do regularly, Northern Ireland doesn't have many, also mostly 2 lane) and someone has completed an overtake but not move back into the left lane, while sitting below the speed limit, I sit behind them with my right indicator on and occasionally flash my headlights at them until they move over, I do this instead of undertaking them. I have in 1 past occasion tailgated in this situation because they were persistent to sit at 60 in the right lane after overtaking someone doing mid 50s and cutting me off to do so.

    Not really terrible ones imo but ones i've managed to pick up even before passing my test:
    Coasting in neutral up to junctions/lights
    Hooking steering wheel to steer round sharp bends
    palming steering wheel.
    luckily I seem to somehow lose the bad habits in lessons and on the test I failed, but when driving with a family member, they all crop up.

      thing is does putting the clutch down whilst approaching a junction / lights save fuel or does engine braking while approaching a set of lights then pressing in the clutch save fuel?

    • @markwright3161
      @markwright3161 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zain K I don't think either save more fuel than the other as in both the engine is idling and due to you not accelerating the fuel is cut off from the injectors and therefore not being burnt in either case. It's more to do with brake wear. Engine braking is much more effective at reducing the speed of the vehicle than coasting with the clutch pressed or in neutral. This means that your dependence on the brakes to bring the car to a halt is much less when engine braking than coasting, so your brakes should last longer.

    Where I live we have a big problem with people who don't understand the rules of the road, and they make up all sorts of fake rules that don't exist. A lot of people here don't understand how right of way works, and that makes something simple like a 4 way intersection really sketchy. Just today I had a guy in a box truck pulled over on the side of the road with his four-ways on and the back open naturally everyone was going around him when he randomly pulls out in front of me without indicating and continues to drive with the four-ways on and turns again onto a side street again without using his indicators.

    Really Annoys me when people drift lanes in city centres. This happened to me the other day. Some old guy was in the lane to my right going around a roundabout (3 lane roundabout), he drifted into my lane once but i was a little bit behind him so i just lightly braked. He then proceeded to do it again but when he was just in front of my nose. I had to slam on the brakes and naturally beeped my horn in frustration. I personally think that after you pass a certain age you should be made to take a check test every 10 years. It becomes unsafe when very old people who can't react as fast are driving dangerously on the roads too!

    60mph is way too fast for a single lane especially on a single carriageway. On coming vehicles both doing 60mph with 1 of them overtaking is is like one vehicle doing 120mph towards a brick wall They are not restricted for usage like on motorways.

    I obey speed limits, and I'm good enough to stay in the slow lane most of the time. But even when I'm in the slow lane, idiots tailgate me as if I'm camped out in the fast lane. They sometimes blast their horns to say "Come on!!! Move your ass!!!!" Also, I'm good about coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. There have been times when I came to a complete stop like I'm supposed to, the driver behind me sees that nothing is coming, I've had idiots blast their horns then too. Aggressive drivers, who attempt to bully me when I'm doing the right thing has been my biggest driving pet peeve for years!!!!! When a driver behaves like that towards me, I get just as offended as a black person gets if a white person calls him the N-word.
    When a driver tries to bully me, the phrase that goes through my mind is "TAKE HIS VEHICLE AWAY FROM HIM!!!!" I personally really would like to take his vehicle away from him!! Then I'd like to drain both the oil and the antifreeze, and put two quarts of sodium silicate in the engine crank case. Then, I want to get behind the wheel of his vehicle, start it up, and RED LINE IT!!!!! REVV IT ALL THE WAY UP TO 8,000 RPM. When the pistons expand, the engine will not only seize up, but the inertia at 8,000 will cause the engine to grenade itself. It will shatter the engine block. Then, put it on a flatbed, and transport it to the junkyard, and the engine having been destroyed will ensure that the forklift will take the vehicle off the flatbed, and put it in the "FLATTENING MACHINE!!!" Better known as the car crusher. Then I'd like to jerk the lever, that brings the crusher lid down, and reduces the vehicle to a pancake. That's my fantasy for getting back at aggressive drivers who try to bully me, and pressure me to speed or treat a stop sign like a yield sign.

      On a race track short shifting is a no no. On a road however short shifting is not a bad habit and prolonged over revving will wear the engine. Short shifting can also save fuel in the long run. Up steep hills however you shouldn't short shift.

    i tailgate knowing the risks but people who hog the fast lane even at the max speed limit should always go the slow lane if the tailgater wants to go fast and pay a ticket let him earn one

      338 1024 imo tailgaters are some of the worst people on the road. Be prepared to get brake checked if you tailgate me!

      Whats this fast lane and slow lane you speak of? Ive been driving 15 years, 1000 miles a week and I've never seen a slow or a fast lane! Its lane 1,2,3 (or more). The speed limit is the same for all 3 lanes. As soon as people realise this, people will start using the motorways properly. Don't be the problem.

    • @Dominate955
      @Dominate955 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hardly anyone uses the motorway properly. The driving test doesn't take you onto the motorway. You should always be in the left hand lane unless you are overtaking. Hogging the middle lane can be dangerous, especially if you are travelling slower than traffic in the left hand lane. You should also leave AT LEAST 2 seconds between you and the car in front and that's only in dry conditions. (4 seconds for wet and 10 seconds for treacherous conditions.) Most people it's like less than a 1 second gap. You need to think that if someone breaks suddenly in front, will you stop before you crash into the back of them?

    People who hog the middle lane of the motorway are the worst people in the world! If they insist in hogging it, I don’t mind if they’re driving 70mph+ but not when they’re driving 50mph. Move to the left where you belong and let me use the middle lane to overtake you!

    • @Dominate955
      @Dominate955 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even if they're doing 70+ they should be in the left hand lane if it's free. People mistake the left hand lane for being the "slow" lane and the right hand lane for being a "fast" lane. The highway code says something like you must stay in the left hand lane unless overtaking other vehicles and you must not pass on the left. Personally, I think there shouldn't be a speed limit on the motorway. I mean, if its empty then why can't you do 100 mph? Cars have gotten much safer over recent years with stopping distances being much shorter than the ones mentioned in the highway code.

    I disagree I do 55 60 on motaway it allows me more thinking time when it say at night or low traffic I do may 70+. The most dangerous drivers are people who do 70+ regardless of weather or traffic conditions plus I save fuel.

      Why do you British people still cling to MPH. I cannot relate. I thought you lot adopted KM/H.

    • @__-fm5qv
      @__-fm5qv 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because we're stuck in our ways xD. And everyone here knows how fast 30 or 40 mph is visually. So to change the system would hard for a lot of people. In europe I believe they started with km/h? So they never had to change it either. And besides in the uk to use both imperial and metric units. Like saying "im 6ft tall" but then say "This is x cm long", in the same breath, is quite normal.

    • @jamesfrench7299
      @jamesfrench7299 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Australia went full metric in 1975. It seems strange ( it's the UK after all) you didn't do it to be in standard with the EU. Instead, tout seem to have had this solidarity with the U.S, even though Australia managed to convert. You are very unlike the U.S in many other ways but stick steadfastly to this. Mmmkay!

    • @__-fm5qv
      @__-fm5qv 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      James French I think it's also part of "British identity" we drive on the "proper" side of the road and use the "proper" units. Km/h and driving on the right hand side if the road is just the exact opposite of what we do. And we are proud (maybe wrongly) to be different. And it'll be a cold day in hell before British people give up something we see as very British xD. It's got nothing to do with Americans :)
      And besides a in the UK we never really consider ourselves European. Even a "remainer" like myself. I suppose we like the idea of being our own thing.
