Starboard inner undercarriage door seems to be stuck, so the right wheel won't fully retract. Normally, when the retracting wheel pushes onto a plate in the wheel well, the inner door retracts togeteher with the rest of the wheel. But 1:00 you can actually see the inner door didn't retract and so probably blocked the whole wheel. Port wheel doors functioned normally.
Some russian ace used to fly on these was shot down three times he always survives .Then he got american P-39 aircobra he was three times awarded like national hero

You are right...the Klimov was a heavy engine that had it's share of problems but it put out a boatload of horsepower when it was running well. MIG did try running a Shvetsov M-82 radial engine in the airframe (MIG 9 or I-210) but it ultimately didn't outperform the La-5's and Yak's which were already in full production.
@@19Koty96 the training was an issue early in the war but as things progressed, the Russian pilots got better and better. The MIG became a pretty good high altitude interceptor but most "dogfights" were below it's optimum altitude which is why the La-5 and Yaks were is such demand as they excelled in these "dogfight" altitudes...

So many comments on the "quality" of the aircraft. Keep in mind not many MiGs survived the war and this one probably does not have parts in the best condition. A partially retracted gear would not of been passable during its time but now it is old and worn. To tell you the truth I believe MiG made the highest quality aircraft of the Russian side of WW2. Yakovlev, Polikarpov, and Lavochkin never really made planes with this much finesse and thought.
On the contrary, all Russian designers put a lot of thought in what they did, given the lack of resources and technology and time. They still managed to deliver very fine examples of planes - and not only. The IL-2, Yak-3, La-5, Pe-2, among others. Also, Polikarpov had great new designs and even a prototype plane built and tested, but he was already out of favor with Stalin. Comes to remind that beside the above difficulties, the soviet designers always had the regime putting some serious pressure on them. Step out of the line one may find themselves doing whatnot in a jail design bureau, that is, if they're lucky.
The Russian designers also kept in mind that their planes aren't too difficult to build. Unskilled workers were able to built these planes, that's also why you wouldn't find the most advanced things they had at the time in these planes.
I heard Stalin ordered the production of the MiG-3 to stop in 1941. Was the airplane not that good? It is a nice looking airplane and I only know it because of IL-2 Great Battle series. They did play a large role in defending Moscow in 1941. But for some reason they were relegated to guard duty afterwards (IE not seeing action).
cripplehawk as you can see from the take off roll these thing were squirrelly and very easy to over control. It required high pilot skill and experience that after the disastrous first year the Soviets didn’t have. Eventually they would rebuild that experience base. But until then there was no way the Soviets were putting new inexperienced pilots in these things.
Upon viewing this again, I noticed that the right main landing gear isn't completely tucked up. Is this a normal feature on this aircraft? Don't believe so. Hope they corrected it before something bad happens.
I wonder how can that pilot squeeze himself into the cockpit, seeing that at the beginning, during take off, his helmet shows over the canopy frame... He must have wished to be neckless!

It was a little slower at low at low and medium altitudes to the German planes and didnt turn as well because it was over 1000lbs heavier. It was also underpowered gun wise . Many were shot down and they were essentially pulled from fighter interceptor roles.. It was also not well suited as a fighter bomber. Pretty plane but not an effective one. The Yak 3 was the best fighter the Soviets had in WWII.
They were not used during Battle of Stalingrad. They were mostly assigned to Moscow anti air defense. Also flight specifications of Mig-3 are very lacking, it can outrun 109`s at high altitudes, but thats all

Yeah they were far from ideal. That’s probably why they didn’t build that many of them. Barely 900 of these made where as the Yak and Lavochkin were made in the 10s of thousands. Kind of tells you what the Russians thought of it.

It is amazing that pilots like Pokryshkin shot down quite many german fighters with it, Bf-109 would outmaneuver Mig-3.
I think part of his success against eh germans was the fact that the east and west fronts were killing off all the the experienced german pilots. the germans never ran out of aircraft...they ran short of able pilots.
you don't have time to make good quality when you need to make thousands of planes while at war against Nazi Germany. US plants building US planes were safe from japanese or german air strikes on the mainland and while Russia is a huge country, most of the land to the east is wild and cold, it's not California or Texas :p Now look at the Su-27 series of planes, nothing wrong with russian quality or any country quality when you have the time and the money to make something great.

the engine was fine; the pilots' training wasn't up to par - MiG-3 was way too difficult to fly and only a few could really master it.

An absolutely great plane to fly in War Thunder. The thing is that you should never attempt to turn fight in it. Always do the “Boom and Zoom” tactic.

there has been lot of bad aircrafts, rushed into production with faults and weak materials.
