@@DarkCloudCompendium a lot of the differences between the JP version and the international version were my favorite facts. Also I cant believe how long the original atla opening was its insane.
Never in my life did I expect to see a Dark Cloud Iceberg in my life, not that I'm complaining. Dark Cloud (specifically 1) is my personal favorite PS2 game of all time and seeing people online talk about it fills me with so much joy. I really hope that a Dark Cloud 3 comes out one day, or a remaster of the first two games.

This was a really fun watch, I learned quite a bit, and a few things I had hunches on were basically confirmed, like Seda being planned to be playable. I remember when I got to the end of the game and was pretty surprised when they never joined me, their design just screamed "I am a playable character"

I am still playing the dark cloud games again. Just got to dc3/ rogue galaxy. Love this serie! Yes it is dark cloud, dark cloud2/ dark chronicle, rogue galaxy/dark chonicle 2/dark cloud 3! The game rogue galaxy/earliër development dark cloud 3, still has an extra reference to dark cloud 2/ dark chronicle! Other than the early found dc3 name files. The ghost kid in Steve is Mark/Max, from dark cloud 2 better known as Maximilian! You guys never noticed? I noticed it right away when i first played Rogue galaxy when it was released back then, and saw the ghost kid coming out when Steve contacted the doctor. His father. Also more references as being dark cloud 3 to dark cloud 1&2 are the copy "purple" atla stone on the arm of Seed that was made from the human dna data on the tablet, and actually had to be the Atla stone to use in georama to build/solve the portal to eden. And Jaster, after beïng turned into the Eden soldier/ star god, and opened the gate of eden, they talk about a legend of the star god. Able to move entire cities. Well guess what, you had to place/move buildings and create cities in georama in dc 1&2. So the star god was actually Toan in dark cloud 1 /maximilian dc2 or that wizard in dc 1? With the help of the atla stone. There you have it. Rogue galaxy ACTUALLY is dark cloud 3/ dark chronicle 2(as being a sequel to dark chronicle/dark cloud 2). Just look at it the way they changed dark cloud 2 to dark chronicle in the EU. I also forgot to mention, the flying moon ship you unlock in dark cloud 1 for flying to yellow drops? The moon? That is also used in rogue galaxy as a transport for flying to other planets.

@@DarkCloudCompendium you know this was already known information back when the game was released right? It was already on the net back then. Also, another connection that rogue is a "tales of" kind of follow up on dark Cloud 2/dark chronicle and actually still holds the name as 3rd title/installment in the dc series, is that Cedric has built the first version of Steve(the same steve but newer version robot in rogue galaxy) and shows steve off in the sewers system against the elephant boss in the pump level in the first dungeon in Dark Cloud 2? So all the connections add up together and as for the eu releases you get, Dark cloud, dark chronicle, rogue galaxy as dc 1,2 &3. There are so many more connections it is a job well done by level 5 to still create a dc3 game while Sony declined that title and without Sony noticing it they still got it done👀

Hi there hidden castle. I have another question for ya haha, well 2 actually. 1. I noticed in the Tokyo game show 1999 there was a glimpse of a jump feature and to my awearness U haven't made another video that features this so I'm wondering if in the files if there was any models or animations of this jump feature. (I take it there probably isn't alot of textures or animations or models of beta things in the files other than where it exists once found..... In otherwords more textures of beta things.) 2. I noticed there was a way to call dran in beta that would take U to a new world. Upon looking at the beta map and current map I'm wondering if U know of any other maps or other pictures of the 2 said maps that maybe show more of the map (mainly beta map)
Hey there hope all is well! Glad to answer your questions 1) The jump functionality was seen in Tokyo game show 1999 and then was removed from the final version of the game although when you access the debug menu when running around in the game world you can push the circle button to be able to jump once again although without any jump animations Toan just hovers 2) In regards to the world map the only 2 world maps we have is the final world map and the Tokyo game show 1999 world map there really isn't any others unfortunately

@@DarkCloudCompendium As a kid I always wondered why I couldn't access the backrooms of the gallery of time or demon shaft, I guess I know now lol, the game seems extremely simple from a technical standpoint, I'm not a gamedev but it wouldn't be hard (Other than the art) for a gamedev to make this game My brother wanted me to play dark cloud 1 and 2 alongside him (playing separately) so I saw this recently, Also nearing the end of the video your voice changed slightly (I think) and you sounded haunting almost lol, maybe I was just watching too long but it was pretty funny

@@DarkCloudCompendium I've played every game from Dark Cloud to Rogue Galaxy. Dark Cloud 1 is good, because of the georama menu and gameplay as non turn based battle style. Rogue Galaxy for the love of chinchin does everything worse what was good and improved in Dark Chronicle. Story is pretty shallow overall the battle system is weirdly mixed with turn based elements and it wasn't as good as Dark Cloud.
@@DarkCloudCompendium and dont forget the cut modes of transport. it says to another world map making me think there was gonna be an extra world map to the main one

The patch for the duster has been out for a few years, you can get the patch from Romhacking and apply it to you're rip of the game through lunar ips 🙂 Alternatively there's also a .Pnach code you can input on emulator to get it working if you choose to do so

I recently watched an iceberg video for Earthbound 64 and wondered if/when someone would do one for Dark Cloud/Dark Chronicle and finally one has been done. So thanks for this video, was very interesting and informative. I think the thing that surprised me the most was the Level 5 x Everybody's golf thing. That is pretty cool. I haven't played the game but i at least thought i would have heard or seen the collab before.

Does anyone else remember playing the flash games on the official Dark Cloud website back in the day? I remember one had you clicking on treasure boxes to find items, and the other had you using ideas to combine items (a la Dark Cloud 2). I can't find anyone else who has mentioned these or even screenshotted them, so they may be lost media at this point.
OMG YES! I remember this too! I remember that every time you o opened the treasure chests the title music would play and it mentioned something about buying the PS2 game to view all the features. The early demo makes me think that could be toan's dad like before he gets his turban and give his turban to Toan that way it feels like we are following his dads footprints like a dark cloud 0 sort of.
@@DarkCloudCompendium Lots of more lore, easter eggs and references, Like mabe the MC is related to Toan like a ancestor and the love interest is related to Monica and Max too like their ancestor child. And its like dark cloud 1 and you have more playable character and maybe Osmond is their guide and gives tips, and steve is a talking enchanted weapon again and he falls in love with an enchanted alchemy pot that help make your inventions.
Could it be possible that the Onyx Thunder Cloud mentioned at 37:38 is the sword Seda uses during his Duel Cutscene/later on? I remember thinking it was strange that we never ended up being able to build up into or acquire that sword in the game- despite how unique it looks. Perhaps the Onyx its referring to are the various black parts on the sword? Just speculation but cool to think about if we don't already have a name for the sword he uses in game. :) Very great video this was such a treat to watch.

I think I was 16 when I went into whatever browser-based photo editor I used to make the Operation Atla image and posted it lol. I was so surprised by how quickly it got to a few hundred members! I've been following your work since the channel started so I was up to date with a lot of discoveries, but I *did* learn new stuff form the iceberg! I love Level-5 but skipped on White Knight Chronicles back in the day, and I was surprised to see it had its own form of Georama, so cool!

Dark Cloud 1 and 2 connections. Osmond, Master Utan, Treant / Jurak, The Dark Genie are all returning characters, all characters who are ageless or at least long lived. The Mardan Garyan also returns, the fish CousCous is friends with in Matataki Village. This also lends to the belief that Wise Owl Forest and Rainbow Butterfly Wood are the same woods. Not only are Mardan, Treant / Jurak, and Utan found in both, but if you look beyond some of the pathways in Rainbow, you can see the exit gates sometimes from Wise Owl. Now let us move on to speculation. Seda and King Raybrandt have the same face model. It's been theorized that Monica's kingdom is Seda's after Toan alters the timeline and saves it. Seda could either be an ancestor to King Raybrandt or IS king Raybrandt since we don't know his last name. Also, Seda's lover Sophia and Monica's mother have the SAME EXACT model with zero differences. This can't be a coincidence.

Osmond was originally gizmo, when they cut "sheena" they needed another character to fill that gap. gizmo already being fully modeled was an easy side npc to cut and fill that role. Some supporting ideas A limited animations B similar model as the other villagers

The swap of various 'L's and 'R's is actually a very common thing when Japanese text gets translated because in Japanese, L makes the R sound and R makes the L sound. A very audible and noteworthy instance of this is in the movie 'Spirited Away.' Where mentor of Chihiro is called Lin in the english dub but her name in the original is Rin.
Oh wow. I learnt loads of new stuff today about Dark Cloud. Some of which I already knew. But I must admit, I never knew about half of the promotional material you mentioned on here. Like the advertising and the trading card game. Also about the flapping duster hackmod. I knew about the glitch for that. But it would be awesome if I could work out if I can apply the hack mod to my UK console. Like will it damage it or lock my system? I am so hesitant to mess with game systems cos I know they region lock them and put stuff in place that punishes you if you're caught messing with the system. Guess I'm a little paranoid with my PS2... it's unlikely since it's not connected to the internet. 😅 But this was a great video mate. 😉

Oh wow @@shiruotakuno28 the unused fire dungeon was honestly one of my favorites too, we found the key items along with a pretty suspicious looking unused monster which was included in this video who knows what else was leftover for that dungeon!
The dark cloud games are still my favorites after all these years. I still have my physical games. Thanks for finally explaining the feather duster item. It's a shame that it never got fixed.
Always great to hear from you Kusagi Fox! 🎉 It really makes you wonder what level 5 what have been able to do how they had More time for developments which would have led to characters not being scrapped areas like the flame dungeon not being deleted and just a bigger more cohesive game altogether. Even the initial JP launch version was a confusing mess 🐸 With that being said well we came out without the end of the day I think was pretty darn amazing as well, because of Dark Cloud's success Level 5 was given free reign from Sony to do what they pleased with the sequel ✌🏼🥳 What bothers me however is that Sony and Level 5 knew that the Flapping Duster was not there and the still didn't correct the error in the greatest hits version, it was the perfect time for them to do so! 😂

I love talking about the series with other fans as we're both so passionate about the Dark Cloud series, as long as we're enjoying these iconic games they won't ever go anywhere ✌🏼🤠
Seda playable...😭😭I would rather him than Osmond honestly. Seda would have been interesting to see and play...and Seda is one of the characters i like, unlike Osmond. This is disturbing to me, like the Flapping Duster being removed... but still this game is seriously good. :D
Always great to hear from you DonaldDuck! 🎉 It really makes you wonder what level 5 what have been able to do how they had More time for developments which would have led to characters not being scrapped areas like the flame dungeon not being deleted and just a bigger more cohesive game altogether. Even the initial JP launch version was a confusing mess 🐸 With that being said well we came out without the end of the day I think was pretty darn amazing as well, because of Dark Cloud's success Level 5 was given free reign from Sony to do what they pleased with the sequel ✌🏼🥳

I make it a point to read npc dialogue. Even if I skip it the first time because im in a hurry, ill reload a save just to read the dialogue I missed. So important especially in text only games
Oh for sure! NPC dialogue is honestly one of the most goated aspects of Dark Cloud since each NPC has so much charm, I tried my best to capture the spirit of that in Dark Cloud Enhanced's new script!
I have a theory about Ruby and that's she's no longer a genie sure she came from a lamp but I believe she's a free genie for if three wishes are up they retuned sealed in the lamp and disappear until the next master finds the lamp, and the mayor/former mob boss probably wished to marry her which in turned freed her but allowing her to have half of her cosmic powers giving him infinite wishes, but giving her domme mommy personality she kept him from being greedy and basically tamed the poor guy to make him wish for her to be sealed in the lamp again until he needed her leading to Toan releasing her. Thus why she would be called a sorceress instead of a genie, plus I see her being called a genie through Toan's eyes for he saw her come out of the lamp, and the town sees her as the Mayor/Boss' sorceress wife
Thank you so much for all the work you have done! I had no idea there was a such thing as a community for this game. I've never met anyone who remembers this game, but I still like to do a playthrough every few years, including Dark Cloud 2 and Rogue Galaxy. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but these games have a certain charm to them that I felt disappeared from later Level-5 projects.

I had this game back on the PS2, its by far my all time favourite game, i found it ground breaking. Im currently replaying it on my PS4 I got dark chronicles aswell but I'll be playing that after beating the genie

I loved the part about the beta version, it really made me wonder how different the series would have been if Toan had these abilities to create even entire landscapes. Then I thought this would make Dark Cloud 2's georama so much more difficult. 😂
@@Darkcloud-Atlatoan The beta version is honestly so interesting to me, you were able to create landscapes, command the weather and there was even the thought of including animals! 🏞🐦 What really peaked my interested was the idea that Level 5 were attempting an online georama mode where players could visit each others worlds and collaborate, sounds very similar to Minecraft 20 years prior!🤯 I also created an Iceberg for Dark Cloud 2 that I think you'd enjoy, check it out 😄 th-cam.com/video/pAgpnQzaw2I/w-d-xo.html
Such a great job. I'm glad Xiao had a unique gimmick that Osmond doesn't supersede her with. Really fascinating stuff. I definitely learned a bit and some new things (some of the stuff I knew came from your channel).
I've always wondered why my memories of the game don't align with the 'public' information. I unfortunately have long lost access to my disc copy (not that it was mine), but it was interesting. The most vivid memory was when the black and white guy openend the portal, I assume his animations bugged out, but it looked like he killed himself with his own sword, opening the portal within himself, and the proceeding dungeon had blood covering every corner of the tilesets, with no red tapestries in sight (I assume they had bugged out or something like the animations in the cutscene). I didn't see it that way though, and I thought it was f***ing awesome, that the game had finally gotten to that interesting dark side of things in earnest. A few oddities like songs missing instruments, dungeon levels bugging out, the carpet which I have zero idea how I had seen that before being that I played an english version, etc. I have a hard time remembering things, but that was a copy from an early stage of life, where the only thing I remember else of the PS2 was a GTA game (might have been san andreas idfk) which I wasn't allowed to play. The only reason I remember Dark Cloud in that time was because it got taken away when we discovered (and then caught witnessing) the grandma sitting on your head scene, which I thought was a stupid reason and just weird. Side note: This game and FFXII have impressed themselves upon me the most, and I think a full on game expanding on all of DC's lost and forgotten concepts in the structure of how FFXII handled it's worldscape (of it opening up bit by bit through story, while still allowing you multiple other full blown optional areas to either pass through or fully explore at your own interest, and seeing the world grow as you progress through time, always coming back to one area or another for something obscure you found) would be an awesome title to experience. Like: The combat is solid, the QTEs are rad (just needs a way to proc so you can control it via the gems you use to upgrade or a weapon with the stat 'stagger, etc', good way to award skilled combat with extra items when you are desperate and about to die), dynamic tilesets could be neat, but flags for tiles would be better to allow for cosmetic town building (turn collision off of vanity objects, override which tile varient you use, etc), an overworld of the world's darkness to accrue resources for your georama blueprints to rebuild the destroyed yet save parts, and townsfolk creating new blueprints as unlocks that are not atla preserved in dungeons, or only found as remnants in the scattered renewable atla, so you can scour for things as you need as opposed to fully linear, more impactful combat (meaning status effects have tactical prominence, rather than just being there as a novelty for the area, would loved to have gotten more premeditated with my plunges into the depths. Die to something, equip and strategize to suit, and try again), better dungeon tilesets, larger ceilings and wider tunnels so bigger enemies can chase you into a corner, an elite that guards either the gate or key so as not to be random minesweeper checks, wellsprings need to be finite, or only cleanse/finite, the gambling mechanics need a skill check option, never liked betting my health on a gain when it could be earned, random punishments shouldn't exceed your own error, take a hint from other games and use shaping tools (add in elevation, other tools, detect climates to create unique areas for new fish, or types of land like a mountain trail, a forest cave, a desert oasis, jagged rocks and hills, to suit your world building creativity without being left to rot on your unprovoked creativity), time sensitive mechanics (georama rescued village grandmother with naught long to live). I have a lot of ideas written down already, but that's some of them I think have reasonable impact with a fully rebuilt game using further advanced tech within the essence and spirit of the game without modifying or tainting it's original self, only giving you further adventure and exploration into the world you pretty much live in to see flourish once more, and that expanding those limiters using practices created well past it's release could really make this game shine. The only thing I would hate to see is the online experience of collaboration, it would totally break the idea of the game in my eyes, unless everyone created their own chosen one avatar, which I have never seen work well in any context.

I finally got down to watching this! There were some stuff I didn't know, like the music not being MIDI at first. A theory of mine is that they wanted to sell the OST so they made the game's soundtrack a lower quality. That is something Japan does with Dragon Quest games in Japan nowadays. One thing I find missing in this iceberg is the Dark Cloud cameo in the anime Ghost Stories

@@DarkCloudCompendium a lot of the differences between the JP version and the international version were my favorite facts. Also I cant believe how long the original atla opening was its insane.
Never in my life did I expect to see a Dark Cloud Iceberg in my life, not that I'm complaining. Dark Cloud (specifically 1) is my personal favorite PS2 game of all time and seeing people online talk about it fills me with so much joy. I really hope that a Dark Cloud 3 comes out one day, or a remaster of the first two games.

This was a really fun watch, I learned quite a bit, and a few things I had hunches on were basically confirmed, like Seda being planned to be playable. I remember when I got to the end of the game and was pretty surprised when they never joined me, their design just screamed "I am a playable character"

I am still playing the dark cloud games again. Just got to dc3/ rogue galaxy. Love this serie! Yes it is dark cloud, dark cloud2/ dark chronicle, rogue galaxy/dark chonicle 2/dark cloud 3!
The game rogue galaxy/earliër development dark cloud 3, still has an extra reference to dark cloud 2/ dark chronicle! Other than the early found dc3 name files. The ghost kid in Steve is Mark/Max, from dark cloud 2 better known as Maximilian! You guys never noticed? I noticed it right away when i first played Rogue galaxy when it was released back then, and saw the ghost kid coming out when Steve contacted the doctor. His father.
Also more references as being dark cloud 3 to dark cloud 1&2 are the copy "purple" atla stone on the arm of Seed that was made from the human dna data on the tablet, and actually had to be the Atla stone to use in georama to build/solve the portal to eden. And Jaster, after beïng turned into the Eden soldier/ star god, and opened the gate of eden, they talk about a legend of the star god. Able to move entire cities. Well guess what, you had to place/move buildings and create cities in georama in dc 1&2. So the star god was actually Toan in dark cloud 1 /maximilian dc2 or that wizard in dc 1? With the help of the atla stone.
There you have it. Rogue galaxy ACTUALLY is dark cloud 3/ dark chronicle 2(as being a sequel to dark chronicle/dark cloud 2). Just look at it the way they changed dark cloud 2 to dark chronicle in the EU.
I also forgot to mention, the flying moon ship you unlock in dark cloud 1 for flying to yellow drops? The moon? That is also used in rogue galaxy as a transport for flying to other planets.

Also, another connection that rogue is a "tales of" kind of follow up on dark Cloud 2/dark chronicle and actually still holds the name as 3rd title/installment in the dc series, is that Cedric has built the first version of Steve(the same steve but newer version robot in rogue galaxy) and shows steve off in the sewers system against the elephant boss in the pump level in the first dungeon in Dark Cloud 2? So all the connections add up together and as for the eu releases you get, Dark cloud, dark chronicle, rogue galaxy as dc 1,2 &3. Hi there hidden castle. I have another question for ya haha, well 2 actually.
1. I noticed in the Tokyo game show 1999 there was a glimpse of a jump feature and to my awearness U haven't made another video that features this so I'm wondering if in the files if there was any models or animations of this jump feature. (I take it there probably isn't alot of textures or animations or models of beta things in the files other than where it exists once found..... In otherwords more textures of beta things.)
2. I noticed there was a way to call dran in beta that would take U to a new world. Upon looking at the beta map and current map I'm wondering if U know of any other maps or other pictures of the 2 said maps that maybe show more of the map (mainly beta map)

1) The jump functionality was seen in Tokyo game show 1999 and then was removed from the final version of the game although when you access the debug menu when running around in the game world you can push the circle button to be able to jump once again although without any jump animations Toan just hovers
2) In regards to the world map the only 2 world maps we have is the final world map and the Tokyo game show 1999 world map there really isn't any others unfortunately

Rogue Galaxy sucked pretty hard though. Dark Chronicle was peak gameplay.

@@DarkCloudCompendium I've played every game from Dark Cloud to Rogue Galaxy. Dark Cloud 1 is good, because of the georama menu and gameplay as non turn based battle style. Rogue Galaxy for the love of chinchin does everything worse what was good and improved in Dark Chronicle. Story is pretty shallow overall the battle system is weirdly mixed with turn based elements and it wasn't as good as Dark Cloud.

WTH THERE IS A PATCH FOR THE FLAPPINH DUSTER 😦🥳🥳 Finally! I knew about the item menu glitch, but that is impractical to casual players. I hope the patch is easy to do 👍
The patch for the duster has been out for a few years, you can get the patch from Romhacking and apply it to you're rip of the game through lunar ips 🙂
Alternatively there's also a .Pnach code you can input on emulator to get it working if you choose to do so

I recently watched an iceberg video for Earthbound 64 and wondered if/when someone would do one for Dark Cloud/Dark Chronicle and finally one has been done. So thanks for this video, was very interesting and informative. I think the thing that surprised me the most was the Level 5 x Everybody's golf thing. That is pretty cool. That's a good question unfortunately level 5 and Sony both own the dark cloud license so in order for a remaster to go through both companies have to be exclusively on playstation hardware I'm not saying it's not going to happen but the chances are looking slimmer and slimmer every year but we're still here celebrating our love for the dark cloud series 🙌🏼🌟
Does anyone else remember playing the flash games on the official Dark Cloud website back in the day? I remember one had you clicking on treasure boxes to find items, and the other had you using ideas to combine items (a la Dark Cloud 2). I can't find anyone else who has mentioned these or even screenshotted them, so they may be lost media at this point.
OMG YES! I remember this too! I remember that every time you o opened the treasure chests the title music would play and it mentioned something about buying the PS2 game to view all the features.
There was also a DC2 flash game that had a SimCity POV of Palm Brinks with Never Ending Adventure playing in the background.

@@DarkCloudCompendium Lots of more lore, easter eggs and references, Like mabe the MC is related to Toan like a ancestor and the love interest is related to Monica and Max too like their ancestor child. And its like dark cloud 1 and you have more playable character and maybe Osmond is their guide and gives tips, and steve is a talking enchanted weapon again and he falls in love with an enchanted alchemy pot that help make your inventions.
Could it be possible that the Onyx Thunder Cloud mentioned at 37:38 is the sword Seda uses during his Duel Cutscene/later on? I remember thinking it was strange that we never ended up being able to build up into or acquire that sword in the game- despite how unique it looks. Perhaps the Onyx its referring to are the various black parts on the sword? Just speculation but cool to think about if we don't already have a name for the sword he uses in game. :) Very great video this was such a treat to watch.

I've been following your work since the channel started so I was up to date with a lot of discoveries, but I *did* learn new stuff form the iceberg! I love Level-5 but skipped on White Knight Chronicles back in the day, and I was surprised to see it had its own form of Georama, so cool!

Op Atla was the first major fan group that I saw and it always struck a cord with me, when I started the Compendium in 2018 I used Op Atla as my inspiration! My favorite fact on this Iceberg would probably be Seda being playable, it was a crazy journey on how he was found!

Dark Cloud 1 and 2 connections.
Osmond, Master Utan, Treant / Jurak, The Dark Genie are all returning characters, all characters who are ageless or at least long lived. The Mardan Garyan also returns, the fish CousCous is friends with in Matataki Village. This also lends to the belief that Wise Owl Forest and Rainbow Butterfly Wood are the same woods. Not only are Mardan, Treant / Jurak, and Utan found in both, but if you look beyond some of the pathways in Rainbow, you can see the exit gates sometimes from Wise Owl.
Now let us move on to speculation. Seda and King Raybrandt have the same face model. It's been theorized that Monica's kingdom is Seda's after Toan alters the timeline and saves it. Seda could either be an ancestor to King Raybrandt or IS king Raybrandt since we don't know his last name. Also, Seda's lover Sophia and Monica's mother have the SAME EXACT model with zero differences. This can't be a coincidence.

The swap of various 'L's and 'R's is actually a very common thing when Japanese text gets translated because in Japanese, L makes the R sound and R makes the L sound. Oh wow. I learnt loads of new stuff today about Dark Cloud. Some of which I already knew. But I must admit, I never knew about half of the promotional material you mentioned on here. Like the advertising and the trading card game. Also about the flapping duster hackmod.
I knew about the glitch for that. But it would be awesome if I could work out if I can apply the hack mod to my UK console. Like will it damage it or lock my system? I am so hesitant to mess with game systems cos I know they region lock them and put stuff in place that punishes you if you're caught messing with the system. Guess I'm a little paranoid with my PS2... it's unlikely since it's not connected to the internet. 😅

Oh wow @@shiruotakuno28 the unused fire dungeon was honestly one of my favorites too, we found the key items along with a pretty suspicious looking unused monster which was included in this video who knows what else was leftover for that dungeon!
The dark cloud games are still my favorites after all these years. I still have my physical games. Thanks for finally explaining the feather duster item. It's a shame that it never got fixed.

It really makes you wonder what level 5 what have been able to do how they had More time for developments which would have led to characters not being scrapped areas like the flame dungeon not being deleted and just a bigger more cohesive game altogether. Even the initial JP launch version was a confusing mess 🐸
With that being said well we came out without the end of the day I think was pretty darn amazing as well, because of Dark Cloud's success Level 5 was given free reign from Sony to do what they pleased with the sequel ✌🏼🥳
What bothers me however is that Sony and Level 5 knew that the Flapping Duster was not there and the still didn't correct the error in the greatest hits version, it was the perfect time for them to do so! 😂
The broken dagger glitch made a much more enjoyable replay. I wouldn't suggest it for the first time playing as it breaks the upgrade system entirely.

Oh for sure, the JP release was truly something else, I own it and to this day I can't believe the original release of the game shipped that way and they never did a release of the international versions for Japan; they just got the worst version and stuck with it even on the PS4 version /:
I'm glad that DC got it's time to shine with the international release, if not for that we maybe wouldn't have gotten DC 2. I love talking about the series with other fans as we're both so passionate about the Dark Cloud series, as long as we're enjoying these iconic games they won't ever go anywhere ✌🏼🤠
Seda playable...😭😭I would rather him than Osmond honestly. Seda would have been interesting to see and play...and Seda is one of the characters i like, unlike Osmond. This is disturbing to me, like the Flapping Duster being removed... but still this game is seriously good. :D

It really makes you wonder what level 5 what have been able to do how they had More time for developments which would have led to characters not being scrapped areas like the flame dungeon not being deleted and just a bigger more cohesive game altogether. Even the initial JP launch version was a confusing mess 🐸
With that being said well we came out without the end of the day I think was pretty darn amazing as well, because of Dark Cloud's success Level 5 was given free reign from Sony to do what they pleased with the sequel ✌🏼🥳
@@DarkCloudCompendium yeah and so DK2 came to life. :) Speaking of it, i started Dark Cloud few days ago and i am at Queens grinding weapons in the back floor (Xiao is almost settled) and found one of the most powerful hammers for Goro. :D After DK, i will do Dark Chronicle as well to complete my childood.

I make it a point to read npc dialogue. Even if I skip it the first time because im in a hurry, ill reload a save just to read the dialogue I missed. So important especially in text only games
Oh for sure! NPC dialogue is honestly one of the most goated aspects of Dark Cloud since each NPC has so much charm, I tried my best to capture the spirit of that in Dark Cloud Enhanced's new script!
I have a theory about Ruby and that's she's no longer a genie sure she came from a lamp but I believe she's a free genie for if three wishes are up they retuned sealed in the lamp and disappear until the next master finds the lamp, and the mayor/former mob boss probably wished to marry her which in turned freed her but allowing her to have half of her cosmic powers giving him infinite wishes, but giving her domme mommy personality she kept him from being greedy and basically tamed the poor guy to make him wish for her to be sealed in the lamp again until he needed her leading to Toan releasing her. Thus why she would be called a sorceress instead of a genie, plus I see her being called a genie through Toan's eyes for he saw her come out of the lamp, and the town sees her as the Mayor/Boss' sorceress wife
What a fun theory, that's what I love about this series it leaves so much to interpretation for the players 🙌🏼
Thank you so much for all the work you have done! I had no idea there was a such thing as a community for this game. I've never met anyone who remembers this game, but I still like to do a playthrough every few years, including Dark Cloud 2 and Rogue Galaxy. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but these games have a certain charm to them that I felt disappeared from later Level-5 projects.

Oh fhat totly is a RTL 2 logo, I had some clear German footage of the rare 1999 beta and the demo's display unit! It was actually the clearest footage I had! Unfortunately when my hard drive died last year it got wiped along with it, all that's left of it is the clips I used in this video

I loved the part about the beta version, it really made me wonder how different the series would have been if Toan had these abilities to create even entire landscapes. Then I thought this would make Dark Cloud 2's georama so much more difficult. 😂
@@Darkcloud-Atlatoan The beta version is honestly so interesting to me, you were able to create landscapes, command the weather and there was even the thought of including animals! 🏞🐦
What really peaked my interested was the idea that Level 5 were attempting an online georama mode where players could visit each others worlds and collaborate, sounds very similar to Minecraft 20 years prior!🤯

I've always wondered why my memories of the game don't align with the 'public' information. I unfortunately have long lost access to my disc copy (not that it was mine), but it was interesting. The most vivid memory was when the black and white guy openend the portal, I assume his animations bugged out, but it looked like he killed himself with his own sword, opening the portal within himself, and the proceeding dungeon had blood covering every corner of the tilesets, with no red tapestries in sight (I assume they had bugged out or something like the animations in the cutscene). I didn't see it that way though, and I thought it was f***ing awesome, that the game had finally gotten to that interesting dark side of things in earnest. A few oddities like songs missing instruments, dungeon levels bugging out, the carpet which I have zero idea how I had seen that before being that I played an english version, etc. I have a hard time remembering things, but that was a copy from an early stage of life, where the only thing I remember else of the PS2 was a GTA game (might have been san andreas idfk) which I wasn't allowed to play. The only reason I remember Dark Cloud in that time was because it got taken away when we discovered (and then caught witnessing) the grandma sitting on your head scene, which I thought was a stupid reason and just weird.
Side note: This game and FFXII have impressed themselves upon me the most, and I think a full on game expanding on all of DC's lost and forgotten concepts in the structure of how FFXII handled it's worldscape (of it opening up bit by bit through story, while still allowing you multiple other full blown optional areas to either pass through or fully explore at your own interest, and seeing the world grow as you progress through time, always coming back to one area or another for something obscure you found) would be an awesome title to experience. Like: The combat is solid, the QTEs are rad (just needs a way to proc so you can control it via the gems you use to upgrade or a weapon with the stat 'stagger, etc', good way to award skilled combat with extra items when you are desperate and about to die), dynamic tilesets could be neat, but flags for tiles would be better to allow for cosmetic town building (turn collision off of vanity objects, override which tile varient you use, etc), an overworld of the world's darkness to accrue resources for your georama blueprints to rebuild the destroyed yet save parts, and townsfolk creating new blueprints as unlocks that are not atla preserved in dungeons, or only found as remnants in the scattered renewable atla, so you can scour for things as you need as opposed to fully linear, more impactful combat (meaning status effects have tactical prominence, rather than just being there as a novelty for the area, would loved to have gotten more premeditated with my plunges into the depths. Die to something, equip and strategize to suit, and try again), better dungeon tilesets, larger ceilings and wider tunnels so bigger enemies can chase you into a corner, an elite that guards either the gate or key so as not to be random minesweeper checks, wellsprings need to be finite, or only cleanse/finite, the gambling mechanics need a skill check option, never liked betting my health on a gain when it could be earned, random punishments shouldn't exceed your own error, take a hint from other games and use shaping tools (add in elevation, other tools, detect climates to create unique areas for new fish, or types of land like a mountain trail, a forest cave, a desert oasis, jagged rocks and hills, to suit your world building creativity without being left to rot on your unprovoked creativity), time sensitive mechanics (georama rescued village grandmother with naught long to live). I have a lot of ideas written down already, but that's some of them I think have reasonable impact with a fully rebuilt game using further advanced tech within the essence and spirit of the game without modifying or tainting it's original self, only giving you further adventure and exploration into the world you pretty much live in to see flourish once more, and that expanding those limiters using practices created well past it's release could really make this game shine. The only thing I would hate to see is the online experience of collaboration, it would totally break the idea of the game in my eyes, unless everyone created their own chosen one avatar, which I have never seen work well in any context.

I finally got down to watching this! There were some stuff I didn't know, like the music not being MIDI at first. A theory of mine is that they wanted to sell the OST so they made the game's soundtrack a lower quality. That is something Japan does with Dragon Quest games in Japan nowadays. One thing I find missing in this iceberg is the Dark Cloud cameo in the anime Ghost Stories

Honestly your theory could be spot on, Level 5 did take a lot of inspired by Dragonquest so that could make sense. It's a shame too since that version of Matataki sounded much more organic, I wish we could have heard it 🥲
