It’s Frank that wanted the marriage to work. She was ready to leave and not be with him. It was Frank that persuaded her to stay with the help of Mrs Graham. She made a promise to Jamie and she had Brianna to think about.. Being a pregnant woman in 1948 with no money and no means to support herself. Women were expected to be housewives after the war. Lets not pretend Frank didn’t know that Claire had very little options. Now had she not been pregnant no doubt she would have left Frank. It was Frank that wanted to take her back. That wanted to make it work. For Brianna’s sake she tried for the first 3 years after Brianna’s birth.. But it didn’t work. She just didn’t love him. The more independent Claire got the more Frank feared her leaving him.. It was Claire that asked for the divorce and later found out that Frank planned to take Brianna from her. If anyone had grounds for divorce it was Claire. Franks many affairs with students. Something she was quick to remind him of.. They stayed together for the sake of both of their careers. It was mutually beneficial for them both at that time.
I know it's a 'sign of the timrs' as it were but it's so cruel how it's was just presumed Claire was the one responsible for not being able to have a baby meanwhile it was Frank's swimmers were what was the issue.
regardless of the reality of the scene and the character's background, I find this scene to be absolutely beautiful and that's thanks to their acting. they are absolutely amazing at what they do.
Claire couldn't bring herself up to look at him as her husband Frank. His face haunted her with the nightmare of Black Jack Randall and what he did to her husband Jamie. Really feel bad for Frank though 💔
I feel for Frank! He deserved to be happy, I don't know why he chose to stay with Claire even after she wanted to divorce. I don't blame her at all, she moved on with her life because she didn't know if she's going to return or not. But I think their relationship was doomed from the start. When we first met them, Claire was away during the war attending to wounded soldiers, she endured a lot and as it was shown later she suffered from PTSD. She and Frank were separated for some time and it's obvious that the war changed them both, they may have loved each other but you can see that the "spark" wasn't there.
I feel sorry for Feank, he did nothing wrong up to this point and just suffered, missed and feared for Claire. But here he should have understand that she did not love him like before anymore, and that they could not just forget that these 2 years happened. He should have let both of them move on. Even though it was of course kind of chivalrous to not let a pregnant woman be all by herself, she clearly did not want to be in a fake marriage with him. He could have just supported he with money if that was so important to him.
@@luciadilazzaro2285 Well, but she wasn't his, and Brianna was also robbed of a father that loved her !!!, i'm not saying that Frank didn't loved her, but, she had a right to know who Jamie was !

I love stories that overturn tropes. It would be so easy to have Frank be a bad man, so we could all just be relieved that she found Jamie, and then heartbroken for her when she goes back to the awful Frank. But instead, Frank is a decent guy. Maybe not as "hot" as Jamie, but a decent person doing his best to be reasonable, and who really does love her and want to be with her. It adds a level of complexity to the story that I'm really grateful to see!
I've become an earnest fan of *Outlander* fairly recently and got smitten by all these marvelous actors - Caitriona, Sam, Tobias, and many more - and their magical presentation onscreen. I had actually bought the first book of the series years ago but didn't even open the book(due to my hoarding habit of good books🧐). These days on my commute, I'm happily devouring the stories, haha. Since English is not my first language, being Korean and because of all those wee bonny Scottish Gaelic, it is not a fast page-turner but still very much enticing! :) With all the gorgeous series written by Diana Gabaldon, I think I can happily go through Droughtlander, haha.
Tobias Menzies is so great in Outlander, both as Frank and Black Jack! I believed him everything he served there! Amazing. I like Frank's character so much, and feel so sorry for him. :(
I genuinely think that, with more effort from Claire's side, she and Frank could have found their way back to happiness. But it probably would have involved a lot of heart-to-heart moments, and mutual growth, that I'm not sure they (or other 1940s couples) would have been able to do. Frank is not Black Jack Randall. And he was a good father to Brianna - excellent, even.
When there is no love left in relationship ... No point to sticking & make both life's worse .. better to leave .. once it's gone it won't return no matter how u try ..
I really love his character in the show and I feel so sorry for him. But I don't like the book-Frank, cuz he was just ... argh. In _my_ opinion Outlander is the only book I've ever read, whose film adaption is better.
@@moonlightpaw5868 yes. However Some folk would have just seen him as a nice person and someone that will look after you. Love and in love with some is a massive difference. And you can clearly tell she wasn't in love
In my opinion at the beginning I felt hurt for Frank even though it wasn't necessarily Claire's fault it's not like she didn't try to get back to him at first but you can't control who fall in love with. And then Frank knowing Jamie was alive and that Claire was going back to him and he said nth just irritates me. If you look closely Frank was very revengeful when he asked for a divorce he made it a point of saying how much Bree reminded Claire of Jamie implying that taking her away would be taking everything she held dear away and leaving her alone kinda like how she left him. Also him not wanting Bree to ever know of Jamie's existence was incredibly vindictive on his part and Jamie to this day has no problem with Claire wearing Franks ring has never expressed n issue with it or even Claire telling him about Frank. Frank however goes out of his way to say he doesn't want her to ever mention him and that first night wanted her to take off his ring which shows the major difference between Frank and Jamie. There's also him being so extremely close to Bree if you look closely on that it was almost like he wanted her to love him more so he could always have her on his side kinda like making Claire have to watch that and see that bond and I thought of this too when he told Brianna about the divorce the second he n Claire were done talking instead of waiting for them to tell her together like most people do
Well u can't blame a man for hating his wife's lover 💀 y"all too much on ur feels for Jamie to put yrseleves in Frank's shoes. Frank was the first husband Jamie was the lover. Jamie has 0 rights to be jealous since he "stole" her. Frank has every right to be jealous & vindictive
I believe the reason things would never go back for Claire and Frank, is the trauma past Randall left in her. The trauma I suspect makes it difficult for her. Worse in this scene he kinda tapped into that energy too, he’s definitely a Randall descendant
Frank didn't deserve this. Wasn't Claire's fault...but he was a victime... Accept her back was his great mistake and the cause of his misery... What man would accept his wife back in those conditions?!
I disagree it was not her fault, he had a chance to go back to her time, and she consciously decided to stay with jamie, who she had known for only six months. I don't care how in love she was, she was aware that she had vanished from her own time and left people there wondering what happened to them, thinking her kidnapped or dead and suffering in the not knowing because a corpse would not be found for her loved ones to mourn her and move on. She was aware of this, and decided to stay and play happy house with jamie. And when she comes back she goes and tell that person that has been going mad with worry and grief over her missing for 3 years and tell him she didn't even want to come back because she was happy with the other guy. So no, she is not free of blame, it's not her fault to not live frank anymore, sure, but his suffering because he didn't know what happened to her is. Being in love is not enough to justify what she did or the fact that she refuses to be empathic about what frank suffered and act like the only victim in the situation. Imagine someone you care a lot about, doesn't even have to be romantically, just your best friend or sibling for example, disappears one day. No one knows what happened to them, you spend years between hope of finding them and fear of the worst scenerios of what could have happened to them. And then one day they show up and they tell you they didn't want to come back, they have the means to, but they choose to stay wherr they were and let you suffer over what could have happened to them because they were having a happy time with some hottie they found. If your happiness must come at the expense of letting a loved one who didn't do anything bad to you suffer and live in desperation wondering what could have happened to you, then you are being very egoistical. Something like that can destroy a person's life, when a corpse is not found, the hope that you might still be alive doesn't let your loved ones move on, they get stuck in that state, some people start drinking, suffer depressions, etc, and their whole life gets destroyed by that desperation combined with hope.
@@nessyness5447 I totaly agree with you.. You're absolutely right, she never thougt how much Frank suffered with het desappearance, how desperate he was, how much he loved her, to point of accepting her back in those conditions.. (2:17) Frank: "I love you unconditionally." There is one condition of love immediately apparent: being loved back in return. Love is a relationship between two people; it does not exist in isolation.

Frank 💔 what a miserable end he had. He deserved much better. I would have been content if he was shown to have moved on happily to a new wife he loved just as much if not more than Claire. Unfortunately he lost at every turn and that makes me not root for Jaime or/and Claire.
Claire here acts cruelly. Loving someone else shouldn't make you completely indifferent to the feeling of a person you cared about. It's like she punishing him for being back there. And it's not his fault

She was paralised with heartbreak and grief... and traumatised by Black Jack who looked just like Frank
Whoa! This scene was moving, he' Tobias deserves an award for this, so much heartstrings are pulling.
Frank deserved to have a loving wife.
He had that opportunity when Claire asked him about the divorce
@@tachmin4ever she also had a choice to walk away yet she stayed
He deserves it😭 fell inlove with hun from the very first episode.
Terrific scene, great acting by Tobias.
Imagine all the scenes flashing her her head when Frank gets up her face of his ancestor and all the things that happened to her yet he has noooo idea
I wish there was a book where he travelled back in time *with* Claire. That would be fun shenanigan's.
But Frank wanted kids and Brianna was what he always dreamed of.
I sympathize with him deeply in the series but the books says otherwise😩
@@luciadilazzaro2285 Well, but she wasn't his, and Brianna was also robbed of a father that loved her !!!, i'm not saying that Frank didn't loved her, but, she had a right to know who Jamie was !
@@giuliapicchiotti I agree that they should have told her about her father. Jamie would have loved on his baby girl so much. He was so full of pride being able to help raise Will for a time. I'm still sad he didn't get to raise Bree.
He should have walked away in that exact moment, him staying, ruined his life, her life and Brianna's (kind of) !!
Clare should have walked away but she stayed and USED Frank and then ruin his life!
@chiasanzes9770 Ruined his life twice more like. First, unintentionally, but then again by coming back.
Someone give this man an Oscar
I love stories that overturn tropes. It would be so easy to have Frank be a bad man, so we could all just be relieved that she found Jamie, and then heartbroken for her when she goes back to the awful Frank. But instead, Frank is a decent guy. Maybe not as "hot" as Jamie, but a decent person doing his best to be reasonable, and who really does love her and want to be with her. It adds a level of complexity to the story that I'm really grateful to see!
"Frank" ist extragenial in diesem Moment seiner Rolle!Großartig!
I've become an earnest fan of *Outlander* fairly recently and got smitten by all these marvelous actors - Caitriona, Sam, Tobias, and many more -
and their magical presentation onscreen. I had actually bought the first book of the series years ago but didn't even open the book(due to my hoarding habit of good books🧐).
These days on my commute, I'm happily devouring the stories, haha. Since English is not my first language, being Korean and because of all those wee bonny Scottish Gaelic,
it is not a fast page-turner but still very much enticing! :)
With all the gorgeous series written by Diana Gabaldon, I think I can happily go through Droughtlander, haha.
This man is a great actor. How I felt for his character in this scene.
Tobias is a great actor 👌
he's an amazing actor
Tobias Menzies is so great in Outlander, both as Frank and Black Jack! I believed him everything he served there! Amazing.
I like Frank's character so much, and feel so sorry for him. :(
I genuinely think that, with more effort from Claire's side, she and Frank could have found their way back to happiness. But it probably would have involved a lot of heart-to-heart moments, and mutual growth, that I'm not sure they (or other 1940s couples) would have been able to do.
Frank is not Black Jack Randall. And he was a good father to Brianna - excellent, even.
Tobias Menzies is brilliant !👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
When there is no love left in relationship ... No point to sticking & make both life's worse .. better to leave .. once it's gone it won't return no matter how u try ..
I really love his character in the show and I feel so sorry for him. But I don't like the book-Frank, cuz he was just ... argh. In _my_ opinion Outlander is the only book I've ever read, whose film adaption is better.
She’s a bit unsympathetic to Frank’s feelings here.
True, but you can't force yourself to love ir care for someone
Yes :( I think she's heartbroken and when she sees his face she think of Jack Randall instead of just Frank her loving husband.
@@stillirise9705 He was her first husband. He wasn’t just nobody.
@@moonlightpaw5868 yes. However Some folk would have just seen him as a nice person and someone that will look after you. Love and in love with some is a massive difference. And you can clearly tell she wasn't in love
I don't know is there any word to describe the way of there acting skills
There's also him being so extremely close to Bree if you look closely on that it was almost like he wanted her to love him more so he could always have her on his side kinda like making Claire have to watch that and see that bond and I thought of this too when he told Brianna about the divorce the second he n Claire were done talking instead of waiting for them to tell her together like most people do
just Machiavellian, I hated Frank ever since he manipulated Brianna and turned her against Claire to pursue his revenge
Franck est le descendant du frère de jack randall
@@nadinecharles6714 That he is indeed
OUTSTANDING ACTING!!!
Well, Claire thought that she would be in that time, never be home again. So she would not have to love only one man forever and eternity.
I feel so bad for both of them.
I think I kinda hated Claire in this season. Frank was a kind man. My heart broke a little.
She was allways cold with him...
He was a real victime of all that.
I understand she was in love ...but Frank deserved better...
@@Paulasantos.i wonder if she would have done the same if her parents or uncle were alive. I mean she was on a vacation, walked out one morning and never came back, her car found abandoned in the middle of a road and all her things still in their hotel room. Anyone would assume the worst.
@@nessyness5447 I believe she would...
She was in love, was the love of her life, a real love...she only left Jamie because she was pregnant and after Colluden, they could be both killed, otherwise she would never return to twenty century.
@@Paulasantos. oh of course she would have, it was mostly retorical. She didn't even gave too much thought to leave her college age daughter completely alone to go back to jamie. But that one scene when she could have gone back after the first 6 months and here, these scenes are what made me dislike claire. Someone who would let their family or friends suffer wondering if they are being held captive and tortured somewhere for years because they have the hots for a guy they have known for 6 months is not someone i can respect.
Poor Poor Frank.I feel so sorry for him♥
Such a complex grey character. That's not a good life to live for anyone... To not be loved by your wife even after waiting for her for 3 years. Trapped in a loveless marriage...
Frank already knows that he’s sterile
Tobias is just incredibly talented. To this day I cannot think of a villain that makes me more nauseous than Black Jack Randall. I thought I wouldn’t be able to feel compassion for Frank seeing Black Jacks face but Tobias literally transforms into another person and one can’t help but feel sad for Frank.
Black jack Randall appeared for a moment with claire...Diana Gabaldon needs recognition for this written peice.
And for the producers/ director to get it right...This would have been a true story during and after Colonisation..
(2:17) Frank: "I love you unconditionally."
There is one condition of love immediately apparent: being loved back in return.
Love is a relationship between two people; it does not exist in isolation.
It ends with us perfect cast !!! 😢
the temper of Frank Randal matched Dr. Ryle Kincaid. And Jamie as Atlas Corrigan always her true love.
Frank 💔 what a miserable end he had. He deserved much better. I would have been content if he was shown to have moved on happily to a new wife he loved just as much if not more than Claire. Unfortunately he lost at every turn and that makes me not root for Jaime or/and Claire.
Is it just me, or is everyone shockingly mature about their relationships in this show (except for Laoghaire)
Claire here acts cruelly. Loving someone else shouldn't make you completely indifferent to the feeling of a person you cared about.
It's like she punishing him for being back there. And it's not his fault
Poor embryo Brianna, she went through a lot also :'(
Senti pena do Frank amava muito a claire...
Hum .., magnifique jeu d’acteur
this is every man who been betrayed a woman he loves. Moral is: trust no woman, and get a prenup. Or at least marry a woman who knows the meaning of honour and respect.
Frank already knows that he can’t have kids
I felt so sorry for Frank here...
this like the cliffhanger to a bad soap
Frank deserved so much better
Не понимаю, почему Клэр так ненавидит Френка. Он же потомок не Джека Рендола, а его брата викария, доброго и порядочного человека
Tobias Menzies is superb
Don't be like Frank. Certainly not if your wife says she loved a man deeply. That's just a huge let down.
Frank deserved better.
Claire deserved anything that came her way

What an easy way to say 2 years I love another man.
Honestly how could she even stand him knowing that he look exactly like randall. It’s disgusting.
Frank amava molto Claire ma si e' comportato molto male con almeno le a fatto credere cosi' ❤️
Oh god. Was TB's performance, despite the story, wonderful portrayals by the 2 leads, the pathos and drama the main reason why seasons 1 and 2 were so wonderful and the rest such an anticlimax to the point of boring! It should have ended at Culloden and left us all with broken rather than disappointed hearts.
TM's not TB
He shouldn't have married her and let her live in disgrace with a child.
Exactly!! Finally, someone said the right thing, everyone says poor Frank, (regardless of Tobias' unique acting, which unfortunately was less seen in this series), but Frank's character was an idiot. The writers should not have shown him so weak and awkward
This hurts me omg 😃
Wtf is David Walliams doing there?
