@johnmonk66 the writers created Doomsday to kill Superman. In the lore, Doomsday was created by the alien scientist Bertron to be the ultimate lifeform, but his survivability tests were cruel and trained it at a genetic level to fear, hate, and desire to kill all life.
At this point in time Batman is already weathered and paranoid. The “Joke’s On You” suit belonged to Robin. So this is a Batman that has stopped pulling his punches on criminals.
@@davidmorgan6896 Most people haven’t met Robin since Batman & Robin (1997) was his last appearance in a live action film. So, a lot of folks probably wouldn’t have even noticed that suit was Robin’s, especially with the dark color grading in the film. Most of the audiences of these films aren't big DC fans like ourselves. So it's pretty easy to miss and we could've even gotten a flashback, like Under the Red Hood.
@LittleGalaxyBoy I would agree with you if you were talking about The Flash, but most people know who Robin is, even if they don't know much about him; other than his relationship to Batman. From watching reaction videos,j I see many people only watch films at a very superficial level and need to be spoonfed narrative details.
Just missed at 17:13, but after Bruce wakes up, you can see one last sheet of paper floating down. A mere dream or nightmare doesn't move real objects. That disturbance was caused by an actual intrusion from a possible future implanting a prescient vision in Bruce's mind.
I always thought that because the brain has so much electric activity between neurons, I feel like the speed force (having all that electricity) can affect the brain in some capacity. This was one of them. Having a doorway to the future opened in front of you taps you into it

And this is why I always argue that ZSJL proved that Snyder understood that these characters needed time on scree before a Justice League movie. The only reason ZSJL is so long is because WB refused to give Snyder the time that he knew he needed to introduce characters.
A little thing for Addie, Cyborg is an especially big member of a team called the Teen Titans (at least prior to certain narrative changes to the universe) in the source material. If you really want to see an especially good showing of him, I’d recommend you watch the 2000s Teen Titans cartoon.
"If you seek his monument look around" is actually from Christopher Wren's tomb. A famous architect. Snyder's love for architecture really shows in this film with that quote & Bruce's cave & house.
It’s a common misconception, but they don’t bond because their mothers have the same name. Batman was a moment away from ending Superman, and both of them knew it. And in his last moment, Superman begged Batman to save someone else. And at first, it made Batman mad, because he’d built Superman up in his mind as this completely alien being, but when Lois points out that Martha is the name of Clark’s mom, Batman has a ‘My god, what have I done’ moment of clarity.
@LuckySmurf because in Batman’s eyes, Superman is just a dangerous alien that needs to be put down. Saying ‘save my mom’ wouldn’t have done anything. The idea that Superman even HAS a human mother is a concept Batman hasn’t even considered. And Superman knows this. He knows how Batman feels. Batman has spent the better part of their interaction (this fight particularly) verbally dehumanizing him. Beyond that, the entire film itself has Clark feeling more and more separated from the world and feeling like an outcast. Not even an hour previously, Lex Luthor, who has a very similar view of Superman as Batman does, referred to Martha as Clark’s mother exactly twice. •”Every boy’s special lady is his mother.” •”But the mother of a flying demon must be a witch.” The rest of the time he exclusively uses Martha’s name, because like Batman, he views Clark as an alien, and while he knows Clark cares enough for Martha for her to be an exploitable weakness, he doesn’t view the mortal woman as actually the ‘god’s’ mother. Batman is the same way. Clark needed to make Martha an actual named person, rather than some vague, nebulous, possibly deceptive concept of ‘my mother,’ and it probably wouldn’t have worked if Lois, another human, hadn’t shown up to spell it out for the enraged Dark Knight. Tl;dr Batman is so far gone that Martha has to be humanized for him, and saying ‘save my mom’ would have resulted in a stabbed Superman.
@@LuckySmurf saying martha works better because it calls to that child that was smothered out by the existence of his "batman" persona. bruce wayne has never been a real person but a charade, a mask. bruce all but died that night in the alley and the batman was born. his whole story is the struggle of batman consuming what is left of that boy with a few like alfred continuosly bringing attention to who he was supposed to be had batman never come to be. hearing martha touched that bit of bruce left just enough to grant a moment of humanity and let him realize what he has done. people who see batman as a face value man in a mask miss how deep this moment was. batman above all is a psycological struggle of a hero....now all that aside he cant say his "mom" that would be him saying hes clark kent lol
Great reaction! You could watch Wonder Woman and aquaman next, they’re a lot of fun, but I’d watch Snyders justice league first, it’s the true sequel to BvS. Even at four hours it goes by so quickly and as it’s in segments you can def review it in two or three videos. Stay clear of the joss Whedon movie except for a hate watch , it has issues.
You need to watch Justice League next, but for full context it has to be the Snyder Cut. Yes, it's about 4 hours long, but the theatrical release version just won't give you the full vision of this entire story. If you liked this, the Snyder Cut is the perfect close to the story.
@@tosweet68 I suppose it would help for backstory with Themiscyra, but only to the same level she'd need to watch Aquaman before JL as well. I don't think it's totally necessary, but it's a bit helpful.
I kinda hope she doesn't. The Synder cut has more in it, but it makes each of the characters even worse people (which is absolutely Synder). Joss Whedon, for all his personal faults, made a much better version of Synder's movie that actually had some humor and hope in it. It still wasn't "good", but it was less bad. Synder is good at making superhero comic panels, where they look awesome in a freeze frame image. He is absolutely horrible at story and character. He hates superheroes and it shows in everything he makes. He sees people as inherently selfish and evil. Hard to believe that and make a superhero that isn't basically a villain.
In 1992 I bought 3 copies of The Death Of Superman. One for my friend one for me to read and one to keep sealed. It came in a black cellophane bag with a poster of the Justice League carrying his coffin followed by every superhero in the DC Universe and some supervillains. It also came with a cardboard black armband with the Superman logo on it.
LMFAO! All the "is he dead? is he dead?" You poor unfortunate soul, when Superman died in the comics, it was one of, if not THE biggest thing in the world at the time. All the news outlets were even covering it.
If you think this was even close to "the biggest thing in the world" while the 1992 election, the Rodney King riots, the breakup of Yugoslavia and the multinational intervention in Somalia were going on, you might be a manchild with no connection to the real world.
It was a slow news day otherwise, so it was all over the news channels. Also he was dead for a whole year...and with 4 Superman titles running, as well in tie ins, there is a whole shortbox full of JUST "Death of/Funeral For a Friend/Reign of the Supermen" issues.
@@davidmeloche3563 It wasn't a whole year. It was more like 9 months and Superman was brought back about 8 months in. It was a hell of a fake out though. The Death of Superman Trilogy is still my all-time favorite Superman storyline and that's really saying something.
In the comic, Bruce Wayne brought in contractors from small 3rd world countries to build the Batcave. They had no idea what city they were in. And Lucius Fox and his son build all of Batman's vehicles and gadgets.
@theylied1776 Harold Allnut had that role in the 1990s. Lucius Fox as Batman's 'Q' is relatively recent (I think it might have been the Nolan movies that first introduced that side of him) - the character was first introduced in the late 1970s and originally he just worked the business end of Wayne Enterprises (also introduced at the end of the 1970s).
@IainGibson-h9h Okay newbie, Lucius Fox has been Batman's engineer, not "Q", which is incorrect because Q means quartermaster, since 1979 that is 46 years. Lucius Fox is a mechanical, electrical, and structural engineer. He conceives and builds all of Batman's equipment. What else you got?
The big scary creature that the trio fights is Doomsday who did appear in the comics debuting in the infamous “Death of Superman” storyline. The covers were iconic!
"The Future has taken root in the Present". Superman's revival in ZSJL ensured that the Knightmare future would happen regardless of what they did next. Fortunately, Barry's Flashpoint shenanigans in *The Flash* soft rebooted the film series (certain elements remain the same while while others significantly changed), unknowingly sparing everyone of that fate.
I’m one of the few that really like this movie and was excited to see Snyder’s vision of the DC universe, but we really needed a Man of Steel 2 before Superman’s death. It would have just meant more.
Sorry to say, Superman dies to Doomsday in every medium. It was a classic story from the '90s. There's an animated 2 movie set that covers the story pretty well. You'll love Wonder Woman and Justice League. Make sure to watch the Snyder Cut of Justice League.
10:09 both Gotham and Metropolis were based on New York City, but in two entirely different ways. So the best way to present it for film is to do a mirror of Oakland/San Francisco on the east coast.
I’ll say Gotham is mostly based of Chicago especially since they use the Crain Communications Building, formerly known as Smurfit-Stone Building and Stone Container Building
Gotham and Metropolis are usually depicted as being on opposite ends of the Delaware Bay. Since Gotham City is always within New Jersey and Metropolis in Delaware itself. Therefore both cities are actually fairly close and can actually see each other distantly with Gotham to the North and Metropolis to the South.
The pearls at the murder of Bruce Wayne's parents are from Frank Miller's interpretation of Batman-- The Dark Knight Returns and Batman Year One. All the Batman movies pay homage to the comic book work of Miller. Great video. Happy New Year.
@@Objective_Piece8285 It's so sad how so many hate on Snyder's Superman for being "a god" when this scene is right there directly showing the answer to his character, to who Superman is, who he always is in all of media, including the Snyderverse, given on a silver platter for all audiences.
@@lucas.n.carvalho.artist It would probably be easier for people to remember that scene if it weren’t for the sheer number of ‘got him wrong’ scenes covering it up and drawing everyone’s attention…
@02:05 Ever since Frank Miller wrote his version of the origin of THE BATMAN, there have been pearls included in subsequent retellings. @10:07 Only for this film. Traditionally; Gotham is more like Chicago in geographic placement and style, and Metropolis is more like Manhattan. @16:04 This is a "flash forward" for what was supposed to be the third film in the Justice League series. IT WAS NEVER PRODUCED. @17:22 The aspect ratio changes from time to time because parts of this film were shot in IMAX. @46:44 His name is Cyborg. He was created by my friend Marv Wolfman, and George Perez.
I was just recalling that, too. Where did the pearls scattering enter the Batman origin canon? That's what I thought it was, too. Miller & Mazzuchelli's Batman Year One. It makes a good metaphor for young Bruce's whole world instantly coming apart. However, IRL it wouldn't happen, it's just another bit that requires our suspension of disbelief. A woman watching one of these live action depictions once told me that when a pearl neckace breaks only ONE pearl falls free, and all the others stay on the two remaining pieces of string. The makers of pearl necklaces know strings do break, and to keep the pearls from being lost, there are knots in the string between each pair of pearls... not visible because they are in small recessions in the pearls. Oh well. The scattering pearls make for a good, dramatic metaphor anyway, even if fictional. It's comics, after all.
That was true (their locations) up to around New 52. I don't remember if that's specifically when it changed, or just before/just after it started. But now Metropolis is supposed to be Manhattan, while Gotham is Trenton or Newark, and Bludhaven (Nightwing-Adult Dick Grayson Robin) is Jersey City. But yeah, it used to be Metropolis-Chicago, Gotham-NYC.
One of the biggest problems with this movie is that Zack Snyder was forced by WB to drop his plans for a sequel to MoS in favor of this attempt to speed load Justice League and try to catch up to Marvel. Snyder's original plan for the sequel was for Superman to learn from the events of the first movie, and develop the code that turned him into the big blue boyscout, the beacon of hope for the world similar to what Christopher Reeve portrayed.
IMO it was a huge disservice to both Superman the character and Henry Cavill the actor that he never got to play a more straight-up, positive, mostly angst-free version of the character. Because I think he would have totally nailed something without all the darkness, and his legacy as Superman would be so much better than what this film series has made it.
@bartlebyscrivener2980 yeah, and it didn't help that audiences were already suffering from "dark and gritty" fatigue, except with Batman where that's the inherent tone anyway. That's why the MCU was doing so well, and why the only truly successful DCEU movies were Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Shazam, they all kept a lighter overall tone for escapist fun everyone could enjoy, rather than trying to make realism that everyone could relate to, which is virtually impossible these days.
honestly, MoS was not gritty but this was and I kinda liked it. I think the tone made it more serious and not just a typical happy go lucky guy for whom daily planet writes puff piece editorials after he saves cats from trees.
Part 2. Here’s a little of the story, back in 2017 Snyder lost his daughter Autumn due to suicide, while he was mourning and still working to finish his project Warner Started to push changes to his movie when he already did after BvS, when he couldn’t handle the pressure and demands cause he didn’t have the energy to fight back Warner to respect his movie he decided to leave the JL post production, at the time the movie was already shot and almost finished, to sum up, to avoid rumors and bad press WB made him say he brought Joss Whedon a Marvel director, from the avengers 1, to “finish the film” then it was announced it was going under some reshoots and the fans noticed something was off and went crazy cause reshoots equals disasters, we were right, they took advantage of Snyder’s situation and ended up changing like 85% of the original movie, Eventually Snyder told us he was forced to say that he brought Whedon in when he didn’t even had a say in it, some messed up problems during the reshoots came to the light by the actors like Wonder Woman who had her career threatened by Whedon, Cyborg who claimed racist comments and that the president of WB ignored the complaints and other stuff like Affleck saying it was one of the worst experiences ever etc.
Whedon is an ass superheroes director I don't why he directs superheroes movies like that .I will always hate him for the josstice league and destroying ultron characterization in avengers 2 that character was Thanos level awesome he made him shit jokey comedian not a dangerous villain
IMO as a 40+ year reader of DC a number of these movies were better than far too many gave them credit for. I'd say, see Wonder Woman next, then Justice League (Snyder cut) it's long but the theatrical release was crap. Then Suicide Squad, Aquaman, The Suicide Squad and stop. Everything else involved was complete trash.
Hi Addie, I did a video essay on "Bruce Wayne's Psychological Arc in Batman v Superman" that particularly delves into the rich visual storytelling in this film.
When I first saw this movie, I thought it was alright but didn't hit the same as MoS. Glad the Ultimate Cut was released because it really did add some missing context to a lot of scenes and it felt far more interesting. Hope you do get around to watching the Snyder Cut of the Justice League, 4 hours seems like a lot but it is well worth it in my opinion just to wrap up this storyline.
1:05 - Well Addie, this movie was originally supposed to be 2 separate movies. BvS - Enter the Dark Knight. And then BvS - Dawn of Justice. These two movies was supposed to setup Justice League, that's how Zack Snyder and Chistopher Nolan envisioned it. But the studio interfered and made them changed it into 1 single movie. That's why the movie is so long. Because its a condensed script of two movies, not one.
Steppenwolf was also first meant to be the villain of Suicide Squad, which was also meant to be Snyder's film. There was a ton of studio interfering in Snyder's universe. People act like it was all his fault when already after Man of Steel he was cut out from most of the decisions.
That's a myth. It was never going to be split into two movies. That was just made up for some clickbait article, along with the "info" that Aquaman was going to be in the Suicide Squad movie. Three hours isn't really that long for a movie. "Return of the King" was that long, theatrical.
46:07 That suit was actually Robin’s, Joker killed in this universe, confirmed by Zack Snyder to be Dick Grayson, the first Robin. In the comics, though, it’s Jason Todd, the second Robin, who gets killed by the Joker, as depicted in A Death in the Family. I guess they didn’t want any versions of Robin showing up in this film. It would’ve been cool to see Dick Grayson as Nightwing, which is the hero he becomes after growing up and stepping out of Batman’s shadow. That’s why Jason becomes the new Robin. As a character, Robin has been greatly side-lined which is such a shame since he's so important to the development of Batman as a character and is a key character himself. It’s a shame we never actually got to see any of this, because it could’ve really helped people understand this version of Batman more. You can’t just introduce a Batman who kills and is more jaded without fans pushing back, especially since that’s such a big shift for the character. Batman’s no-kill rule is iconic, just like Superman’s, which he broke in Man of Steel. So it's just something that needed more development.
Would be cool if they made a prequel with Affleck again as Batman and show A Death In The Family storyline. Chalamet's the right age I believe to play Dick Grayson. And maybe they could bring in whoever is the Joker in Arkham Asylum at the end of The Batman.
@@KyleCollins-ny4em What a weird idea. If they were ever going to visit the Snyderverse version with Affleck, why would they use any Joker that isn't Jared Leto? The reception of his Joker in Suicide Squad was poor but Snyder showed us a small taste of how good he could have been in his cut of JL.
The no-kill thing is really dumb, Batman kills all the time it is just that the writers never show the consequences of his actions. I mean, Keaton's Batman gleefully shoves a bomb down a henchman's pants and nobody bats an eye and still call him the best Batman. Also, I've always been curious how many people has Batman killed due to blunt-force trauma, how many have become paraplegic or are in a coma because of him?
@@TheBlond49For real? So a terrorist clown who continues to escape from an asylum to commit mass murder on a monthly basis is the same as a robber who killed the Wayne's because he was panicked? I agree that Joe Chill shouldn't be killed, but people like the Joker need to be. And if Batman fears he becomes batshit crazy (no pun intended) if he kills just one single person who without a doubt deserves it, this confirms that he's just as crazy as the Joker (seeing as how that is the explanation for the existence of the Batman Who Laughs, who is a terrible character, btw), maybe he should quit being Batman and leave the job to people of more sound mind, like Red Hood.
Happy New Year, Addie! 🎆🎆 In case you're wondering why the aspect ratio is different for some scenes in the movie, then those scenes were shot with 15-perf/70mm IMAX film cameras. Sir Christopher Nolan, who was executive producer of this movie and Man of Steel (2013), used them to shoot sequences in The Dark Knight (2008), The Dark Knight Rises (2012), Interstellar (2014), Dunkirk (2017), Tenet (2020) and Oppenheimer (2023). He's going to use a next generation of IMAX film cameras on his upcoming film The Odyssey (2026) with Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron.
I didn't know what Nolan is up to currently, and dammnnn... Odyssey sounds gooood. I'm looking forward to that now. Btw it's thought archeologists have found the RL Odysseus' tomb and actual remains. I'd normally such a claim is bullshit, but a docu on PBS I watched two or three months ago makes quite a strong case. His town and capitol wasn't on the island currently named Ithaka after all, but on an island immediately west of that one. Addie: Nolan's Dunkirk is excellent.
@bartlebyscrivener2980 I've been trying to get Addie to watch Dunkirk (2017). That's one of my all-time favorite Christopher Nolan movies. She's gonna feel on edge after that one. #DunkirkForAddieCounts
My favorite parts of this movie is the investigations each Characters, Clark, Bruce, and Lois are doing. I thought those were the most interesting parts of the movie.
Batman is definitely more of a detective in this movie than he was in the *entire* Dark Knight trilogy. He clones people's phones, he places trackers, he goes undercover at galas and fight clubs, he digs into backgrounds, everything.
This movie, among other stories, adapts loosely the famous storyline "The death of Superman" from the early 90´s that got a lot of coverage from the media. In that story Superman also fights an unstoppable monster of kryptonian origin called Doomsday, but it comes from a genetic experiment rather than from the corpse of General Zod. I don´t think it is a spoiler saying that Superman resurrected later in the storyline called "The resurrection of Superman".
I'm an old school comics fan. I geeked out during the apocalyptic (no pun intended) dream sequence. Seeing the parademons of Darkseid on the big screen is something I would never see.
Canonically, Metropolis is in Delaware, and Gotham is in New Jersey. They are across the bay from each other. In the comics there is eventually a bridge that connects the two cities. It's so long it took Nightwing 2 hours to cross it on his motorcycle.
I like the uncut too but only one thing i would have like like like that they kept into this one and that's at the beginning when Superman arrives it cuts to him thunderously flying down from the clouds with angelic like ahh music theme and you should go watch that it really is awe the way he appears
Late reply to this vid, but I was working in a movie theater when BvS came out in 2016, and one day, I was a ticket taker and had a crowd come out of one of the showings after it ended. Naturally I hear people talk about it and one of them was this grandmother who was talking to her grandchildren and said how she came in expecting Batman and Superman, but didn’t expect Xina Warrior Princess. I pipped in and said that was Wonder Woman, and she immediately lit up and shouted “THAT’S WONDER WOMAN?!? When did she get so strong?!?” Still one of my favorite convos from that time.
Saw this film in theatres years ago, i thought it was such a great intricate film. A whole chess game concocted by Lex Luthor until the big showdown. Beautiful film, great reaction!

@@AlexanderLunariusG7 I’d personally take the Hackman and Spacey incarnations (by virtue of feeling less out of place in their respective movies), plus the Clancy Brown, Mark Rolston, John Cryer, and Michael Rosenbaum incarnations (for feeling more faithful to how Lex is supposed to be) over Eisenberg’s any day. But I’ll nonetheless respect your opinion.

4:05 Why would that makes sense? It's not Superman destroying the buildings and killing people. It's Zod. Blaming Superman is like blaming a plumber for fixing broken pipes that are flooding your home. It's ridiculous. The whole premise of this movie is flawed. The idea that the world's greatest detective would blame Superman is silly. Lex's blowing up the senator is a bad way to frame Superman too. Superman doesn't use explosives. Everyone would know that. Lois is ridiculous to turn her back to Lex on top of a building when she was just kidnapped. Everyone in this movie is incredibly stupid.
It's called "guilt by association". How many people today blame all Muslims for what happened on 9/11? It's not about logic, it's about emotion. And yes, this movie was obviously meant to play into 9/11 paranoia. Bruce even makes a Dick Cheney reference with his "1% chance" justification.
@@obredaanps3 Xenophobia and guilt by association are cousins. But whichever one it is, it's meant to set Batman up as the bad guy of the movie. It overrides his rationality (which, let's face it, is not hard to do with Batman), and necessitates him finding something in common with Superman before he can let go of his anger. And no, it's not that their mothers are both named "Martha", it's that Superman's trying to *save* his mother.

I stsrted reading rhe Superman books with The Death of Superman then The Superman replacement storyline that gave us Steele and 90's Superboy ( best Lex/ Supes clone, ever. Connor Kent.), the Eradicator and Cyborg Superman( great villian). Then The Return of Superman. I continued reading for 4 years, then sporatically after. Ed McGuinness ( who started on the Deapool monthly) jumping on art in 1999 made me read it monthly, again for a time.
I read somewhere that in the original origin story for Batman that when Bruce's parents were killed, the pearl necklace didn't break, and the murderer stole them. Some time later, Bruce managed to track them down on the black market. The part about the necklace breaking didn't start until Frank Miller did his Batman origin story.
32:19 I don’t still understand all the hate about this scene. What matters is no coincidence that their mothers share the same first name. That name is both a shock to Bruce, reminding him of his parents' death and allowing him to understand that Clark is human and that he was wrong from the start.
The issue that I have is when faced with immediate danger like that you wouldn’t cream your mom’s name you would scream “Mom”. I think that’s where the hate comes from. If he would’ve said “they’re going to kill my mom” it would’ve have the exact same effect as saying “they’re going to kill Martha”. More so it just makes it more believable
Correct, Bruce was forced to confront Clark's humanity and realized he was in fact, more human than Bruce in many ways and that after 20 years of being Batman and losing everybody he loves (except Alfred) has taken it toll on Bruce's humanity making him the killing machine he was in this movie.
Fun fact: The creature isn't the ACTUAL Doomsday from the comics....That version is out in deep space. The kryptonians managed to capture and banish it after it destroyed one of Kryptons moons (see opening of Man of Steel) 😊
14:20 Superman is not an Alien or a God. He is just a guy from Kansas who's doing the right thing and show people we can do so much better. even if his life is miserable.
Batman: thinks Superman's the villain after seeing the destruction he caused in his fight with Zod also Batman: blows up half of Gotham just driving his Batmobile around
My favorite part of the whole film is Wonder Woman getting hit by Doomsday, and she gives a cocky smirk like it's the first challenging fight she's had in centuries.
I honestly don't find this film all that dark. Hell, Matt Reeve's The Batman is a lot darker. But everyone's got their own perspective. For me, it's a moving examination of survivor's guilt and turning your anger towards the wrong thing.
I highly recommend The Snyder Cut of Justice League for the finale of this series. Basically, the studio didn't like a lot of the things that were done and compeltely cut them out for the theatrical version. Everything you saw while Batman was dreaming makes perfect sense watching Zack Snyder's version of Justice League.
I believe this was the first live action Batman project that credited both Bob Kane and Bill Finger as his creators; previously, it was just Kane, who apparently screwed Finger out of his cut.
This movie is phenomenal. Zack Snyder really said "I'm gonna show people what happens when Batman falls into the abyss that he's been staring into for so long, and then I'm going to have Superman drag him back, not by force, but by showing that he's willing to die to save others. And then, I'm going to have Superman *actually* die to save others." Yes, Superman died in this movie, and yes, he comes back in "Zack Snyder's Justice League". DC Comics tried to off Superman for good in the 90s, but they lost their nerve and brought him back, so a movie where he dies for good was never going to work. Any other superhero, maybe, but not Superman. So Zack said, "Whatever. Since he can't die for good, let's have his temporary death be as real as possible." And it was amazing. I can't wait for you to see ZSJL. (Never ever watch the theatrical version. Ever.)
It’s a shame so little of this was built up. We really should’ve gotten a film with a Silver Age-inspired Batman, one where he’s with Robin, rocking the classic blue and grey suit, in a more hopeful, happier time for the character. Then, they could’ve shown Dick Grayson’s death and how it pushed Batman into the darker, more broken version we see in this film. On top of that, the attack on Metropolis could’ve added even more fuel to his fall years later, tying the end of the Batman film directly into Man of Steel. It would’ve made Batman’s transformation feel more earned and impactful, rather than just introducing him in Batman v Superman. A lot of people don’t actually realize Batman has a no-kill rule, especially with how the live-action films portray him. Even Addie didn’t pick up on the fact that Batman is killing and using guns in this film. That contrast was really needed, and it would’ve been amazing to see the shift from a more traditional Batman to the one we see in this film, who’s eventually brought back by Superman. I wouldn't call it a phenomenal movie, simply has too many problems even with this cut of the film. But I'm glad you enjoyed it.
@GreenGoblin64 Batman's "no kill rule" is much more modern than you might think. It's something that comes up in the Dark Knight trilogy and the cartoons, but it was *not* in the comics (at least, not in the comics pre-2000). That's why Tim Burton could show Batman killing people in both movies without fans going "Wait, Batman doesn't kill people! I'm never watching this grimdark stuff again!" And why do we need to have it hammered into our heads that Batman has "changed" before the events of the movie? We get shown/told plenty of times that he's changed. Alfred scolds him for using "new rules" and branding criminals. The people of Gotham are worried about the "new kind of mean in him". Bruce himself laments that, after 20 years of fighting criminals, new ones just grow up like weeds. Zack Snyder's a much more subtle storyteller than he gets credit for; and perhaps ironically, it's the ones who complain the most about his "lack of subtlety" who have the point of the film go flying right over their heads.
My biggest problem with this film is all the heavy lifting it attempts to do to flesh out the world. It took enough plot that could've easily been eight to ten movies and squeezed it into one. The Marvel Cinematic Universe took a decade to set up the Avengers and their fight with Thanos. In this one film we get storylines from The Dark Knight Returns (The actual fight between Bats and Supes), Flashpoint (Bruce seeing the 'vision' of Barry Allen/The Flash telling him about Lois being, 'the key'), Injustice (Evil Superman caused by Lois' death), Justice League: War (Darkseid, Steppenwolf, and the 'Mother boxes), Justice League: Rock of Ages, (Post Apocalpse Batman fighting minions of Darkseid), Batman: Death In The Family (The death of Jason Todd at the hands of The Joker), and The Death of Superman (Doomsday and Superman's death). On top of all this, we got the introduction of the entire Justice League with their cameos on Lex's hard drive. It was simply too much, too fast. If you weren't a devoted comic book fan, a lot of the time you were lost with what was happening on screen. I feel like the DCEU's problems started here and never were able to be recovered.
You say that like those whole stories were being told here. They weren't. At best, they're Easter eggs for comic book fans. This movie told its own story, its own version of events. Not everyone got lost trying to remember everything that happened in all of those stories. This movie has plenty of fans; and judging not just by Addie's video but other reactions I've seen, it's still gaining new ones. The DCEU's problem was Warner Brothers taking the movies the directors made, chopping them all to pieces, and reassembling them as grotesque Frankenstein monsters; and the monsters turned on their creators. That's why anyone who wants to watch them now should only ever watch the director's cuts of them.
Ngl Batman's fears, albeit too far, were valid and have been from comics and animations too. Superman, an alien, attracts other dangerous extraterrestrials to Earth, and for someone like him if mind-controlled can be super dangerous and unstoppable for humans to deal alone. I love Bats and Supes being friends and having mutual respect but I always feel when it comes to humanity or him, Batman will not think twice about ending Superman.
It's the weakest of the Snyder-Trilogy, mostly because of Jesses's Lex Luther, but Ben has become my favorite Live-Action-Batman, because he is so close to Frank Miller's Comicversion and Gal's Entrance is just iconic.
32:41 The scene is not really about bonding over their Mothers same name, its about that batman realised what he is actually doing at the moment. With his last breath Superman beg's him to safe Martha, Bruce realised he is the bad guy in this Situation (Like the Robber that killed his mum). In that moment Bruce saw Clark for the first time, a boy not an evil destructive god, who doesn't want to lose his mother.
It's amazing the amount of people that think it's just because their mothers shared a name. Batman also saw that Superman wasn't begging for his own life but that of a human. Until then, he just saw him as a super powered alien that didn't have humans' best interest at heart. I really enjoy this film and think the hate is ridiculous.
Here is a list of DC Extended Universe movies to watch (after Batman v Superman): - David Eyre's Suicide Squad - Wonder Woman - Justice League by Zack Snyder - Aquaman - Shazam - Birds of Prey: The Amazing Story of Harley Quinn - Wonder Woman 1984 - James Gunn's Suicide Squad - The Peacemaker/TV series - Black Adam - Shazam: Fury of the Gods - Flash - The Blue Beetle - Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

At this point in time Batman is already weathered and paranoid. The “Joke’s On You” suit belonged to Robin. So this is a Batman that has stopped pulling his punches on criminals.
We should've seen this.
Gee it would’ve been nice if that had been spelled out onscreen. The editing of this film was an atrocity.
@@keefriff99It was spelt out on screen. We see the Robin costume and the message from The Joker. I'm not sure how much more you would want.

The character you didn't know is Cyborg. You will see his back story in Justice League.
If she watch the Snyder cut she will, but if she doesn't, she will not learn aything about Cyborg actually.
But why say "Martha"? Why not just say "save my mom"?
•”Every boy’s special lady is his mother.”
•”But the mother of a flying demon must be a witch.”
The rest of the time he exclusively uses Martha’s name, because like Batman, he views Clark as an alien, and while he knows Clark cares enough for Martha for her to be an exploitable weakness, he doesn’t view the mortal woman as actually the ‘god’s’ mother.
No his immediate thought when Superman said that was his mother. They don't bond over it but that's exactly why he stopped.

It's important to note; Batman is plagued by nightmares constantly, and Superman regularly talks to the ghosts of his father's.

44:47 Yes, that right there, Zack Snyder's Justice League is the continuation to BVS Ultimate Edition.

To quote from the DCAU Justice League: Batman 'I have one power. I NEVER give up.'
Happy new year Addie, I'm going to be going through the DCEU for the first time after buying all the movies
@@DanielSSilva-616- No kill rule exist for a reason, If Batman kills then he is no better than the perosn who killed his parents.
This version of Batman is the most comic accurate and dead on accurate we have been given to date
29:17 Cyborg is from the cartoon Teen Titans. That would probably be the only place you would recognize him from
Happy New Year, Addie! 🎆🎆
In case you're wondering why the aspect ratio is different for some scenes in the movie, then those scenes were shot with 15-perf/70mm IMAX film cameras.
#DunkirkForAddieCounts
...and also Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, and Samantha Morton.
Been waiting for this one. Criminally underrated masterpiece. Thank God you're watching the proper version of this movie
I'm so happy you enjoyed this film!! This is one of my all-time favorite films. 👍 -OG
When did she get so strong?!?”
Still one of my favorite convos from that time.
Saw this film in theatres years ago, i thought it was such a great intricate film. A whole chess game concocted by Lex Luthor until the big showdown. Beautiful film, great reaction!
Pity that Lex in this movie was such a laughable departure from what he’s supposed to be…
@ It’s different iteration of Lex. He’s a bad guy and he was an excellent villain with hatred towards god. Maybe a bit eccentric, but still good.
@@AlexanderLunariusG7 A little TOO over the top maniacal, psychotic, and lacking in social skills to take seriously in such an otherwise dark and serious story (let alone reconcile with the coolly charismatic and cunning character he is in the original comics and other adaptations), but I nonetheless accept that this is a different (emphasis on DIFFERENT) incarnation of Lex.
@ Yeah, he’s a great character, less traditional bald industrialist and more a brilliant, erratic genius, whose motives are as complex as his character. I like Jesse’s interpretation of Lex more than Hackman’s and Spaceys’ that’s for sure.
16:52 "Superman wouldn't do this" You've thankfully been sheltered from the Evil Superman trope that took over the character for a good decade.
Injustice is amazing though.
Wouldn't say a whole decade, lol. It was mainly a video game thing.
- This is just my opinion, so you know take it with a grain of salt but, I personally would not view a Superman who decided to take revenge upon who murdered his love, Lois as "Evil". Fully justified, you Murder the partner of a near invincible individual you should fully accept that he WILL come for you and not hold back. I would do the exact same thing, and I'm not "Evil" either; Don't murder my Wife.
I don't think you know what trope means
@@GeorgeTropicana Nope, no idea, lol
The original title was Batman v Superman - Dawn of Justice.
The Justice League was DC's version of the Avengers. I love the intro of the Justice League, when we get to meet the gang.
Justice League came before the Avengers, historical wise.
My point wasn't what came first, but the Avengers movies came out before the Justice League, so many people were introduced of them first.
"it's called a bullet" still cracks me up to this day
4:05 Why would that makes sense?
@@PaperbackWizard That's not guilt, it's called xenophobia.
God the haters are at it again, I don’t understand why the haters are here since they hate this movie, they are the ones who have to move on !
Let people enjoy these movies in peace for God’s sake, it’s 2025 it is time for you to focus on what you like and leave behind what you don’t.
I’m so sorry Addie. Just imagine 11 years of that.
Ah yes, a great way to create echo chambers. It's funny how if you don't like the popular thing and you have legitimate criticisms you are a "hater". Did you ever think that the reason we watch the reactions is because we like the reactor, regardless of what they are reviewing?
@ ah yes, the victim card, read the comments. Popular thinking? Wow that’s weird I was told we were the minority; haters nor real DC fans have ever had legitimate criticsms about these movies, never, they just throw hate and that’s it, if you don’t like the movie that’s cool, if you didn’t resonate with it that’s cool, if you didn’t like Snyder’s universe that’s cool, if you didn’t like how something was developed that’s cool, the question is the same, BvS came out 9 year ago if you didn’t like all that, if it is so bad for you, why the hell are you here? Like why are you wasting your time or even interacting in these reactions? That specific people really need to MOVE ON, We Snyderverse fans are told every single day to move on for loving it while haters keep bringing it back just to throw shade or compare a dead universe to the new one, I’m not saying legitimate criticism is bad, I’m saying haters found her reaction again cause they did the same in the MoS reaction too to guess what? “create eco chambers” as you are saying, that has been their job for 11 years, and I’m talking about all those comments full of nonsense. Check them. How is it that comments like “I really hated this movie” is a legitimate criticism? it is an opinion but again if you hated it then why are you here? That’s the people I’m talking, haters. Like Did they even watch the reaction or just commented it, I follow some nice reactors and when they post about something I don’t like nor I’m interested I skip it. Did you ever think that’s a possibility? Or maybe just maybe they are just waiting if they react just like they did and if they don’t then they hate in the comments.
Anyways have a nice day and a nice year, I’m not interested in arguing with you.
@@daniellopez1843 This comment is why most people don't like Snyder fans. Fans of Batman and Superman have every right to dislike this film and comment about it just like fans of the film have every right to support it. If you don't like that then get off the internet. Opinions are just opinions so get over it.
@@obredaanps3 WE'RE CRIMINALS, ALFRED. WE'VE ALWAYS BEEN CRIMINALS, NOTHING'S CHANGED.
So “ People” mostly haters actually, don’t like us for comments like mine which is completely true and I told the most reasonable thing to do when you don’t like something ? Nah, thats not why they hate us, they hate us because we don’t shut up anymore we don’t let spread false narratives that started since 2013 or even in 2016 after the hate campaign the movies received and since then the one the fandome has received since we are not letting them spread lies, or attack against us but let’s go back to the main point, why do they engage with something they don’t like? yes you have the right to, everyone has it but that doesn’t mean you have to, that’s a decision, I have decided to skip reactions of movies I’m not interested, or even comment in stuff I didn’t like, you won’t see me going around Marvel reactions throwing hate, cause I let people enjoy and I don’t have time to waste it in stuff I don’t love, as I said just MOVE ON! Go enjoy the stuff you like why focusing on commenting on something you don’t like or in bothering people with your hatred or disgust? Like don’t you get it? That’s toxic behavior the same stuff you guys keep accusing us of but just for demonstrating our love to it in a space that was practically for fans of the movies, or in general but guess who are the ones being called toxic? Yes, Us. We are always the bad ones for y’all.
It is not that I don’t accept people different opinions cause I respect intelligent and assertive criticism and respectful and real opinions but some use their BS opinions as the absolute truth to just attack what they didn’t like or felt right, opinions which mostly are wrong and come from just that, an opinion based on what they didn’t like or in how it was made not because the movie was objectively bad, it is always the same rhetoric that has being going on for 11 year, well look like it is going to be 12, I have even seen the same person going in these reactions over and over commenting the same shit in every reaction people make, reactions which at end end up being positive, look like the necessity to comment something negative is because those who don’t really like different opinions of the movie from theirs are those who get angry when people expose their bullshit, and no, not all of them are coming from Superman or Batman fans I have been here since 2014 I know very well, and no, I don’t have to get over the internet haters, people in general must grow up and mature and let people enjoy what they like, it is easy as that, that narrative that we have to accept every negative comment, every lie, every stupid opinion or even attack of haters or “real DC” towards us or the SnyderVerse and remain silent because if we don’t we are the bad guys and if is just oppressive, and they don’t like it when we don’t shut up anymore. Movies are movies, some you will like some you won’t that’s okay what is not okay is to engage with what didn’t resonate with you, and keep throwing shade after 12 years, just get over it and let people enjoy it.
Anyways, have an amazing year, enjoy your day. ✨
I’m not continuing this conversation.
@@daniellopez1843 guys! Guys! You're ALL manbabies with unhealthy excessive emotional investments in picture books for little kids!
Happy New Year, Addie 🎉
In the 90s one of the biggest stories on comic book history was the Death of Superman. Yes, he’s dead. Your denial is cute though.
hes not dead though
@ technically he is, but as a Kryptonian his level of decay and degradation is slower. Much slower. Zack Snyder’s Justice League kind of explains this.
That made Suoerman explode in popularity, again.
YES!!! I’ve been so excited to watch you react to this! 😁
Oh thank god it's the Ultimate Edition....
I’m so glad someone who has intellectual acuity to understand the Martha scene!!! Great reaction
Exactly, it's actually a stupid complaint because the entire reason why he is batman is because of the murders, so of course that would trigger him.
More so it just makes it more believable
lmao if you don't get how stupid this was you might be legitimately brain dead
Correct, Bruce was forced to confront Clark's humanity and realized he was in fact, more human than Bruce in many ways and that after 20 years of being Batman and losing everybody he loves (except Alfred) has taken it toll on Bruce's humanity making him the killing machine he was in this movie.
why would supes use his mother's name instead of "my mother" in that moment? Bats doesn't know who "Martha" would be.
Um...and he is an alien. Krypton is the name of a planet, not the name of a street in Zimbabwe.
I know Superman is an Alien from Krypton. because he is more human than the actual humanity itself.
He was raise by two human parents on earth.
This is the best DC movie
24:22 Yes MOVIE, not plural. The second Wonder Woman movie doesn't exist 😂
This was awesome! I love that movie so nice seeing your reactions.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is the version you must watch. Truly epic. 4 hours long, but you don’t feel it.
33:25 FYI the Batman fight scenes are based on the popular Batman video game series.
Years ago Superman was killed by Doomsday in the comics.
Batman: thinks Superman's the villain after seeing the destruction he caused in his fight with Zod
also Batman: blows up half of Gotham just driving his Batmobile around
Batman's slo-mo pearls shots are 100% Frank Miller, but they've made it into a lot of the cinema versions.
Lawrence of Arabia is worth the length, of course.
And alienate her manchild audience?
10:11 Yep. Basically New York is the backdrop for Metropolis and New Jersey doubles as Gotham.
My favorite part of the whole film is Wonder Woman getting hit by Doomsday, and she gives a cocky smirk like it's the first challenging fight she's had in centuries.
"Our battle will be legendary!"
I honestly don't find this film all that dark. Hell, Matt Reeve's The Batman is a lot darker. But everyone's got their own perspective. For me, it's a moving examination of survivor's guilt and turning your anger towards the wrong thing.
Watch the Abyss special edition
"Is this your Batmobile? It's so cute, I like it."
Ever.)
Ha! 🤡
I'm never watching this grimdark stuff again!"
And why do we need to have it hammered into our heads that Batman has "changed" before the events of the movie? We get shown/told plenty of times that he's changed. Alfred scolds him for using "new rules" and branding criminals. The people of Gotham are worried about the "new kind of mean in him". Bruce himself laments that, after 20 years of fighting criminals, new ones just grow up like weeds. Zack Snyder's a much more subtle storyteller than he gets credit for; and perhaps ironically, it's the ones who complain the most about his "lack of subtlety" who have the point of the film go flying right over their heads.
Wonder Woman & Zack Snyder's Justice League round out this story. They're both great!
Can’t wait to check them both out! Thank you for your support!
Ben Affleck acted the shit out of that Martha ptsd scene. 32:29
Ahaha, Addie is the ideal audience for the dirt-rising-tease! Literally calling out “give me hope”!
This was such a genuine reaction. You are awesome. ♾️
28:53 We do see "everyone" in this movie, that's why it's called "Dawn of Justice"...
It's the weakest of the Snyder-Trilogy, mostly because of Jesses's Lex Luther, but Ben has become my favorite Live-Action-Batman, because he is so close to Frank Miller's Comicversion and Gal's Entrance is just iconic.
Yeah, Gal's Wonder Woman appearace was so cool. "Is she with you?" "I thought she was with you." A classic moment.
Happy New Year Addie and I gonna say I love Ultimate Edition
32:41 The scene is not really about bonding over their Mothers same name, its about that batman realised what he is actually doing at the moment.
With his last breath Superman beg's him to safe Martha, Bruce realised he is the bad guy in this Situation (Like the Robber that killed his mum).
In that moment Bruce saw Clark for the first time, a boy not an evil destructive god, who doesn't want to lose his mother.
"I bet your parents taught you that you mean something; that you're here for a reason..."
He says that right before the silly Martha moment.
@obredaanps3 your point?
@Joker_JAK Exactly, I Think this movie is so overhated/ underraded
