Even years after its release, I am still entranced by this soundtrack of the summer of '15. There are a number of very interesting things going on here. For instance, the naive genius of the chorus of the first track "Over Your Head" still astounds me. The way that the bass -- probably accidentally -- plays a half-step too low at first (hear at 0:47) is eerie and so damned cool. This dissonance totally makes the track and is itself a great hook, in an album just packed full of great hooks. (Now, why they didn't repeat this likely mistake on the second time through each chorus phrase is a mystery. Perhaps this adds to the tension by creating less of it?) The band and/or its producers obviously liked the nervy sound and they amplified the weirdness of it by adding a gong (!) to the part and allowing the vocalist to stray somewhat cacophonously from the key center also before it resolves. Very nice! These are the cool kids, folks.

the guitar solo on Sleep is just so juicy.... such a good outro for a release. i've been trying to get that melting sound by playing with flanger/overdrive but still doesn't sound as good as that. Big UP !
