Would love to hear more about the difference between prints and scans. I got into analog photography like 1,5 years ago, but don’t think I’m printing anytime soon myself. But still would be interesting to see, especially because the prints look so much richer!
i think it can come down to a lot of factors like the specific type of paper being used to print matte, glossy, satin etc... and other factors such as the overall colors being manipulated more so then just editing. you are fundamentally changing the core of the image when you enter them into those printing chemicals.
There’s always lots of WOW in your photos. I can see why you get published. Thanks for sharing your process and video with us. The fire was awesome in how you expanded the intimacy of the experience and the photos.
You’re really getting to be a great teacher. Or perhaps a better word is mentor, teaching through example. I’ve always thought it was remarkable how you see and compose images, where I might just walk by a potential subject, and rarely make compositions as interesting as yours. Maybe a future video topic? The recent video themes have been super interesting, helpful and motivating.
That means so much Bob! I don't like the word teacher because I'm very far from that qualification, but I just like sharing my process and im glad some folks enjoy it :)
Love the slight motionblur on the firefighter pictures! Might not be perfect on a technical sense, but it really shows how quickly everything happens and how much action there is.
I really liked this insight into your month! It would be cool if you did a video to show your typical week, when you shoot, project time, how much time you spend in darkroom, editing videos etc
Ohhh wow congrats on the next commission from the New Yorker Willem, that's so cool!! :o My girlfriend actually enjoys watching "Fresh off the boat" starring Randall Park so I had to show here your shots, so good!
I've always thought that the look of film is as much in the print as it is on the film. Scanning film is it's own thing, it's own look. To really see what film looks like you need to make prints. scanning prints is a long and tedious workflow but I think it's the best way to get the most out of film. I know a photographer who uses this for his workflow and their work looks amazing.
Print in the New Yorker!! Inspiring stuff! You're an unreal photographer but I'm sure your humble and easy-going nature also got you there - keep it up :)
you should reach out to the fire department to document them working, I think it could get picked up by a magazine too. California has a strong connection to fire and the fire department, at least from my perspective as an outsider
I wish I had space to print in a darkroom unfortunately space is an issue. but I actually love the Prints than the scans...seems moody and more deeep, might be the atmosphere? or the feeling like I am just sitting there
sorry I have a question, since that film photos resolution should be higher than your video resolution 1920*1080. Have you meet a situation that the film photos are losing quality after exporting the video? or do you have some recommendation of putting film photos in video and not losing its quality? Thanks in advanced!!!
5:05 you should gift a print of that to their fire station if you can! Such a great shot!
I did! They were so happy :)
@@WillemVerb That's awesome man! It definitely deserves to be hung pride of place in the station, so cool :)
new grainy days and willem vid, life's good
The print vs scan comparisons blew me away. Surprised to see how much variation there was between them. Prints 100% of the time.
Ok, now we need a GFX editing video because those look so good.
Looks like your images really captured Randall Park’s personality - Loved these portraits.
my dads a firefighter and he always loves when ppl take pictures and shares the pics with them ‘cause he LOVES showing us what he does at his job
Willem is a photographic genius! loved the Randall Park photos!

Fantastic video, Willem. Huge congrats on your latest New Yorker image. It’s great! A little bit Sothian, I’d say, but sunnier.

Wonderful work man
Interesting comparison between prints and scans, thank you. I think I prefer the prints, so the good news is that it worth it !
Definitely one of my new favourite photographers…
congrats on the commissioned work! love the come up
Love the fire/firefighter photos! They’re so real,
I hope they got to see the end results!
I bet the fire fighters would love to get some prints for their department and families, great shots.
Ohhh wow congrats on the next commission from the New Yorker Willem, that's so cool!! :o

Unique photo!
Such a broad range of subject matter, good job pal.
You remind me of that site of me that likes to take photos. And then I go out and take some. Thank you.
Frickin Revuelto?! That’s so sick to see man!! Can’t wait for that video / the images that come with it

Could you make a nother video where you show us your darkroom setup? And how you scan the images after printing? Which scanner do you use?
Beautiful images as always. I’d love to see some colour darkroom videos showing the process in detail as there’s not much online about it.
Sheesh another banger
Really nice video. Would love to see your proces on scanning prints!

amazing work as always
Insane work! With witch camera u shot the majority of these?
how do you digitize the prints? the difference is stuning
Love your style of this videos! Keep it up :D
Love the comparison Scan vs. Darkroom! How does darkroom printing work exactly? How is the digitalization process different from a scanning?
Thats a wrap 👌

Can't wait to see the images of the Corvette Z06 👀
loving it

Maybe send the fire station some of those darkroom printed photos? That would be a nice little gesture.
looking forward to the car mag content
