Kenny is such a likeable man and an excellent narrator, a bit like an old friend really. If just one per cent of his vast mechanical knowledge rubs off on me, I'm hoping I can at least save a few quid at the garage. Cheers old chap.
I learned a long time ago...ac Delco on gm only...I've seen a bunch of part's store sensors flat out not work with 99 up gm...square body trucks aren't as fussy
Kenny I Love and enjoy watching all your videos your talents and experience master level plus , your a fantastic orator . Thanks for making the videos and sharing them .I know how much time it takes to record and edit all the videos. Thank you 👍
It's always good to watch you work, interesting, honest mechanics, lm in the UK 🇬🇧 l have a Citroen xsara picasso, and 18:48 it was showing showing a number of faults problem was brakes were jaming on and everything lit up so alternator showing low charge still showing faults replacement of ERG sensor that monitors emissions solved the problems 😊
That was a good video to teach all vehicle owners to carry the basics (toolkit/scanner) things that don't cost a lot & can get them out of trouble in the middle of nowhere & no cell signal it also is handy to have something to lay on & wet wipes to clean parts & yourself.Cheers.
Always look for corrosion at the metal contacts when disconnecting connectors. For air bag issues try cleaning the disconnected connectors with contact cleaner. The cheap yellow connectors can move a little which can cause low voltages from fine dust. After cleaning use zip ties to keep the connectors from moving.
I have a 99 lumina 3.1 and for oil light reset I press the accelerator 3 or 4 times as quick as possible within 7 seconds and it works, I suggest just press your pedal twice as quick once you determine the tps being good, Nice video!
I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado W/T regular cab long bed 4x4 v6 5 speed, I factory ordered it and few months later on 4/20/2004 it came in, its my daily driver with 98,000 miles.
The trick is to turn the ignition off quickly after the third press of the accelerator. Let it sit abt 5 seconds. Then start the vehicle and cycle to the oil change part in the menu. It should clear. Been my experience.
He doesn’t have to change the airbag sensors, just,a small device that is mountedto the bottom of the rad support, they get damaged from parking, farm drives etc
@@johntaylor4894 yes that may be possibly a drive by wire unit as I didn’t recall seeing the throttle cable under the hood on the throttle body like mine has, the gas pedal itself on that truck migh have an actual electronic encoder attached to the pivoting part.
I know that the Engine Oil Life reset does not work when the Fuel Level Low message is active. It seems the computer can't walk and chew gum at the same time. I'm convinced anything active on the driver information system can possibly prevent the oil life monitor from resetting. Except the Service Airbag message. Resets just fine with that message active.
Im at 11:39 and 3 times I've thought, "wait for the m essage to show, then try full throttle 3 times". I'll continue and will learn something, either way.
On a Holden LS1 cable throttle car when changing the throttle position sensor disconnect (or leave disconnected) new sensor, power up the car which will then error, power off, connect sensor, power on and ecu (standard GM ecu) will the recalibrate sensor as you operate the pedal. This allows for some mechanical alignment errors between sensors. Older tech actually had mechanical position adjustment to set matching throttle.
I got a much similar truck, mine is ‘99 the first year of that design - 4.3 5spd shortbox but mine is RWD, I had similar issues with that tps at one time, I just keep pressing on the throttle hard maybe 5 times and it finally blinks and resets. My display is slightly different as the message appears in the upper left in yellow - I have since replaced that tps despite not really seeing anything wrong with the one that was there. iI ended up having some issues with broken wires in that harness to the tps, map sensor and ignition coil primary feed - and of course the ignition spider living under the intake. Overall I found that oil life monitor is pretty accurate, if you do alot of short city drives with warm ups etc, it comes on way sooner that if you are venturing out on long highway trips, I don’t even really pay attention to the mileage anymore, I just do the oil when the monitor says. I found the pinging went away when I swapped out the dist ass’y, the original plastic one was pretty ugly I used an aftermarket aluminum one it was like a different engine - I learned when I first got the truck that the 87 octane was not friendly with it and use 89. Maybe the fact that the airbag code is set, it is proprietary for the monitor because it is a “safety” code
The 2006 Chevy van we had at work, you had to have break pedal depressed then mash gas pedal 3 time to get oil change to rest. I don't know if it's the same?
When your the kind of guy who goes on vacation, drives miles across the Country - to do what you do all week with what you can find in someone else's kitchen draw - to put an incorrect oil light at start up out... And makes it worse... I feel your pain.....
I had a 2005 gmc jimmy with the same engine and transmission. It was a good little rig. But I don’t know why gm put a small gas tank in it. I had to plane long road trips well or carry a fuel can.
Push the lil nob on the IC, scroll till you get to your oil % then Hold it down till it says 100% again. Holding it longer will decrease the % by 10 every tick.
im 66 years old my truck doesn't tell me when my tires are low or its time to change my oil and guess what i can see a low tire and i can remember to change my oil. i will never face that problem
Take the battery cables off, clamp together for a few minutes. but that will reset all your IM's and everything else and will take a lot of driving to get them on line again.
Now Kenny, I'm talking thru my screen. You aren't suppose to be a parts replacer. lol I hope you don't find out that it's just because you put on a China part. lol Can we make anything in America any more?
Low input, power from the computer to the sensor is meeting too much resistance, lowering vsd. If voltage from the computer is 3 volts from the computer before the resistance, you can not get an accurate signal.
Usually your vids are pretty Good. This one not impressive. Instead of checking the sensors with a meter or lab Scope. You just throw parts ai it. And junk chinese ones at that. I ran my shop for 40 years. You should know better And make a video showing it??
Kenny is an honest man. He knowsbetter, but like a lot us, does worse...and shows it right out front. We all learn from Kenny, from his fixes and the ones he has to fix again. Now, who hasn't had to take the 5ime to go back and fix it right?
So, you say that you have had this Truck for 5 years and essentially done nothing but change the oil. And yet somehow, you all of a sudden forgot how to reset the Oil Life to 100 % ? You are too spoiled by that fancy-dancy Snappy Scan Tool. After waiting for the bells & whistles to stop the light and sound show after turning the Ignition switch to the KOEO position, press the Accelerator Pedal 5 times in 10 seconds, then turn off the Ignition Switch for 30 seconds. Also, OBDII Scan Tools will NEVER clear Faults with the Engine Running. Ain't gonna happen ! They will ONLY clear in the KOEO position. THAT is a fact !🤑

love a stick shift so rare now a days .
Kenney I love your videos. It's a gm, do it twice key on the whole time, and turn key wait 5 secs or so then work the peddle. KEEP WRENCHIN!

I never had any luck buying those sensors online. Always have to by og

I remember some models had a button in the underhood fuse box to reset the light. I used to hate trying to reset the pedal operated resets.
I love this channel 😊

You have a rare car sir.
My 04 has the 4.3 215k and runs like new great engine

That’ll be interesting to see what you come up with on it. Hope you make a video on changing the air bag sensors.

Always keep a bag of tools and code reader 50.00 cost in your floor back seat .
did you try checking the resistance of the old vs new sensor to see if there is a difference when you move it from one end of scale to another?
When you turn the key you have to wait for the change oil message before you press the gas pedal three times.
Ya I just keep mashinh mine until the message flashes a few times and then it is reset

Replaced the tps on my wife's s10 then the torque converter blew up. Now I'm looking for a 4l60e
I snapped the male on the sensor. It was easily removed with a deck screw. Give that a try next time.
The 2006 Chevy van we had at work, you had to have break pedal depressed then mash gas pedal 3 time to get oil change to rest. I don't know if it's the same?
Nice trouble shooting segment & breakdown of what it could be.
Just replace parts till it's fixed. No troubleshooting required. Low voltage was a clue
I'm wondering if there is another sensor sharing the same 5 volt ref and causing that issue with the TPS sensor

Part 2 , you are welcome. (Spoiler Alert: it's not what you thought😁)

I have had three gm trucks with that 4.3 and they all pinged if I ran 87 in them
Down The Rabbit Hole// Good Luck.
That is a nice area. Where is it, generally?
im 66 years old my truck doesn't tell me when my tires are low or its time to change my oil and guess what i can see a low tire and i can remember to change my oil. i will never face that problem
Until Alzheimer's sets in
That's just wrong
Throttle pedal position sensor not tps
You drive A Chevrolet right? You should always have a set of tools with you!!!
That looks like a Ham Radio callsign in stickers under your keys on your dash. Am I wrong?
😎👍😎
after pumping throttle 3 times you turn key off and back on
Take the battery cables off, clamp together for a few minutes. but that will reset all your IM's and everything else and will take a lot of driving to get them on line again.
Kenny do you buy parts from rockauto?
Grandpa why did you come all the way to our house just to work on your truck???
Now Kenny, I'm talking thru my screen. You aren't suppose to be a parts replacer. lol I hope you don't find out that it's just because you put on a China part. lol Can we make anything in America any more?
Only drag queens....
i thought it was a evap code not a map code
Just wondering maybe it wasn't reseting because the tps had not gone thru a cycle.
Can you up your volume some of your videos are hard to hear
Gas pedal, 3 full strokes. It may need 5 strokes

stop. you're gonna flood it . . .
I believe there is a TPS reset or relearn that needs to be done
Usually your vids are pretty Good. This one not impressive. Instead of checking the sensors with a meter or lab Scope. You just throw parts ai it. And junk chinese ones at that. I ran my shop for 40 years. You should know better And make a video showing it??
exactly this!!!! OEM only for sensors

made in china
