    This is really helpful..
    You're so calm which is what I really love.. Cause if my instructor is gonna go hard on me, I would lose all my confidence and panicked

      The job of an instructor is to motivate the student to be better. If the student doesn't perform an exercise as expected, a good instructor will tell the student WHY it's not good enough and then teach the student HOW to improve. Unfortunately, some instructors forget that it is the student who pays the instructor's salary. Flight training is expensive, and the student should expect good value for the money. Therefore, if the instructor does a poor job, the student has the right to demand the flight school to provide a better instructor.

    “Enjoy the emergency” is the attitude I’m trying to use in my training. I wish I had learned this sooner.

    It's also nice to be a TRI, you learn a lot and be even more proficient during abnormal and emergency situation

    Stressful parts:
    - training
    - maintaining medical standards
    - maintaining “good moral character”
    - check rides
    - systems knowledge
    - knowing that if your airline goes bankrupt you start at the bottom of seniority
    - being away from your loved ones
    Oh yeah - the flying
    - satisfying regulations and ops specs
    - taking responsibility for everything (your career and life on the line)
    - and more…:

    I had asked one pilot when I was on a flight. He had exactly said the same thing... fear of engine failure during take off.
    But flying a small plane, I found landing in a bit of cross wind difficult, as the light plane was getting blown away from the runway.
    Are you not afraid of cross wind while landing ?

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never been. I don't take-off or land if the crosswind component exceeds my limitation, and the aircraft's limitation, of course.

      @@FlywithMagnar Can you define or describe GUST ?

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sure. Wind at an airport is reported as the average wind over a period of 10 minutes. If maximum wind velocity is 10 kt or more above the average wind, then the maximum value is reported as gust. Example: 33025G35. In this case, the wind is from 330 degrees, and the average velocity is 25 kt. Maximum value is 35 kt. The gust is then 35-25=10 kt.

    Hey Cap, I fly both the ATR 42/72-500 on my flight simulator but I have noticed about something strange, the ATR 42 have 4 flaps positions but the ATR 72 only have 3. Why is that?

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The first ATR 42 variant, the 300, was designed with flaps 0, 15, 30 and 45. Test flights proved that this was too much, as the tail could stall if there was ice on the leading edge of the tailplane. Therefore, flaps 45 is only authorized for emergency use when there are normal conditions (no icing).
      When ATR designed the 42-500, they modified the flaps to operate at 0, 15, 25 and 35 degrees.
      The 72 has a larger wing, and has always had 0, 15 and 30 flaps positions. This works fine, and ATR has not decided to redesign that wing.
