Yeah, i would like to see this as a returning podcast, with a track day or other long drive as the 'special' of the season.
There's just the right amount of competition, lighthearted ribbing and genuine affection between these guys

No matter how many times I see it, I can’t not burst out laughing when Kennan slowly takes his time getting out of his M5. The Jazz music makes it even better.

Doug being hyper-competitive is the "thing we never knew about Doug." And for the record, Sam was the fastest. The clock doesn't lie.

My first track day it was a training day; 6 sessions, 4 with an instructor and the last 2 at your own pace optionally with an instructor should you wish to. The hardest thing to get into my head was letting the engine be at the upper 3rd of the rev range permanently. Not something I was used to while going on the road hahaha

Agreed Nick is much too Pedantic. Always disagreeing with everyone. This discussion would be much better off without him. He is full of it to be sure, add to that his annoying high pitched voice. So annoying!

^^ The way he goes about it all is just so annoying. It’s like when Mr. Bean talks with his nasally voice then with all his disagreeable demeanor. Perhaps if he toned it way down. More people have said this about him. Kenyon has all the technical content we need.
If you don’t see that you must either be him or be nicks family, so you are biased. Trying to make him a permanent thing on this channel and this will cost Cars & Bids or Doug viewers big time.
This is a great exercise and reflection. If you don't have the psychological strength to push your own car around the track to at least 8/10, maybe this car isn't for you. Especially if the reason is money. Or maybe you shouldn't track it and just keep it if it's engaging enough on the road.
This is probably why we see so many amazing low-mileage cars for sale over the decades. Probably wasn't their initial goal, but the car has become so expensive that they're afraid to drive it.

Want to see Pobst take a lap in the CGT, 981 spyder and A class for reference. Wonder if the boxster is raster than the CGT in more capable hands. If so that is pretty impressive current generation 718 is quite a bit faster than 981 as well.
The CGT with modern tyres and suspension is probably faster than any factory cars lapped when it was new. Surely in the hands of Randy it's faster than the cute Cayman?
CGT with Randy and new tires, new KW V5 suspension is tough to beat.

Since more modern tires make better times. And having an 981 spyder know the pirellis are worst than michelin ps4s on that car.
And in comparison the 718 spyder uses cup2 tires which are helpful.
But the 718 is more of a track car and 981 is canyon carver.
Would like to see doug review on 981 spyder.
You all should have done fast laps in the fastest car, in this case the 981 Spyder!
I assumed renting a track would’ve been at least double that. My first track day was $600+ That’s a pretty reasonable price to just rent a track with a few friends if you have cars that expensive.
Motortrend found that the 718 Spyder was slightly faster around the figure 8 than the Carrera GT….

The possible difference in skill level even when you're «just driving a car» is immense. I remember in old Top Gear when Rubens Barichello came along and kicked the Stig's ass at his own home track in the Suzuki Liana I was amazed! The Dunsfold Aerodrome was a track that the Stig (himself a professional racing driver) had driven hundreds and hundreds of times, and Barichello probably just got a handful of tries.
And then a string of other F1 drivers did the same thing…
yes! I was thinking the same thing. What was amazing is when Lewis Hamilton showed up and beat the other drivers by over a second in the wet!
I would love a video of Kenan at a rally school. Best way to learn car control.
Thinner oil for track use? Erm... That would be odd. Unless it's really cold and you're not warming the car up well before a push lap?
The E39 engine powered many DP wins in IMSA including many 24 hours wins! The most motorsports engine of the group!

A CGT without engine would be a fun project, sad as missing the engine would be. Need 600 hp, but something light? Do something nice for Koenigsegg and then ask for the 3-cyl 70 kg engine and 9 spd gearbox. All you lose is the revs, but revving it will anyway, having no flywheel and being FreeValve (no camshaft and such). With 9 speeds, you don't even need torque. Traction control would be very nice to have.

Doug, is your GT affected by the same issues as the UK cars? Apparently they are uninsurable and thus undriveable until Porsche AG source new suspension components.
I believe he just upgraded the suspension. Insurance definitely exists for then, registration is presumably a nonissue bc murica🇺🇲🇺🇲

I don't know. I've watched Doug's videos for awhile now. With the "The Big Dawg" or in the last video where he said his garage pick was the best several times, I think he's let his success get to his head a bit.

Nah, he's been this (tongue in cheek) cocky from the beginning, although maybe his success makes him more confident in it when he does it now, but i don't think he changed.
He's always been like that, go watch old podcast appearances. He hasn't done much content with other people at all, he's mostly a solo content producer.

typical track day has 4-6 20 min sessions. Maybe they make you do a ton of nonsense on the first outing, but in general you get decent seat time. Just need 4 miatas amd y'all be good
Should have taken the alternator out of the back before anyone drove the Mercedes otherwise there is always an asterisk cause that would certainly screw up your lap
There is a problem with the audio. A hiss and it's been there for a while now. Not only in this video but in others too.
We rewired everything, fixed now.
Technically the CGT is a faster car than the 718 based on nurburgring times... Soooo Sam is the fastest driver beating a faster car in a slower car

If ever doing it again, maybe buying cheap cars for the purpose, would eliminate that feeling of fear that something goes wrong, and it would be fun to whatch!

How did you rent out a track and NOT bring Randy to begin with? Would that have moved the needle so much on the cost?
Track rental is not insanely out of reach. No idea what Randy would charge to attend.
Regarding the organized track day (HPDE) comment, Doug couldnt be more wrong here. People who think theyre too good for the classroom instruction and limited passing sessions are the worst part of any track day, and are generally not the fastest drivers out there. Everyone who goes fast on track was once doing a lead-follow session or going over the track map in the classroom, and they get this.. it's how you learn. The instruction is only for novice drivers usually anayway, and if you think you have what it takes to skip all that instruction and just go into an advanced group, you can go do a check ride, and an instructor will ride along with you and make sure you're ready for it. Go try HPDE before you knock it, there will be miatas passing all of you

I'm sorry Nick bu5t I have to disagree Max Vertappen is not a less tier driver than Lewis Hamilton :) And yes you are not supposed to break and turn but you need to trail brake and keep the front of the car loaded as you turn, the trick is balancing the car throughout the corner on the edge of oversteer, That's much harder to do on road tires though!

That is kinda what they do.. same boring design, and it keeps getting better.
If you guys ever do anything like this again, please get the same tires on all the cars and give each driver more than 1 hot lap to dial in. I understand that this is not a scientific test it was more for fun, but you all clearly care a lot about the bragging rights haha. The vid was really fun but 1 hot lap in a car owned by Doug is not really the best way to find who is fastest, and now after all the trash talk I really want to know!

What car did Sam drove? Did they even mention it? I am trying to figure it out.
I am half watching and listening (working), got to "Sam's Progress" and all references are "Sam's car", "best car here", but other cars they refer it to Ford GT, Carrea GT, M5....but every reference to Sam's car, it's Sam's car....even the timeline reference....It's Carrera GT, M5, Murcielago, Ford GT...and "Sam Progressed Quickly", with no reference to what car Sam drove.
The entire segment on Sam's driving didn't mention what car he drove. Even Sam refers it to it as "my car", and everyone refers it as "Sam's car" but everyone else refers to their own cars with its name..."My M5, My Murcielago, My Carrera GT".
edit - got to the end, at 57min 53 seconds, there is a mention of Boxster Spyder?
On Doug's channel there is a whole video with Sam driving his Spyder.
