I can definitely hear the similarities between Pendragon and the Battle theme in between the two. However, there have been enough changes that I feel it's distinctive enough. One was probably a beta version of the other. Of which one was which we don't know. Pendragon's theme could've been the earlier version or it could've been the refined version. It definitely matches though since it sounds very medieval fantasy with the stringy instruments which is what Pendragon is modeles after. As for whether I've completed the Demon Shaft... I think I've only ever completed it... ONCE. And that was only a few years ago. I never even got to the end of Dark Cloud until I got a full copy of the game towards the end of my teenage years.
The link between Pendragon's theme and the Battle theme is interesting, it allows us to hear the musical development of the track in real time! They definitely were intially basing that design on a more traditional structure of the previous dungeons. But the platforms we got in the end were best. Gave more of an ethereal vibe of the tower. It didn't feel threatening, but definitely eerie. Aga was either killed by Pendragon and the Chronicle 2 was his sword. Or he was corrupted and became Pendragon. The question I have is... how does Steve know this? What's his backstory? What was his life before he became a slingshot? Also I don't know how I missed the fact that a lot of the Dark Chronicle new monsters all appear in this level albeit under different names for a lot of them (although I think the bomber and the boulder monster are from other dungeons in Dark Cloud). And you saying that demon shaft is like a bridge to these two games! Oh that is so perfect to put for my essay when talking about reading these two as literature!
I never got to beat the Demon Shaft as a kid thanks to a corrupted memory card so I only managed to beat it on the PS4 port. When I made it to that final floor it felt so accomplishing to defeat the Black Knight. Damn those Holy Gemrons, they take so many hits!

So it's been a bit since I watched one of your videos, this one was good. Honestly that image of the Beta version Demon Shaft gives me some serious Elder Scrolls: Arena vibes, specifically with how that game had some really cool fantasy art every time you entered a major plot important dungeon that would depict what the outside of the dungeon you're entering is supposed to look like, that Demon Shaft Beta image gave off a very similar energy.

I didnt finished the demon shaft because i made a huge mistake as a kid. I put all the good weapons into one weapon for ungaga 🤡 (smart) so he was the only one fighter on this location. I love this part of the game so much!!!! I love how the place looks like, i love to hear wind and the bell from this abandoned guiant tower, that actually took my heart as a kid. Even now it makes me that special feeling. I also in love how it looks inside, and the music from there oh god, so calm. (I even build the same pretty huge area in minecraft inspired with these brown, growth with mold bricks (no footage saved)) Thank you so much for this video hiddencastle you took my heart again and i also cant believe what it passed like 2 or 3 years, wheb i found this channel and met the greatest content creator and such a nice person 💜

As a kid I always wondered why I never found the flapping duster for one of the dungeons, pretty cool they added in a bonus dungeon with 100 floors to compensate for that.

The mystery of the Flapping was something that always perplexed me as a kid, especially when learning about the JP version and the differences it had it felt like somewhere out in the land of the rising sun they had a mythical version of Dark Cloud with different combat and a backfloor we never saw The best case scenario would be for Sony to add the duster back in to the Greatest Hits release and make it a 2.0 version, we would have got the duster, bonus monsters, weapons and fish provided in the worldwide release along with the exclusive Demon Shaft and flapping duster but Sony were lazy :P
It still makes me gasp that the Pendragon battle theme is Dark Cloud 2's beta battle theme. I guess the beta theme really sounded more of as a boss theme so they gave it to him and made a completely new and fresh one for DC2. I still get an uneasy feeling from that tower. 100 whole floors of nothing but death awaiting anyone who dares to steps in it. And if Aga truly surpassed every challenge that got in his way, what happened at the top? Was it the Dark Genie who made him evil? Was it the Pendragon itself as a punishment for losing against that creature? Or was it the Chronicle 2 sword itself, filling him with darkness as he touched that cursed sword that has been in that tower for thousands and thousands of years? Take a look at the colors of both of the swords. Chronicle has a light green color, usually indicating the good while Chronicle 2's color is reddish-orange indicating evil. Perhaps 2 warriors fought on the top of that same tower. The warrior with the Chronicle being the victorious one sealed Chronicle 2 in that tower so its power could never fall to the wrong hands again. Fast foward years later and Aga came across to that sword. Touching it immediately made the soul of the sword take him over. A few years later and Toan got his hands on the Atlamillia, he was given the power to wield the Chronicle sword (notice how its evolution comes after the Atlamillia sword) indicating that something has gone wrong in the tower. WOW this was so much to take in! I agree the demon shaft is the one most peculiar and unique dungeon of the series, it was so out place, the one that is VERY different. I want to agree with you that Black Night Pendragon Toan's Father, Aga! But its an inference! Although, Aga seems to be a sword gift giver! First experience of Aga is a gift of a sword, the sun sword, right? Aga made Gosuke to give to You. Now that when you beat the black knight, another sword is given to you. 🤔🤔🤔 😯 You got my gears in my head turning... Do you know what exactly steve said about Toan "knowing" Black Knight?? Also a side note, i made it to floor 10 ish in the demon shaft, ever. I stopped as it was kinda repetitive, as we know, one HUNDRED floors😵💫😵💫😵💫, but with these Aga backstory inferences...seems that I might go back and fullfil this new head cannon!

It's always a good day when I see you in the comment section; I'm glad you enjoyed the video ✌🏼😎✌🏼 There's definitely a pattern with the swords being handed down, again it's like he wants to support his son on completing the journey that he was never able to finish himself due to being in the tower With Steve the easiest answer to that is 'let's go to the JP version and see what he says there to compare' but we don't even have that option sadly, Steve himself is a magically being and through using his dialogue with Xiao we learn that he's from Apache Village, an area of immense heat; similar to the cut Flame Dungeon which was located next to Norune which gets covered by the Moon. I feel like maybe he knows more than he's letting on.... 🤔 What did you think of all the NEW Beta content discovered, do you prefer the old or redesigned Chronicle Swords? 👀🌟

It took me years to beat the demon shaft as a kid... in fact I remember being scared of the eerie feeling in the demon shaft so much that I had beaten DC2's Zelmite mines before I returned to the demon shaft.

I finished the demon shaft 3 times. I've always been a post game grind monster so I beat it after my brother beat the main game when we were kids. I remember being so amazed by the black knight pendragon as a child. I beat the entire game twice again as an adult. It's really fun to go through this dungeon honestly. Love this video man!

@@alibaghdady9710 I agree with this comment too. I had Dark Cloud on my ps4 and I got to Dark Heaven before I took a break from it. Sadly my ps4 had a meltdown and I ended up losing progress/money from it, but even worse... I wasn't able to finally beat Dark Cloud entirely on my own. My friend and I played it years ago but he played just much as if not more than I did so I had large chunks of the game I'd never played before
@@DarkCloudCompendium A tiger?? I always saw it being more akin to like a big saber toothed panther-type-like but with a lion-ended tailed tip and a lynx's/leopard's face in design. Lacking the stripes a tiger would have. Kinda of reminds me of the stories I saw on MonsterQuest of a big black cat creature that was kind like black panther-lion thingy in an episode or so. Either way Big Kitty. It is mysterious though that's true. (And yet still, a huge inspiration for Asterkoll's horned cat Cuddles.....)
I didn't finish the Demon Shaft until early last year on the PS4. As a kid, I just didn't have strong enough weapons as my Mobius Bangle for Ruby didn't get the job done and none of my melee characters had good weapons. I think I got up to like the 60th floor? In 2021-2022, I decided to platinum Dark Cloud and did it finally.

On all the research and knowledge of dark cloud that U know, is there anything like in the files of the game or beta cut content that suggests a prologue to dark cloud (anything before dark cloud norune destruction) 3. Are there any other beta images of other dungeons or villages 4. At the end what was that purple box
Hey Liam happy to answer your questions! 1: There's no evidence of any deleted scenes prior to the main intro, although there are several scenes in the debug menu in each village, about 5 or 6 scenes that go unused that were most likely scrapped for time constraints As of now there are no other textures that I have depicting beta dungeons, the Demon Shaft texture I had for 4 years before this video! I do have beta dungeon artifacts from Xiao's puzzles, she really changed a lot in development and maybe it's worth it's own video later on down the line Can you give me a time code for the purple box?
That's a good question and one that I can't answer unfortunately. When you boot up those scenes in the debug menu the game crashes, meaning that Level 5 deleted those scenes prior to the game's release. If we maybe had an earlier build it might give us clues but as of now there really isn't anything aside from the number of scenes that crash the game due to Level 5 deleting the data associated with them :)

Hi there. I was just wandering so u think it's possible to help more fans have access to the enhanced mod? For example the people who don't have pc or people who can't run pcsx2? When pondering on the topic I could think of 2 things. 1. Couldn't u use aethersx2 as it used pcsx2 as a basis for its app. 2.could u "hypothetically" on in the mod then burn the disc to an ISO and have that iso with the enhanced mod. I'm pretty sure 1 wouldn't work because u need pcsx2 percifically to play the mod and I thought 2 wouldn't work because u need the mod then unning in the background to play it. So do u want hink there's a way to get around some of these things and if so would u see your self trying to research how to do something like it. Also please i need a playthrough of dark cloud enhanced mod. Even if it was a vid a month so that it serves as a "break month".
With the dark cloud enhanced mode right now the only way to play it is on PCSX2 there isn't any plans to bring the mod to any other platforms yet due to how the program works, it needs PCSX2 to function We're working on getting it open source, hopefully when that happens it will open the doors for future ports of our mod programs:)
Honestly on playthrough like 9, and finalizing my personal method for going 1-100 in one attempt. (Just finished an attempt at this last night and got to floor 88 in one attempt.)

I think there's a good reason behind it when you look at the Dark Genie character, he's pure evil and deliberately spared some people to suffer alone, the Mayor was a leader now with no people to lead, Ungaga was a warrior with no one left to defend

So it's been a bit since I watched one of your videos, this one was good. Honestly that image of the Beta version Demon Shaft gives me some serious Elder Scrolls: Arena vibes, specifically with how that game had some really cool fantasy art every time you entered a major plot important dungeon that would depict what the outside of the dungeon you're entering is supposed to look like, that Demon Shaft Beta image gave off a very similar energy.

Yo yo Panic at the Brunch! It's crazy how fast time flies, I'm happy that we beat the Demon shaft later on as it feels like a new peice of Dark Cloud media since we never experienced it
I didnt finished the demon shaft because i made a huge mistake as a kid. I put all the good weapons into one weapon for ungaga 🤡 (smart) so he was the only one fighter on this location.
I love this part of the game so much!!!! I love how the place looks like, i love to hear wind and the bell from this abandoned guiant tower, that actually took my heart as a kid. Even now it makes me that special feeling. I also in love how it looks inside, and the music from there oh god, so calm. (I even build the same pretty huge area in minecraft inspired with these brown, growth with mold bricks (no footage saved))

As a kid I always wondered why I never found the flapping duster for one of the dungeons, pretty cool they added in a bonus dungeon with 100 floors to compensate for that.

Oh for sure! The mystery of the Flapping was something that always perplexed me as a kid, especially when learning about the JP version and the differences it had it felt like somewhere out in the land of the rising sun they had a mythical version of Dark Cloud with different combat and a backfloor we never saw
The best case scenario would be for Sony to add the duster back in to the Greatest Hits release and make it a 2.0 version, we would have got the duster, bonus monsters, weapons and fish provided in the worldwide release along with the exclusive Demon Shaft and flapping duster but Sony were lazy :P
It still makes me gasp that the Pendragon battle theme is Dark Cloud 2's beta battle theme. I guess the beta theme really sounded more of as a boss theme so they gave it to him and made a completely new and fresh one for DC2.
I still get an uneasy feeling from that tower. 100 whole floors of nothing but death awaiting anyone who dares to steps in it. And if Aga truly surpassed every challenge that got in his way, what happened at the top? Was it the Dark Genie who made him evil? Was it the Pendragon itself as a punishment for losing against that creature? Or was it the Chronicle 2 sword itself, filling him with darkness as he touched that cursed sword that has been in that tower for thousands and thousands of years? Take a look at the colors of both of the swords. Chronicle has a light green color, usually indicating the good while Chronicle 2's color is reddish-orange indicating evil. Perhaps 2 warriors fought on the top of that same tower. The warrior with the Chronicle being the victorious one sealed Chronicle 2 in that tower so its power could never fall to the wrong hands again. Fast foward years later and Aga came across to that sword. Touching it immediately made the soul of the sword take him over. A few years later and Toan got his hands on the Atlamillia, he was given the power to wield the Chronicle sword (notice how its evolution comes after the Atlamillia sword) indicating that something has gone wrong in the tower.

WOW this was so much to take in! I agree the demon shaft is the one most peculiar and unique dungeon of the series, it was so out place, the one that is VERY different. I want to agree with you that Black Night Pendragon Toan's Father, Aga! But its an inference! Although, Aga seems to be a sword gift giver! First experience of Aga is a gift of a sword, the sun sword, right? Aga made Gosuke to give to You. Now that when you beat the black knight, another sword is given to you. 🤔🤔🤔 😯

There's definitely a pattern with the swords being handed down, again it's like he wants to support his son on completing the journey that he was never able to finish himself due to being in the tower
With Steve the easiest answer to that is 'let's go to the JP version and see what he says there to compare' but we don't even have that option sadly, Steve himself is a magically being and through using his dialogue with Xiao we learn that he's from Apache Village, an area of immense heat; similar to the cut Flame Dungeon which was located next to Norune which gets covered by the Moon. I feel like maybe he knows more than he's letting on.... 🤔

It took me years to beat the demon shaft as a kid... in fact I remember being scared of the eerie feeling in the demon shaft so much that I had beaten DC2's Zelmite mines before I returned to the demon shaft.

I finished the demon shaft 3 times. I've always been a post game grind monster so I beat it after my brother beat the main game when we were kids. I remember being so amazed by the black knight pendragon as a child. I beat the entire game twice again as an adult. It's really fun to go through this dungeon honestly. Love this video man!

@@alibaghdady9710 I agree with this comment too. I had Dark Cloud on my ps4 and I got to Dark Heaven before I took a break from it. Sadly my ps4 had a meltdown and I ended up losing progress/money from it, but even worse... I wasn't able to finally beat Dark Cloud entirely on my own. My friend and I played it years ago but he played just much as if not more than I did so I had large chunks of the game I'd never played before
In my current playthrough on PS4 this is my second time in the Demon Shaft.
I definitely think BKP is him.

@@DarkCloudCompendium A tiger?? I always saw it being more akin to like a big saber toothed panther-type-like but with a lion-ended tailed tip and a lynx's/leopard's face in design. Lacking the stripes a tiger would have. Kinda of reminds me of the stories I saw on MonsterQuest of a big black cat creature that was kind like black panther-lion thingy in an episode or so.
Either way Big Kitty. It is mysterious though that's true.
(And yet still, a huge inspiration for Asterkoll's horned cat Cuddles.....)
I didn't finish the Demon Shaft until early last year on the PS4. As a kid, I just didn't have strong enough weapons as my Mobius Bangle for Ruby didn't get the job done and none of my melee characters had good weapons. I think I got up to like the 60th floor? In 2021-2022, I decided to platinum Dark Cloud and did it finally.

It's funny you mention that I went through the exact same thing as a kid back in 2002, I just started using the Demon Shaft as this thing I would do if I had no other games to play, I got to floor 50 max. I only cleared it in 2015 when I started getting back into Dark Cloud!🤭

@@DarkCloudCompendium I never got round to that one and then later it seemed to become very rare. - In fact I might not have initially known the two games were even related due to the name change and the different style of graphics.

2. On all the research and knowledge of dark cloud that U know, is there anything like in the files of the game or beta cut content that suggests a prologue to dark cloud (anything before dark cloud norune destruction)
3. Are there any other beta images of other dungeons or villages

1: There's no evidence of any deleted scenes prior to the main intro, although there are several scenes in the debug menu in each village, about 5 or 6 scenes that go unused that were most likely scrapped for time constraints
As of now there are no other textures that I have depicting beta dungeons, the Demon Shaft texture I had for 4 years before this video! I do have beta dungeon artifacts from Xiao's puzzles, she really changed a lot in development and maybe it's worth it's own video later on down the line

That's a good question and one that I can't answer unfortunately. When you boot up those scenes in the debug menu the game crashes, meaning that Level 5 deleted those scenes prior to the game's release.
If we maybe had an earlier build it might give us clues but as of now there really isn't anything aside from the number of scenes that crash the game due to Level 5 deleting the data associated with them :)

Hi there. I was just wandering so u think it's possible to help more fans have access to the enhanced mod? For example the people who don't have pc or people who can't run pcsx2? When pondering on the topic I could think of 2 things.
1. Couldn't u use aethersx2 as it used pcsx2 as a basis for its app.
2.could u "hypothetically" on in the mod then burn the disc to an ISO and have that iso with the enhanced mod.
I'm pretty sure 1 wouldn't work because u need pcsx2 percifically to play the mod and I thought 2 wouldn't work because u need the mod then unning in the background to play it.
So do u want hink there's a way to get around some of these things and if so would u see your self trying to research how to do something like it.
Also please i need a playthrough of dark cloud enhanced mod. Even if it was a vid a month so that it serves as a "break month".
With the dark cloud enhanced mode right now the only way to play it is on PCSX2 there isn't any plans to bring the mod to any other platforms yet due to how the program works, it needs PCSX2 to function
We're working on getting it open source, hopefully when that happens it will open the doors for future ports of our mod programs:)

The beta and cut content of the Demon Shaft is really a microcosm of all the little things Level 5 wanted to implement but were able to, from beta sword designs belonging to cut characters to the floating Demon Shaft resembling the Floating Continent of the 1999 TGS Demo; it felt like Level 5 wanted to fill that area with all the scrapped ideas they couldn't use!

There was the earliest beta transitioning scene which I showed in this video, an earlier version of the final elevator with a different design which I forgot to show off and then the final one we see in game!

I think there's a good reason behind it when you look at the Dark Genie character, he's pure evil and deliberately spared some people to suffer alone, the Mayor was a leader now with no people to lead, Ungaga was a warrior with no one left to defend
