  • Dr. Jason Fung completed medical school and internal medicine at the University of Toronto before finishing his nephrology fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles at the Cedars-Sinai hospital.
    He now has a practice in Ontario, Canada where he uses his Intensive Dietary Management program to help all sorts of patients, but especially those suffering from the two big epidemics of modern times: obesity and type 2 diabetes.
    Dr. Fung uses innovative solutions to these problems, realising that conventional treatments are not that effective in helping people.

      not actually fully correct = 1. if a person is eating a low fat diet - then they will be eating processed carb foods with added sugar. Now the biggest problem then is the cycle of addiction - leptin suppressed, grehlin escalates, nucleus accumbens is lit up, awaiting a reward, while initiating thought cycles to find foods to meet this need. Versus - no body every get to know this if they dont think low carb. Because we arent encouraged to. OF course the outcome is 'give in' because confidence crumbles as the person think their will power has crashed, and the self esteem dissolves. Changing the behaviour becomes at first a problem with addiction, and then changing metabolism. SO self discipline is not really the problem = because with correct counselling and proper support in correcting behaviour in relation to = behaviour modification, classical and operant conditioning, and with a valuable goal personalised to that person will maximise all hope - which of course is not something with zero confidence has. Vicious cycle. self discipline is merely a part of the problem

    • @sonja4164
      @sonja4164 6 ปีที่แล้ว +91

      Greg Ingram addiction to food like substances is the biggest part of the problem imo.
      Even eating high carb low fat, if the food is *real* and not processed crap, then those cycles of addiction/withdrawal don't happen. When people think they're eating "high carb", they're actually eating processed fat with processed carbs (i.e. doughnuts, cookies, chips, pizza, burgers etc). Those foods are *not* high carb.
      Low fat or high fat, real food is what people need. We don't hear about people binging on real food, it's on the crap.

      I have a theory on why some try to discourage people from utilizing the powerful health inducing tool of fasting. Have you heard about those parasites that infect ants. they cause or control the brain function or nervous system of the ant causing it to do something against its natural will. It causes the ant to climb up to the top of the canopy of of trees in the amazon, to where it can then sprout and spread in the wind to other locations in the amazon. The side effect is it kills its ant host when it is no longer needed to do this. It fed off the host and used the ant host like riding a horse to get it where it wanted to go and then killed it and ate some of the hose while it then sailed off into the wind for further travel to find more hosts and further reproduce. I have read many reports of people seeing the dead remains of long stringy works coming out with stools after abotu 2 or 3 days of fasting. It is like they are dieing off. Perhasp they are attaching to the intestinal wall like barnacles on the hull of a ship? and fasting is taking away their food source? and perhaps, some of the persons are so downplaying of the benefits of fasting are in some way being controlled by parasites in their intestinal tract, causing their host to attack the message of the benefits of fasting they are experiencing, because if others receive this message it could eradicate these parasites from continuing to live in the hosts of humans?

      @ThePallidor 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Coconut water is food. It engages all the digestive and ancillary organs in the intensive process known as digestion. The point of fasting is to relieve the body of that burden, while it is fed by body fat, so that it can work the miracles it is capable of when left alone.

      Very true! I've just started doing intermittent fasting and it's so much less difficult than doing any type of restrictive diet. I've never had the will power to eat fewer calories or not eating all the foods I like, but simply waiting a few hours before starting to eat is so much more doable. Yes, I'm still thinking about food (probably because I've just started) but it's not an omnipresent thought and it's not terrible and unmanageable. Love it!

    • @sitibear
      @sitibear 5 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      Exactly! Once you start eating it stimulates appetite. Intermittent fasting helps you to have more control. You can drink water, green tea, etc while you wait to have your first meal of the day.

My parents never pushed food on me and only fed me when I was hungry. We also never had scheduled meals, which seems like it would be wrong, but it was great you learn to listen to your body. Anyways, I am now 30 and don’t look a day over 20, no joke people are always asking what I am doing and I always fasting! I see my friends the same age who have gained weight; their skin looks like they are 40 yrs old. I still have the same body I did in high school. I do work out but not regularly maybe 1-2 times a week sometimes 3-4 times I run a mile and do the leg press machine for 15 mins, or I walk my dogs 5 times a week and that’s it. I eat once sometimes twice a day. On occasion, I will do a 24 - 30 hr fast. Anyway, it’s the best thing you can for yourself; it’s a lifestyle, not a diet or anything like that. Remember, if you lived in the wild, you would not be eating every day your body is made to endure stress. I hope this helps.

      @@Bokgat Search Dr Eric Berg on youtube. He has tons of videos about fasting, low carb and keto.
      I myself are doing intermitten fasting.
      16/8, 8 hour eatingwindow 11am to 7pm, then fast for 16 hours.
      after 4 months iv lost 15 kilos, and im gonna lose 15 more, then i will be slim/normal weight.
      I eat low carb, and i dont have a problem with hunger. Thats one of the benefits of low carb.
      And still, i cheat a little during weekends. I eat a little chips (100-200 grams)and chocolate (100 grams), and sugarfree coca cola..
      You can actually drink what you want, when you want, as long as it dont contain cal/carb, or triggers your sweet cravings.

      @@Bokgat It's really not that complicated. Just reduce your eating windows, cut out heavily processed low quality foods, drink lots of water, exercise if possible and do a 24-48h fast every once in a while. I lost 40 lbs in 2 months doing long water fasts (2 × 20 days) although I wouldn't recommend this to anyone unless you know you can handle it (diabetics, elderly, those with gout...etc., shouldn't water fast without medical supervision/advice).

      same have never liked breakfast. I ate it when I was a very younger child. not sure exactly when I stopped but probs when I was around 11 and was no longer told by my mum that I had to eat it. Breakfast has made me feel sick for as long as I can remember. it also makes me get hungrier much faster after eating it, and often makes me slow/lazy/tired on top of feeling sick.
      I hate the feeling of constantly feeling full its actually so tiring and it sucks, normally I eat dinner but not at a certain time just when imhungry, and will eat something in the day if Im super hungry but usually never before like 3pm.
      Coming home to live at home during quarantine and stuff, I have began eating so much more. my family eats dinner at basically the same time and has the most enormous portions ever. I am constantly full being at home and always feel sick. but when I say don't cook so much and then we won't eat so much they say ok but keep doing it. (I can't cook otherwise I would try also).
      Still don't eat breakfast and limit what I eat in the day so at least its not tooo much, but same as you my brother and I are the only ones who aren't overweight and we both don't live at home. even with this though I gained at least 3-4kg's coming home after only 2 months...

      Fasting combined with the keto diet will work wonders. The 1st 2 weeks are the hardest. You know you can do anything for a couple of weeks. Right? Ease into fasting. It is much easier if you restrict your carb intake. Carbs do not keep you full. I would recommend you get labs done before you begin, so you can track the improvements in your health. You should also take the most unflattering photo of yourself as a before picture. I lost 22 lbs in the 1st month with the keto diet, (at 66 years old.) but I began at 340 lbs. Yes, most of it was water weight, but it was still weight. Dr. Fung's "The Obesity Code," saved my life. I added fasting after a month or two on the keto diet. You may want to check out Dr. Berry on TH-cam. Good luck, stick with it, and take your life and health back.

When I did the testing again after six months of fasting and losing the excess weight I had, none of my values were high or low anymore. Also, as a person who was always procrastinating, along with fasting I quitely became a better person and got my life in order with an increase on my focus for other tasks. This video has changed my life and made me adopt a good lifestyle along with fasting.
    However, I've quitted fasting and gained some weight in the last three or four months due to my complicated lifestyle. Now I feel bad and I've decided to come to this video and get inspired again. I'll make it and have no fears as I saw that this works very well. Good luck everyone!

      Yes. I'm pretty sure that fasting was what contributed to a problematic knee healing itself a few years ago. A post this same comment in other video a while ago and some lady confirmed that this happened to her knee as well. So there seems to be a curing mechanism in fasting. And on a more embarassing note, don't tell anyone about the huge boners you get while not eating. Shhhhh xDDDDDDDD

    Dr Fung fell in my lap the day after I half heard a Dr Oz show on Intermittent Fasting. I paid attention to Dr Fung. Today was my 2 week weigh in. Down 5.4 lbs. The amazing part is it has been so easy. Granted it is August 2020, the year of Corona. So socializing and the eating and drinking that usually go along with good friends has been greatly diminished. However, I have put 20 lbs on since the pandemic (with 0 socializing).Having first get together this weekend. Keeping fingers crossed it doesn’t throw me off course in this journey. Less than 15lbs to go and counting.
    PS I’m 71 and feel wonderful. A great incentive. Thank you Universe for putting Dr Fung in my path.

I hired personal trainers who led me to believe I was going to need to eat six meals a day that were pre-prepped well in advance and drink expensive protein shakes and buy expensive protein bars and avoid whole food groups for most of my life.

    First time I fasted was an accident, many years ago. Was traveling Paris and could not afford both food AND travel. I realized it was really easy... but I thought it was easy because Paris was so beautiful! Soon after, I found out it's always easy as long as there's nobody around to constantly doomsday/guilt/nag at you. Soon after that, I began reading up on the science behind why it's so easy.
    Now I just resort to telling people that "I have a very slow metabolism, so I can go longer without food + I'm small." It's bull, but at least it gets people to stop yapping their uninformed nonsense at me.
    Hope this information gets reasonably mainstream soon! Thank you for the presentation!

    For years I've been fasting, during my menstruation, to help with the uncomfortable symptoms like nausea (vomiting) and cramping. I will fast for 1 or 2 days depending on how I feel. My body goes through a cleanse during that time, and fasting supports me physically and mentally. I'm thankful I can put a name to what I do. My friend, who supports people with their nutrition, told me that my fasting during menstruation is not healthy and shows my body is imbalanced. However, I don't agree with her because I'm okay with being in tune with what my body needs, and fasting supports my body during mentruation in a positive way.

I've not changed anything about what I eat, simply when I eat. Started intermittent fasting 6 days per week on a 18hr fast / 6hr fed window and have lost 70lbs in 4months. Now my wife thinks I look too much like a ripped body builder. The food and pharm industries don't want us doing this because there's no money for them in it. It works with a bit of discipline and self restraint, the 6hr eating window removes nearly all snacks from your life. Stop eating Breakfast or BREAKingFAST! Don't BREAK your fast and eat a late lunch. The more hours of continuous fasting the healthier you become.

      Or you can eat breakfest and early lunch and do a 20hour fast. Thats also another way. Carbs in the morning and practically no carbs for lunch. Its what I do. Carbs in the morning to give ur muscles and body that fresh fuel for the day, then no carbs in lunch for that massive intake of protein and some fats. Plus I go to the gym daily.
