The moment that you thrown your marker but keep talking and keeping calm shows your critical thinking skills !
Thank you for your information 🙏

She's even better. She can drop the entire lasagna tray and keep talking and explaining without skipping a beat.
      She's incredible!

This is a really helpful breakdown of something I've always wanted to understand better. I remember trying to read Kuhn as a 6th grader, when I wanted to be a scientist and found his book on my older sister's bookshelf.

I am thinking about the paradigm shift in the U.S.A. on November 6, 2024. In this excellent video, especially at minute 9:20, the pattern changes between leaders and thought fields apply to more than the scientific arena. I also enjoyed your quick recovery of the dropped Sharpie. Sometimes, things happen. Good job, Ashley!

It's so crazy that this is well documented in fields like system theory yet it doesn't help prevent the kind of walled garden of science and institutional power from happening.

One thing you didn't mention is the role of anomaly in bringing forth the "heretic." Chaos begins to happen when an anomaly appears in the scientific data that the old paradigm cannot address. The leaders of the old paradigm attempt to address the novel data using old paradigm knowledge and rules in ever more complicated ways, typically unsuccessfully. The heretic is often someone very young in the field, or old and established enough in old field that he doesn't care what anyone thinks, who comes up with a unique method of addressing the anomaly that operates outside the knowledge and rules of the old paradigm. The leaders of the old paradigm and their followers find this threatening and attempt to shut down the heretic. But because the new solution is generally much more simple and beautiful than the solutions provided by the old paradigm, the heretic begins to attract followers. Chaos results when followers of the old paradigm fight with the heretics to hold onto their old power structure. The chaos we are seeing in the world today represent a massive paradigm shift in virtually all areas of human society, as the old models in economics, medicine, education, politics, technology, communications, energy, religion, international relations, etc. are breaking down. They are not answering the needs of the mass of the human population. We are literally seeing the death throes of a massive old paradigm. The resistance to change in the control structure of society by the long time controllers is literally threatening humanities existence. The controllers of the old paradigm are literally saying, if we can't continue to be in control, we will destroy everything.

Well said. You can add Physics and Cosmology to the list and evidently Chickentown CIG Theory as the Paradigm Shifting beauty, naturalness and simplicity.

I enjoyed your video. The network representation might give the wrong idea about Kuhn's thought. The structure is really a process for Kuhn. It's almost as if the nodes are strange attractors, as in physics, and the nodes maybe aren't really there but we imagine that they are. Each vertex would be better represented dynamically as a convection current. The vortices of human activities following patterns, almost like little convection currents around nodes, representing ideas, almost completely reorganize in a revolution.

I have one question: when is a fresh idea such as a paradigm shift truly considered to be a part of the body of knowledge, when the fresh idea is accepted by the custodians governing that area of knowledge or the knowledge applied to the real world setting?
Also, the video was fascinating. Your approach simplified the concept and allowed it to fit into small brains like mine.

Polanyi's Personal Knowledge is great too. He was doing research in chemistry and went into philosophy because the current scientific philosophy couldn't take account of how research happened.

Seems to be there is such as thing as paradigms outside of science. Instead of being based on "foundational knowledge," these paradigms are based on non-explicit assumptions.
