    House (1977)
    Directed by Nobuhiko Obayashi
    Starring Kimiko Ikegami, Yoko Minamida, Miki Jinbo & Ai Matubara
    Music by Asei Kobayashi & Mickie Yoshino
    Horror has never been so hilarious. This pop fueled nightmare is the direct result of the childish experimentation of a Mr. Nobuhiko Obayashi, one of Japan's hidden cinematic darlings. In his feature debut, he would prove himself as visually interesting as he was tonally.

    21:56 “House is not a perfect film, however it is a film where this happens”
    That is the best description I’ve ever heard for House. I fucking love this movie.

    House is fucking awesome, it's a nightmare acid trip infused with pop-sensibilities and I love every bit of it. I've often described it to my friends as "the best live-action anime adaptation of all time that also wasn't based on an anime at all". It's like the crazy surrealism, fourth wall breaks, and non-sequiturs of animation brought into our own world in a way I've never seen done before or since really. Definitely worth a watch for anyone. It's more fun than any other film I've ever seen and its a perfect "movie night" movie for you and your friends to have a couple of beers to and just let loose and wild.

    I really couldn't get into this film. I certainly respect and appreciate it, and I understand why many find it so appealing, but for me its just too much.

      I think you expected it to have a story and a point. Its just a form of expression, something to think about and talk about. To get your juices going thats about it. Something fun for people to crowd around a tv and watch and have fun with. Its not some kind of Kurosawa film or Stanley Kubrick.

      I agree with Troy. I can appreciate this film, but it is too much. Too much absurdity and a hodge podge of effects. But I'm glad I saw it.

      It helps if you think more about how the film made you feel rather than how it came across. It's a lot for me as well, to the extent that I love it and hate it. But I can definitively say it's something I'll never come close to experiencing again.

    • @chrisbender8714
      @chrisbender8714 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Chromeberd how did it make you feel though? For me I felt uneasy deep down in my gut which resulted in nausea. I'm not even joking. I guess if a horror films intention is to make me feel uneasy, it was a success. And like you, I love and hate this film at the same time.

    • @Chromeberd

      @@chrisbender8714 That's kinda the neat thing honestly. I can't really sum up how it made me feel in any meaningful way that I could fit into a short comment. I think the place that makes me hate the film is due to the films basic plot on a surface level. All the girls in the show are killed off and there's really no happy ending for anybody. Except maybe the house and the spirit itself of course. From that perspective it's a very difficult premise to stomach. But it's obvious that's not really what the film is about.
      Also I deleted up to four paragraphs replying when I realized that I can't do the film justice on how I actually "felt" through watching it. I don't think I can type that many pages of content.
