  • The Unified Command for the Key Bridge Response continues its preparations to remove the M/V Dali from the Fort McHenry Federal Channel in Baltimore, Maryland, May 15, 2024. The Unified Command’s operational priorities are ensuring the safety of the public and first responders, safely restoring the marine transportation system and commerce, protecting the environment, and supporting the investigation

Even the title is wrong. The bridge didn't explode! It collapsed after the MV Dali impacted one of the primary piers. There was no explosion until the shaped charges were used to cut up the larger bridge sections.

WTF??? At 1:05, you state in the scrolling text that an investigation will begin to determine the cause of the "explosion" and the accident. First of all, the investigation *started* the day of the disaster and the preliminary investigative report was released a couple days ago. 2nd, there was no "explosion". There was a failure of the generator engines and circuit breakers were tripped resulting in loss of control over the ship. They ruled out bad or contaminated diesel fuel but only that. In addition, they released a complete timeline of the actions of the senior pilot, junior pilot and the crew.

I've heard that there were 4 power failures, 2 in port and 2 under way. This is the first I've heard of an explosion other than the controlled detonation to remove the span that fell on the bow of the ship. I think I want some of whatever you're smoking.

From the report, the issues in port were mechanical (generator servicing), whereas those under way were electrical (transformer circuit breaker trip, and later transformer and generator trip).

I would very respectfully ask if the proper phrasing of the English Language could be used here ? specifically where the name of the vessel is used. The vessel's correct name is the "Dali" that's all. Referring to the "Dali Ship" is incorrect and should not be used. Thank You.

There were not "Explosions" The Main propulsion Diesel is direct reversing without any kind of reversing gear. To back up the Main Engine must be stopped then the engine is started in reverse direction. The problems were the switching gear and electrical buss transfer bar. I'm a former AE Engineer, USMM.

@js-wq6zy This is a very difficult job, for many reasons. Just the fact that this is a marine operation, increases the hazards and difficulty. Are you noticing all the heavy, bent or mangled pieces of steel? Also a huge amount of the wreckage is underwater. Some of the equipment being deployed is not ideal for this job ( that’s my opinion). The Chesapeake 1000 has done an excellent job ( before it was attached to the huge grapple). The problem is it can’t revolve ( slewing ability). So every pick it makes requires repositioning, in order to offload onto a barge. This kind of operation would go along much faster in a 3rd world country. But guess what? A whole bunch of workers would be injured or killed for the sake of speed. We don’t work that way anymore in the USA. Workers expect to go home to their families at the end of the day. Bottom Line is: This Is NOT the type of job where the emphasis should be speed.
