  • How I cleaned up my Farm Dam from the Weeds and Azolla.
It does take a while to work through the process but you can get rid of nearly all the weeds.

That's quite amazing Dave how much better the dam looks now and looks about twice the size. Just a word of caution, take some of the water out of the boat before you go sailing in it.
I'm going to send you an email but need to get a photo first to put in the email. cheers bro.

Azolla is actually a native to Australia and we have it in our in nrth NSW.
We use it as a resource rather than a pest and harvest it for the compost pile.
It makes a great green starter for the compost. In other countries where is also endemic it is considered a super-food for compost piles. It is high in nitrogen and nutrients.

Yep since the video I have started harvesting the Azolla for the compost. Cheers Dave.

Hmmm, "Unsinkable 3" - does that imply that you've already sunk two previous unsinkables? It will be interesting to see whether that silicone based clearcoat has any effect in also keeping away your mosquitos.

I have the same red azolla problem in a dam in the reserve over the road from my property. Council are refusing to take action so I might have to myself. If you were to do it again would you go with the Azolla rake option, or just go straight for the Orange Oil treatment? Also, be glad for an update on the Surface Clear effectiveness. Thanks!

To buy the kit with the orange oil and the surface clear is expensive at about $380. I think the rake does make a difference but I would buy the bigger model. If the dam is large it takes a long time to see any difference if just using the rake. I think you could get rid of the azolla with just the orange oil.
I have put two treatments of the surface clear on this summer. I put it on when I just start to see a 'greeny' film start to appear on the surface. On both occasions it cleared it up the next day so I can see it works. Also seems to keep the mosquitos controlled as well (although they do sell another product for this - could be he same?) Cheers Dave.

Hey Sean. I think it gets carried in by the duck and water birds. A few years ago all of the dams around my area were clear and now most are full of weed. Doesn't help that we had a super wet year and lots of water run off from the paddocks. Neighbours really go overboard on the fertiliser. Cheers Dave

@@TreeChangeFarmer Yes I agree looks like the Ducks are the main issue transfering it around in our area, one again thanks I will be grabbing some next week.
