A fabulous retro demo! Brings back many memories to sounds and venues from long ago. i had one from 1980 until 2005 and actively and happily used it during that time. On the road with a band, and in the studio as well. At some point i got a D50 and wanted to do different things, and the Korg had to go. Never had issues with it, except for the poor soldering. My friends had the same issue, and i had to resolder mine and many of theirs. Only once mind you, after having done that the issue never returned. The MS20 and the D50 are the synths i have enjoyed the most and feature in all of my recordings.
Best demo of sounds I have ever heard of this beast. And I've owned the same '78 version for 30 years. Incredible knowledge of the synth and synthesis as a whole.
@@AnalogAudio1 Create your own Kontakt (or other) sample libraries and sell them! You definitely have the chops! That's what I do with my non-programmable synths (MonoPoly, SH101, Arp 2600 clone, and MS20), but for me it's just for capture and recall, and not for sales (yet!?).
the new filter was implemented years after the screw was added. That means, that a MS-20 without screw (like mine) hat always a Korg 35 filter. I also have a MS-20 with the newer filter, it sounds somewhat "cleaner", for some sounds it's fantastic. That's the reason I have two units.
Dudes, perhpas I wasn't clear. What I wanted to say is: can you fucking believe they had this in the 70s already? Indeed pointing out that that shit sounds 10 times more powerful than most of the digital crap they're rolling out these days... :-D
We already had many "modern" stuff and music in the seventies ! Lot of essential technic electronic creations were made since the 19th century, and we lived in a rather comfortable decade there... by the way, I'd love to come back to these years...@@MrLawrence0071
I know your question has been asked 1 year ago but still… You can connect the sound output to your computer soundcard input. For the midi/cv control, there are midi to cv converters, the only company that comes to mind is Doepfer. So you can play the MS-20 with a digital audio workstation (or sequencer) and record your sounds, process them in the same DAW, etc…
Just picked up one of these! With the type 35 filter. 6:26 - How are you making the "iiieeeeyeeeah" sound?! Sounds like a voice! I can see that's not coming from an external signal, so that's possible onboard?
@@samw9935 I've figured out vocal formant shenanigans yeah. Although not exactly this one that is eerily like a female voice. Just borrowed a mkII also funnily enough. Will have to do a mkI and II video.
The fact that there is no screw VCA diagram doesn't say it's an KORG 35 filter inside. I have seen more MS-20 synths without the screw and an OTA based filterboard inside. If you realy want to know what type of filter u got, just unscrew the left side pannel and look for an extra pcb behind the VCF pot's. Sounds to me that you got a OTA version. Nice vocal patch btw. Cheers, Maarten
Korg...best of Synthesizers !!
@MarioJulianoBeats This was made in 1978. The only way you can 'connect' it with anything is by CV, ie no MIDI. You may be thinking of the legacy model, which came out a few years ago which makes its sounds though software and uses a glorified MIDI controller keyboard that looks like the MS 20.
Great sounds, as always :) My MS 20 has a screw in the front panel, but it still has the Korg 35 filter, I've looked inside.... Have you? I'd like to know which filter you have ;)
Beim MS-20 bekommt man recht schnell irgendwelche Ergebnisse.
and I can't help but imagine being able to hit a 7th chord... oh mannnn.... i swear, I still kinda hate monos. I need one, and am buying either a new or old one... but good God I love polyphony. Mono's are like synths that haven't become a man yet... or a woman. Just kids. EDIT: I forgot... all a mono means is that I will have to sample it in order to get polyphony... and fatter pad and thicker-harmonic bass options.

Thanks! The MS-20 was my only semimodular synth for years, so I tried out everything to have a lot of different sounds.

I watch this video nearly EVERY day. Really.
One of the best demos. You're really clever, congratulations.
I'm about to get one of the MS-20 mini's. Thanks for posting this!

2 ms 20s is dope! Have you ever used the sequencer for it?
By far my favorite MS 20 video.
do you have a diagram for that formant patch at 6:35? its great!
Best MS-20 demo on TH-cam!!!
the KORG MS20 is often considered as a 'poor man's 2600' but in fact is an sonic equal synthesizer with a differents spectrum
i love its filters
Great sonic adventure! I just recently purchased the MS-20 mini.
Space and Ufo effects is fantastic
I often use a Y jack (1 mono male to 2 mono males) to control both the two cutoff with the modulation wheel. Wild screaming filters when rez at 9...

Der MS-20 ist einfach super !!
great sounds thanks!
thank you... I recorded the audio directly. The recording was done digitally.
I have this and your ms 20 mini audio on my iPod as songs, Analog Audio, artist.
Super! A brilliant demo of an amazing synth.
goeie demo red dread egt!!
veel gefriemel en ook leads /fx topperdit!
Amazing man, you are great, and the synth is great!
Great old songs
Sometimes, I regret I traded it for a Korg Radias...
Love the sound at 2:15
Fuck.... this is THE Synth!

Fair enough. Great skills! I salute you.
pls reveal

5:50 AMAZING patch man
Never liked this synth for aesthetic purposes.after this vido, I love it!
this is an interaction of the highpass and lowpass filters.
so sick
thanks :-)
of course, I did that many times. That's analog! :-)

I really want to know how the sounds at 3:10 were achieved.
@DJPeteJames the two resonant filters (highpass / lowpass) make it
possible.
@beatleswhitealbum yes, of course :-) thanks
@AnalogAudio1 What's the vocal-like setting at 5:40?
in 2:34 and 3:03 how do you do that sequence???
There's some incredible patches on show here! @ 6:24 is a particular fave - how did you do it? It sounds like a formant!
Disturbing lack of noise coming from this demo...how is your MS so clean?

@retrosound72 man gewöhnt sich dran ;-)
I'd love to have some of these patches if you have written them down... Mostly thewoman voice in the middle. Is that possible ?
This is good =D
Amazing Demo!
I'm buying one from a sucker right now for $200 CAD who thinks it's a midi controller
how did it go, has he sold it to you?
Plot twist: it's MS-20 controller for Korg Legacy MS-20 VST, and the sucker was you.
@@raytracer5726 good one 😂
07:08 is pure Liaisons Dangereuses!
6.28 !!! OMG! ALIEN VOICE!!!!!!
Hi, whats the Name of the Sound at 5:41 ?
Thanks and greetings
There are no presets with names to choose from. So why would you need a name...
I'm looking for the Klaus Schulze sound from the Farfisa Synth Orchestra, this one in this video comes very close
5:42 mark, bravo
At 3:55, is Metropolis by Kraftwerk ?
amazing, but what camera did you use to film this? or did you apply a 70's effect to it after?
07:25 is that sync??????
what is the patch in 7:00? i couldn't spot it in the vid

6:24 mark, wow
Danke.
What are you talking about?
@MarioJulianoBeats
Uhhh this is from 1978.
no, the MS-20 has no sync. But it sounds similar ;-)
Have you had any chance to check out the new Behringer K2 version?
why out of focus ?
The synth? Or my video? Why? I don't understand

Mono synths are made for leads, bass, or fx. Not every sound in music has to be polyphonic.
