I LOVE mine.... the most stable of all of my old synths. I just used it on a track today. Analog beauty!

Great post here....I was watching this video the other day with members of The Human League and Heaven 17. They still have this synthesizer in their studio and said you can do all kinds of stuff with this synthesizer. Now I am not a purist in I think David Grohl's comment at the Grammy's says it all. "It doesn't have to be perfect....just what your going for" a jab at industry standards with overproduction as a preoccupation.Art doesn't happen over night.

First synth I ever bought, $250 used, and I had to buy it on lay-away! Listen to this thing rock! My buddies and I used to sit for hours, all elevated, and experiment with thing for hours. The cheapest synth around generally (short of Italian weirdies), and rocked as hard as any fancy MiniMoog or Odyssey! The Octave Cat was another lessor known synth that really made impressive sounds!

You're like the "Kind Midas" of vintage synths. Any/every synth you touch, instantly turns to gold. (or at least gold for my ears) When it comes to vintage/analog synths, you really do have a way of bringing out their best.

This was used in 'Cybotron - Sonic Overdrive' if I am not mistaken.
Sounds fantastic. Some of these 70's synths only ever made the sound of a cat chewing a bee.
    Sweet playing too!

"By the early 1970s, techniques of tape manipulation were being superseded by synthesizers, especially the Moog synthesizer, which could theoretically produce any type of pitch or timbre, but usually made a sound like a cat chewing a bee." - spoken by Oliver Postgate in the documentary 'BBC Radiophonic Workshop - The Alchemists of Sound'

Good god, I had one of these back in the 70s that I picked up for next to nothing simply to have a second synth in my rig next to my Mini Moog. I never gave it the credit it deserved and to be honest I don't even know what happened to it. Another one in a long list of, "Wish I still had it." synths.

I've got a 700s, and it is GREAT!
The 800DV was (I think) two 700 synths stitched together, so you get more oscillators (or a duophonic capability). The difference with the 700s however, was the modulator sounds - listen about 8:15 for example, or 8:55. You can't do that stuff without the ring-modulator, that both the 700 and 800DV lacked!

And the Volca Keys is about half the size of this (if that) so certain runs of multiple notes on a Volca Keys would not be possible (though there are runs on a Volca Keys that no other instrument can duplicate. I'd rather have one of these than a Volca Keys.

Gorgeous! This is absolutely the best demonstration of the broad sonic palette of this little gem. It sounds very unlike the popular Moogs, ARPs and Rolands. Apart from it's filters it must be somehow related to the linear V/Hz scaling.

Thanx a lot, that clearifies it... What I've heard till now I prefer the 700s above the maxi. An incredible sound. It somehow reminds me of Klaus Schulze early 70's work, although I don't believe he ever used one. Still... One of the most interesting synths I've heard on the web. Your playing is also great by the way! This is the first synth on my wishlist for sure.

Modified my 700 to 700S w/ factory circuitry, CV in/out, long sustain switch, "attack knob", sequencer controls, pitch and mod wheels from Moog. Stronger springs on keyboard, keys filled with silicone= much firmer, solid feel...most all lettering (bender, traveler, expand, etc.) removed. Original owner, still have it, paired with Davel sequencer. Made the panel in a high school metal shop. Still one of my favorites!

@antoninprochazka the 800DV (Maxikorg) is something like two Minikorg 700 (not 700S !) It sounds similar, but not identical, for example the 800 DV has slightly different waveforms, also the filters sound not 100% the same. Even a Korg 700 sounds different to a Korg 700S (in the same settings). Since all is analogue there can be differences from unit to unit.

    @dudewhosaysarrh 11 ปีที่แล้ว

I know, I pre ordered it back in January ;-) it should arrive in a couple of weeks. AFAIK the keybed is not the one from the MicroKorg but was specifically developed for the MS 20 mini. The USB and MIDI interfaces are just receive- only trigger interfaces for note on/off so you can use it with a MIDI sequencer or trigger it via a software sequencer, Apart from that the MS 20 is as old school as it gets -so no controller functionality, I'm afraid.

Late reply, but a reply nonetheless... Basically it's a signwave + portamento + delayed vibrato. The Korg 700 / 700s / 700fs really excels at these theremin-like-sounds, which have become one of the signature sounds of artists like Kitaro.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Korg and the 40th anniversary of the relaese of their first synth, wich was the minikorg 700, so its hardly any wonder it is featured in the catalog. I have a 700 and I really like its sound. But I still whish I had the functionalities of 700s as well... unless someone would confirm that they don't sounds the same at all. 700s are getting harder and harder to find.

Wonderful sounds, I'm walking the Silk Road. Is it worth pursuing it when you already have a MaxiKorg? Is it worth pursuing a MaxiKorg when you already have the 700S? In fact, I'm lost and if you had the 770 to my interrogations, I drown....

the 800DV has two independent synths in one you have completely different sounds...

    No,..not even close.
    I'm not knocking the MicroKorg,...but...
The MicroKorg is an analog modeling synth,..The MiniKorg 700S is a PURE ANALOG SYNTH.
Save your money on the MicroKorg, and save up a little more to get a Polysix or if you'd rather somethin' with analog modeling,..get an MS2000 or MS2000R /BR.
