The moment the 'Emperor's Plan' is revealed to us as a 3rd person viewer, is the moment the 'Lore' loses all hope, mystery and imagination. I hope GW gives us MORE Malcador lore but never expands or reveals The Emperor's history or foresight.... The whole 'faith in the Emperor's Plan' appeal is exactly that and I'm sure all Black Library writers are tied into the understanding that revealing details of the Emperor is a no go area. Plus, Luetin would be out of a job if they ever did reveal more about the Emperor, although his sanity would definitely be more stable.

Many years ago, I spoke with one of the original writers for Games Workshop and basically what he told me (yeah I know, take this with a grain of salt!) was that the original deep lore, true for both 40k and Fantasy, was that there was nothing besides the Chaos Gods and their daemons, that just set the whole thing up like some epic Lovecraftian cosmic horror story to be their playground. The original Sigmar of WHFB was actually a greater daemon of Khorne in disguise, Ulric was Khorne. Morr was actually Nurgle, and so on, and even the Elven/Eldar gods were actually Chaos gods or their greater daemons too (as if the Khaine thing wasn't obvious enough). It didn't matter what you'd do, you were providing food and entertainment for the Chaos Gods one way or another, and anyone that thinks they are resisting Chaos is actually being played by one Chaos god and fighting against another.
Now with the whole Age of Sigmar thing they stretched this deep lore quite a bit as they felt that Warhammer needed some good guy paragons of virtue (lol), and I was told something similar was planned for 40k back then. The idea was that the Tyranids would win and devour the whole galaxy, and all the factions desperately fleeing into the webway or some new kind of pocket universe so that all factions could fight any other faction easily because of colliding bubbles, pretty similar to how it went with Age of Sigmar, and humans would have some good guy faction in there led by I think it was somekind of reborn Emperor, but not 100% sure on whether it actually fully is him.
The huge backlash against the destruction of the Old World caused them to put that idea on the backburner, but it was originally planned to be the conclusion of the whole plot arc starting with the Primaris being created and the King in Yellow thing, so who knows if they abandoned that idea (let's hope) or are still going to push it through.
The original deep lore from 20 or so years ago just has the Emperor return as a greater daemon of the Chaos Gods after he entered the warp at Molech, which incidentally is exactly the same story as Sigmar who ventured north and had that same thing happen to him, in both cases setting up humanity to a grim dark existence with maximum war and misery, as the Chaos Gods will it. Malcador is some Chaos agent in disguise that was instrumental in this plot. Anwyay, in both cases, Sigmar and the Emperor, now greater daemons, sought to break free and cheat and usurp their creator gods, and that is how Sigmar eventually ascended thanks to having a cult dedicated to him, and well, the same thing for the Emperor, having a galaxy-wide cult and daily psyker-juice.
Anyway, the whole original thing was the bleakest-of-bleak scenario in the video, with the Emperor's masterplan of breaking free originally just being limited to the the whole webway thing, which indeed went tits up due to Chaos Gods having planned this all along and outplaying him by using Magnus and kickstarting the war too early, that is original lore as far as I know. After his webway project was destroyed, the Emperor was indeed winging it, and eventually deciding he'd beat the Chaos Gods at their own game, and went to do the same thing as Sigmar, aiming to ascend to full godhood and become a powerful enough force in the warp to stand up to the Chaos Gods and birth a faction of The Good Guys In Shining Golden Armor With Thunderbolts And Wings And Stuff (TM).

If 40K history were to roughly follow the Dune path, the Emperor’s goal was always to be overthrown, but to be overthrown by something better, not by a new would-be god or the self-destructive chaos of unending strife. That’s one way to read Malcador’s line: the rebellion came before the rest of humanity was ready to defeat and replace the Emperor. Maybe Guilliman can figure something out.

You missed out a detail from the short story "Horus and the Emperor" when the Emperor described reaching the end of his ability to see into the future, when I can't glimpse what is ahead, it is his time of testing. I believe this is why he was in such a hurry during the crusade, he only knew what was going to happen up to a certain point and wanted to be ready for when the time came, yet he didn't know just want it was.

    • @Broomer52
      @Broomer52 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

It hasn’t been disproven yet but I remember the Emperor saying how even though he sees the future he doesn’t see precise paths. He describes it as climbing a mountain. You see the paths you can take but choose the wrong path and your footing may collapse so despite seeing possible futures he’s never sure which is the correct one. Conrad had a similar problem but never learned better judgment of these visions. He’d see multiple possible futures and he would always assume the worst future was the correct future and act on that. Which led to his mental collapse as he became paranoid, jaded, unhinged and aggressive. All this to say if you saw multiple paths and outcomes your whole life only to eventually see nothing at all, it would create even greater paranoia because “what does this mean? Why is their no future?”

I think the fact he was hesitant to kill Horus, wanting to believe to the very end he could still be saved, shows that Big E most likely saw many threads of thr future, like the Eldar Farseer's, saw one with high potential to succeed and most chances to re-correct if brought awry, and then tried to brute-force that timeline, potentiall side effects be damned, as even the web of potentiall failures was bettee than all other paths. This would explain his 'core' self appearing to those who saw it cold, brutal, hectic and unimaginably arrogant. And to anyone not on the level of a farseer like Ulthuvanne, this would look just like every other tyrannical despot in mankind's history, just on a Lovecraftian scale of cosmic horror. After all, if you see every path leading to garuanteed extinction and damnation of your species, except a very specific one, including most of the possible derailements from it; any price is worth paying as the alternative is not even really an alternative from your species' point of view. Let that sink in; the current state of Humanity might be the worst possible in the timeline he forced, but every other one would be garuanteed extinction.

After 5 hours of luetin exploring the character of the emperor. He’s an even more cryptic, mysterious, awe inspiring and absolutely terrifying character than I imagined him to be. Luetin raising more questions than he answered. I think the emperor fundamentally is good yet has become something so vastly powerful and a scope of knowledge so great that even a primarch can’t comprehend who he really is and the extent of his plans. Religious people say « god works in mysterious ways » now often it’s used as a cop out, but imagine a being has such an extensive knowledge of the universe, of time, of humanity but doesn’t have it all as the emperor himself explains to Ra, wouldn’t such a being’s actions seem uncaring? Evil at times? Ultimately, he’s the only one looking out for humanity in the 40k universe

Luetin09 is nice 👍 The Emperor has read The prince, by Niccolò Machiavelli and sun tzu, the art of war. Read these and you will understand the Emperor’s mindset much better, it’s not easy reads, maybe start with a documentary, or even Wikipedia, don’t trust everything you read on Wikipedia, but in this case you can prepare you to understand a 500 year old and 2400 year old Work of literature. In the universities they are used in political science, geopolitic, journalism, military studies, military academies, Business schools, and even elite sports. shakespeare Didn't fancy "By all means necessary" which originates from the debate about the prince should be allowed to be read by Christians. Shakespeare invented the freas machiavellian, about someone who is exactly like the emperor of man. (It’s of course the creators of the 40k universe that has read the book’s and used them as and inspiration) 😊

    The Long Game:
In the Defense of Chaos, "they" had the Galaxy where they wanted it M30. The Warp was sentient and not "completely" self-consuming. And enough soul bearing species were too busy killing each other rather than organize into anything that might actually "cough" make them do stuff for them. Then this one monkey comes along and literally over night ALL the monkeys are in one line of thinking. Those that aren't, are dead. (a literal galaxy's worth of religious zealots sacrificed, important later) This simply could not stand.... The warp is the perfect embodiment of the phrase, the wave corrects itself. And from that Shock-wave of death and destruction that was the Unification Wars, "came" the Horus Heresy as its sacrificial echo. IT was less a how dare those traitors, as much as it was "gonna" be someone, and in this Big E played his hand as spread out as humanly possible, literally spoon feeding some of his Primarchs to each Chaos God in turn, in order to hopefully ignore the others..... Instead of corrupting 3 or 4 Demi-Gods like the Eldar had lost in order to fall, he gave them too many options to "concentrate fully" on and Chaos in its own nature only got about half of them.... This was the Genius and Damning Sin of Big E, Sacrificing a Galaxy's worth of humans... twice... Just to make sure... humanity was united in its fight against Chaos, and/or the rest of the Galaxy.
Was the Imperium "run" by Astartes or a Primarch as both Big E and Malcador feared? No...
Was the Imperium run by humans? Yes.....
Did the Imperium (at times) have inept leadership? Yes....
    Flawed? Yes.....
Did it endure itself for 10,000 years? Also yes.
Did we indeed save ourselves? Also also yes....
    Long Game.

On the other hand Big E has done the exact same thing as many of the chaos gods. Infact for all we know he was born of chaos through humanities combined emotion and need for unity and pride, explaining his unexplainable power and unknown origin.
He has more followers than any chaos god, possibly more than all of them combined. he certainly receives more sacrifices. He currently functionally exists only in the warp. Not to mention the entire empire is a glorified cult, with him as the center of worhsip, even having "demonic" lieutenants and troops who take on his image and ideals aesthetically and practically.
It explains every contradiction and unknown surrounding him, the Emperor wanted to become a chaos god and has succeeded.

I think an interesting thing to point out about the legend of the clock and it chiming on the doom of humanity is that the word "doom" doesn't just mean a kind of negative future event. In earlier times that word was predominantly used to mean something synonymous with fate. One might just as easily tell a 12th century noble "the doom of your house fast approaches!" and he would understand it to mean the fate or some kind of deciding culture event will be happening soon. or in the Lord of the Rings the "doom of man" is something mentioned but it's somthing yet to be decided. If I recall correctly it's Galadriel talking about whether mankind will be Sauron puppets or if Aragorn will become the king and lead mankind into a new golden age. The idea being that a decisive tipping point is coming where a major event will drastically change in one way or another the future of a given thing. All that to say, the clock may well have been chiming not to signal the extinction or end of humanity but rather a decisive moment in human history that would determine, in a huge way, the future of humanity

the doom of man in lotr is just that men die, iirc that speech was referencing the duality of elronds line, both men and elves, and granted the choice by dieties in the setting to live as one or the other, notably elronds brother, aragorns ancestor, chose to live and die with mankind, and arwen in the time of lotr made the same choice for love of aragorn , a circumstance galadriel was very aware of, as she had been almost like adopted family and matchmaker for aragorn at one point

While J.R.R. Tolkien has a contextual meaning of doom, where it's more of a neutral meaning, in his works doom could be a synonym to the word destiny. However, generally in the past, the word doom has had a very negative context, for English speakers. For example, one possible origin of the word doom comes from the word dom(circa 1600), which meant judgement and or condemnation. Also, domen(circa 1400), which meant: "to judge, pass judgment on,". Tolkien also studied ancient Scandinavian texts, and perhaps in those sister languages to English, doom has/had a more neutral context, idk?

Which would distract them and he could slowly but surely get control XD Btw: Would explain his Psychic powers but please take this with a grain of salt because im still new to the Universe. If he had finished the webway, he could've sent the legions in a suicide battle against the dark eldar. Also, if his project had been completed he could probably manipulated the webway to cut off the legions from one another and have them be defeated in detailed
