I have Virgin TV, but I have the V6 box, not the slow TiVo box. It was probably nice back then but still slow. I hate the slowness! I love the fast V6 box way more than the TiVo box.
tivo is simply awsome and beats sky hands down i was staying at a friends house for 2 days and she had tivo as soon as i got home i rang up virgin media and cant wait to get my own tivo subscription :)
I've switched from sky plus to TiVo and get a HD package for less than I was paying sky for a standard definition package and what could possibly be the slowest broadband in the world. However, the user environment of the TiVo box needs work, and you will find yourself having to press more buttons than you would expect to do operations. I hope it will improve over time as it has the potential to blow sky clean out of the water
Yes, they have a traffic management policy which means heavy caps placed on line speed. Funnily enough they don't advertise that and its only once you've discovered it yourself and you're already in contract before you realise its too late!!
had sky+ was okay but got tivo now. such a great improvement. at first had to use but so easy now and fluent. apps are great and on demand content. the display is so crisp and clear. would recommend tivo!
Virgin's traffic management is only enabled if you go above a set limit. Currently that is 2.5Gb for 30Mb, 5GB for 60Mb and 10GB for 100MB. Although there is a trial taking place that will, if successful: Increase the download limit before before traffic management is enabled. Reduce the amount of time the traffic management is active for. Reduce the impact of the cap. I am currently getting my full 10Mb, and even with a 50% throttle I am still getting better speeds than my mum on her ADSL.
Hard drive capacity??? Prices of boxes??? Bundles??? Packages??? Non of this was mentioned in my own opinion sky are dominating simply because of the 2tb box although the broadband is a little slow there back on track now they have fibre optic service
They really need to redo this comparison, now that sky has released there enhanced sky guide with proper on demand and seven day catch up, as well as the sky +app that let's you control your tv as well as the soon to launch planner sharing there really isn't as great a difference between sky and virgin. The main one I can think of is speed and the extra tuner, although with catchup it's not as nessiserry.
I have had sky for years and my friend has tivo and it is great so next week I'm getting TiVo with a vbox in 2 rooms me and my sister and broadband for £50 for the 1st year
I have had Tivo since 2012, and some things are good, but there are some bad things. The box is slow, very clunky feeling to it. The remote seems that bit poor compared to Sky's. Yes you can watch TH-cam, BBC IPlayer, but it is so slow. The TH-cam app is very slow. The BBC Iplayer on Tivo is terrible. Virgin say that they give you a separate 10MB connection for on-demand, but even with that TH-cam videos never play properly. BBC Iplayer is dreadful, buffering all the time. At least with Sky you use your own broadband connection. The Tivo interface looks good to start with. But it is so slow when looking through the tv guide. The design just doesn't look right, compared to Sky's EPG. Also if there are any schedule changes that are made suddenly by broadcasters Virgin Tivo does not update the schedule, unlike Sky. On Demand content is good, but trying to watch it is a nightmare! Slow, slow, slow, and when you try rewind or fast forward it is not the same function as rewind/fastforward on your tivo recordings. Also they do not advertise Sky programmes very well. Finally, Virgin Tivo is provided by cable so you would think that the signal quality would be perfect, NO!! My signal quality varies so much, with pixelation now and again. Virgin engineers have come out, checked my signal levels and couldn't find anything wrong. They told me that is the best you are going to get! Within a year I noticed signal issues, something I never had an issue with Sky. So that is my review of Tivo, and I am going back to Sky, had enough of Tivo. It has some good aspects, but I feel Sky is simplier, quick, easy and with there updates and on-demand now I feel it is worthwhile going back.
Getting Sky HD in just over 1 week. Looking forward to it.
Virgin TiVo software has been improved so much,it is way faster then before
This is true. And all screens now in HD too!
All information is available on their website. If you don't do your own due diligence then you only have yourself to blame.
he wont change his mind he likes sky.

I take it that everyone singing the praises of virgin broadband know that its capped by 50% between 10am-3pm and 75% between 3pm-10pm?
