Great job and thanks for showing us exactly what needs done and an overview how to do it. 👍🏼🙌🏼 I have a 2020 CVO Street Glide that needs some waking up!! I just purchased and installed @sharkroad mufflers. They’re a little quiet for my liking yet so I’m removing the baffles today, 10/31/2021 to hear how it sounds. My next step is to remove that ridiculous cat just as you did! For two huge reasons that cat needs removing: 1) it is literally choking the engine and since it can’t breathe it can’t perform like it should from factory, and 2) this bike runs exceeding hot! With it running so hot the engineers had to design an entire system to allow the one cylinder to shutdown while remain running just to allow the engine to remain in the appropriate temperature zone. With that much heat being created the engine life is drastically being decreased with higher probability of engine problems and failure. Not to mention how the existing oil pump issues have on the engine. So, just by removing the cat we are no doubt extending the life of the engine, while increasing performance. AND Harley Dealers say if the cat is removed it voids the warranty. HELL, They ought to thank us because it’s saving them the expense of warranty work!!
Had the cat removed at my dealership when I went to stage2 on my 2018 FLTRU. It did cut down on the heat for sure. Also did not effect my warranty. Running SE Cannons. Love the sound and not to loud.
When I bought my 2008 SG, the former owner changed the exhaust. Straight pipes right into two Screaming Eagle mufflers with baffles. So I took those off and put Jones exhaust on it with no baffles. Sounds great. Only one problem. My bike is almost a full stage 1 upgrade. That means he took the plastics from behind the air cleaner, did the exhaust, and should have done a tune. I did not know I needed a tune as I am fairly new still to riding. So because I did not get a tune my bike dumps more fuel into the engine so much so that I get a gold colored burn spot on my right pipe because when I get down on it my bike spits a small steady flame now in that one side. Every bike machanic I talk to says a dyno tune will fix that. They also tell me that almost every time you do something performance wise to these bikes that I might need a tune after. So all I got to to do is get a tune for my bike and throw on new Jones tips and I guess I'm good as gold, pun intended.
@@MotorHead963 Harley-Davidson always steers me to their Vance & Hines tuner that they sell for like $400. I guessing it's a good thing to have so I don't have to dyno the bike every time I do an upgrade. It's funny they make it sound like after literally every single upgrade... I need to instantly go dyno it. Sometimes it sounds like they are low key saying hey just give us your money lol.
My cats are in the mufflers on my 2020 heritage. I bought new slip ons and the cats slide right out lol. Debating on taking them out but don't want a check engine and voided warranty

Nice sound, did you lose any low end torque by doing all that. Are did you remove the baffles, ride it. Then remove the crap from catalytic converter and ride again. To see if you lost any power or torque. Also was told by removing all that it will run good for awhile then start missing and backfiring from not enough backpressure. Have you noticed any of this?
It straight piped and didn’t noticed any loss of power, it seems to have more power now. After all that I put over 10k miles and no backfire and sounds healthy. And the best part less heat
@@melvinwashington-oc7kk all you gotta do is pull off your slipon and get a 1 inch wide 12 inch long bit. And drill it out . Chisel out as you go . Pretty self explanatory
you didnt have to do all of that. I went to harbor freight and got a 15 inch long 3/8 drill and drill out the cat around. I pulled it out after several pass of drilling. no need to remove the exhaust header. and no welding.
After you drilled the cat out did you do anything with tuning and could you tell any kind of performance increase ? How big of a pain in the ass was drilling it out ?
Yeah that’s my bad 😅 on the end there were 2 spot welds that I had to grind down and than I was able to remove baffle … kinda pain in the ass, I have no idea why I didn’t record that… Thanks for watching 🤘
I put a set of rc slip-ons on my 103 street glide then a couple years later got to where I couldn't stand the heat on my legs anymore so I did the same thing you did and cut the cat out with pipes still on bike and welded back. Took care of the heat but still don't have the sound I want so thinking about taking the baffles out and putting a open breather and filter on it next. Will it be ok to leave the computer the way it is from factory or will I need to have a map download on it? Thanks
Uh with what you all are doing, did, or planning you better get it tuned. Can’t move more air and not add fuel. You’ll burn it up running lean. I see yours already stutters a bit. Hmm wonder why it almost died on you in the one part of the video? Oh yeah it running lean!!!
@@MotorHead963 There is an easier way to empty cats. Pull both mufflers. Long rod and a hammer. Tap it up into the cat and break it up. Fire up the bike and it will blow it out. Sweep up the mess. Put the mufflers back on. Car people have done this for years before down stream air/fuel sensors.
Sounds good. I got a ‘18 CVO Road Glide, has slip ons and I just ordered a V&H FP3 so I should delete the cat also. I too have a Hemi Orange Challenger. Cheers!
You don't need the FP3 unless you install a Hi-flow air cleaner and, or replace the headpipe. If you de-cat your stock headpipe, then yes, you need a FP3 tune. It's worth it. The Catalytic Converter is an EPA thing, makes the engine run hotter.
