Cody Rhodes is really a very inspirational person and has a motivational story for anyone who feels discounted, overlooked, and decides to take their own fate in their own hands
I think Cody's story also shows that you need powerful allies. In his case, the fans. It's similar to Daniel Bryan. It doesn't matter how much they've "worked for it, earned it or deserve it," the people in power still have the ability to deny you simply because they want to. Without the outcry of the fans, Cody (and Daniel) would have been paved over or worse, "made an example of." It makes me think of the way WWE treated Zach Ryder in spite of how popular he was. "We didn't choose you. How dare you make yourself popular without us? We are going to make an example of you so that other people don't get the same idea." The Rock would have usurped Cody in spite of Cody taking his fate into his own hands were it not for the fans supporting Cody the way they did, and someone like Vince no longer being in place to say "F the fans! We're doing what I want."
@@tdylan I also think that Cody had an ally in Triple H. It is clearly evident that they respect him greatly, and not just because of his father and older half brother, but because of the guts that it took to create AEW and help launch it. PLUS, they knew that talent would be watching Cody closely when he returned. Will they punish him? Will they humiliate him? Unfortunately, there is a long history of the WWF/E stealing talent from other companies in the 80s and 90s and mistreating them entirely, just to destroy them. I feel like Triple H, especially, wanted to right that wrong...especially in light of the criticisms involving both Daniel Bryan and for that matter CM Punk. I'm not blind to Triple H's golden shovel days, but I think he's trying to do better now, especially since his Legacy (no pun intended) is secure.
@@tdylan Oh, and forgot to say, I think you are 100% right. Especially when the attempt was made to usurp his title shot for the Rock. That is a reminder that the old days aren't exactly over, but they spun that into gold as it fully endeared Cody to the fans even further, and may have won over the "internet" audience that CM Punk referenced in his Ariel interview.

Not oli making me cry 😭😭😭. Man this was such an awesome video. Cody has been one of my favs since his un-dashing gimmick and this video sent me on a rollercoaster of emotions and memories. Awesome piece Oli. Amazing work.
Man, Cody was already my favorite modern wrestler, and I already cried when he won the belt, but this just made me love him and cry even more. Great video WrestleTalk crew
Those "fans" are but a loud minority who argue in bad faith. They're calling his title reign boring when he's literally only been on three episodes of TV as champ. I'll take the thousands and thousands cheering him in the arenas all over the world over the salty Twitter accounts with Roman Reigns pfp's.
Nah he’s as boring as eating a saltine while watching paint dry and taking periodic breaks to go sit down and watch tv static. Been saying it for nearly 6 years and it’s just a true now as it was then the fact that he got to the position he is in right now is absolutely head scratching and just goes to serve as a dictionary example of Neapo baby
Kudos wrestle talk team. Following you since 2017. You have literally made me laugh with cm punk to aew confirmed and made me cry with this rhodes story. Support wrestle talk for life!❤
Lmao Luke chiming in the first 20 seconds with "come on, finish the story already" was too perfect for this episode Looking forward to watching it and adding my own takes here especially after the wonderful Bloodline analysis you guys did before WrestleMania After watching this, everything was so compelling i dont have much else to say other than it was shocking learning about Cody almost slipping into alcoholism after Dusty's passing. I knew he enjoyed drinks but didnt realize he was doing Hangman's story irl
Cody Rhodes story resonates so much with me and I know, with so many others. I have such a close relationship with my father and cherish when I make him proud. I love the emotion of Cody and how he wanted to win the title not only for him but for his father. It brings a joy to me that he still fought for that dream even when dusty was gone. I had a conversation with my father a few months ago about him wanting to move back to our home country of New Zealand even though the love and friendship we have is extensive. This has laid heavy upon me as if I am about to lose him but Cody gives me so much strength and hope.
Another great informative video. I really really love this series. Besides the Von Erich’s and the Guerrero’s, is there any other wrestling family that yall could make a video for? Like is there a well known wrestling family of the UK?
Guys, these videos are absolutely stellar. Like other Wrestltalk supporters, I miss the Smackdown reviews. But these documentaries are so well done that they more then make up for it. The level of detail, the way you weave the narrative, mixed with your cheeky charm, they are consistently exceptional. Thanks for all the effort.
"There was a time I used to look into my father's eyes. In a happy home, I was a king, I had a golden throne. Those days are gone. Now they're memories on the wall. I hear the songs from the places where I was born. Up on a hill across the blue lake, That's where I had my first heartbreak. I still remember how it all changed. My father said: 'Don't you worry, don't you worry, child See, Heaven's got a plan for you.'" A rather fitting song for Cody in my opinion.
These documentary style videos have been amazing. Been watching the channel since 2017, and they are my favorite videos you have put out. Keep them coming, please. 😊
These deep dives are some of the most incredible wrestling content on the internet. When the next episodes get announced I'm looking forward to those more than anything else.
This series continues to be one of the best things that WrestleTalk has come up with. Please continue delivering this content. I look forward to the next one!
Watching Cody do what his brother and father never did was so emotional and you can tell how much it meant and continues to mean to him. He’s not just a good character but he’s a hell of a wrestler and never has a boring match
Ill keep requesting til it happens but can we get one of these for the Bullet Club or AJ Styles whole career with a nice emphasis on Bullet Club/ New Japan run.
wow... this was so freakin good... i havent watched anything from WWE since the Bray DQ match in that red chamber against Seth... until both WM this year... and as much as I still love AEW despite everything, it was absolutely amazing :)
as someone who briefly followed wrestling when i was 12 (around the start of golddust-stardust era) and only knowing cody from that and some weird face masks things it was wild to suddenly see an ig post with him as wwe champ thanks for the explanation guys!😂
I was a huge wrestling fan in the 80's, mainly NWA/WCW, then I lost interest when I got to high school. And then I got into it again during the early/mid 90's in the whole Monday Night Wars era. Then I lost interest again after the downfall of WCW and ECW. And now I'm getting back into wrestling again. Wrestling is finally cool again.
I honestly think Cody booking himself out of the AEW World title picture was actually one of his better designs just for him alone. If he booked himself to not just win the title there but be able to compete and become a multiple time world champion he might still be in AEW today or might have muddying up the main event scene over there. After all his goal was always the WWE title not the newly created AEW World title which didn’t have the prestige or history Edit: I also love Dusty for not turning into Fritz Avon Erich by trying to force his sons to complete the thing he never did. Fritz ended up cause so much trauma for his family while Dusty although messing up early he made up with Dustin and raised Cody right
My outrage when WrestleMania 39 concluded was extremely evident for a while. A year felt like a long time back then for Cody to finally get the finish to his story but with Vince slowly losing his grasp on creative control I did have much more hope. The amount of emotions I had felt for Cody’s buildup to win the WWE Title were more than I could ever feel for any 5 star match. To me it was a 5 star program, 5 star cinema and a 5 star story.
At Wrestlemania 32's Axxess event, Cody cut a promo and was signing autographs as Cody Rhodes, which was weird because he was still using the Stardust gimmick on TV at this time. In the promo he said that if WWE did not let him wrestle the Intercontinental Championship ladder match as Cody Rhodes, then he would quit after Wrestlemania. Everyone in attendance thought he was just playing to the crowd, but he most certainly did end up quitting. This leads me to believe that he largely made up his mind about leaving the company before Wrestlemania 32. In hindsight, I really wish I recorded that promo.
Dusty Rhodes, Dustin Rhodes, Cody Rhodes, and Lana Rhoades. What an incredible family.
Mount Rushmore 💀💀😂
Lana Rhoades? 🤔
Lana and Paige would make a great tag team.
