D2 Discussion of the effects of modifying the side-chain of penicillins [SL IB Chemistry]

Least you need to know:
Penicillin kills bacteria by disrupting cell wall production.
Water enters and the bacteria explodes.
Changing the side chain on the penicillin gives it different properties.
Eg acid or penicillinase resistant
