    Well I've been subscribed for few years now. Always excellent information, but this one hits home with me Paul. I use both my tractors for moving trailers, the little BX for the small all aluminum utility trailers and the 6060 for the larger ones. Last fall I ended up being rushed by ambulance to the Health Science complex. Moving a 7 ton Dump on the fork lift ( centre balanced) I couldn't get the coupler to release from the ball. I thought I had the down pressure off and went out to tap the couple with a hammer and woke up in emergency. I was standing way clear on the tractor but with the down pressure it shot across my parking lot about three feet and came right down across my leg. I was unconscious for minutes before my wife came running out of the office to call an ambulance. The fork lift attachment ribbed threw my jeans and threw the muscle separating tendons and just missed my knee. I'm very lucky to have not lost my leg, my back or worse. Your a god send of a man to be concerned about safety and doing these videos. I have a lot more respect for these tractors now, I learned the hard way and never compromise safety anymore.

      Omg Ed. That was a close one. Sure happy you came out of it ok but man it was bad. I see things the people are doing and I cringe. I'm no angel either but realize these machines can kill us. That being said I thought these series of videos might spread awareness to safety or the lack of it but I'm not so sure I'll continue doing them. People sure get bent out of shape listening to me preach lol.
      Thanks for sharing. I'm so happy your ok bud and I for one appreciate the fact you shared your experance. Keep well my friend.

    top shelf video!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Paul and i am a dump truck driver and i agree with you on your statement on these turkeys that don't know how to back up, i sit and just shake my head sometimes at the drivers in the pit. i work out of the Lafarge pit ALOT and they have a rule of no backing up to the face of the pile well it took me a while to understand why, until i was sitting there one day when the sand pile decided to fall and when it fell the whole side of the pile came down and had i been sitting there there was a real good chance my truck could have been buried, well, that one instance woke me up and from then on i have no problem sitting off to the side and waiting for the loader operator to bring me the material. i agree with you don't be shy ask for help if you need a spotter there is no shame in it at all

    Never stop learning and always be mindful of what your doing and whats going on around you. Just takes a split second for all heck to break loose.
    Keep up with the safety mentions Paul.....if it makes people talk, right or wrong, at least it makes everyone think.
    One thing to mention is for people to READ their owners manuals and it should have in it how much weight the tractor can safely tow in such and such configuration. I know my B26 has such ratings in the Owners manual.

    Thanks Paul. Count me as another who doesn't mind safety videos. Why? Because there are many like me who purchased a tractor for the first time, and are learning as we go. Videos like yours are invaluable to us. I haven't seen all your videos, so this may be redundant, but I think a video on not using your tractor over its abilities ( based on its size ), would be a great help. You know, "right tool for the right job" type of thing. Thanks again.

    Hey Paul I personally feel like the safety talks are great. I take safety very serious. And I have taught several emergency driver training classes. I even learned several things myself in those classed. We all take a lot of things for granted that if someone has been doing something for a X amount of time they now what they are doing. But they may not now way it's not safe to do it like that. All we can do as educators is to show them the proper way to do something and hope they use it every time. And if it starts a national incident at least it will be done safety. But I know some people just can't be taught. Just keep on keeping us safe. And thanks to you. I agree with you Paul. Your video is spot on. Some people will not know that it is too heavy until it's too late. One more thing that is important to remember. Most tractors have only 3 stability points. Right-Rear, Left-Rear, and Front-Center-Pivot. Once you overload the front, and lift the rear tires off the ground, your left pivoting on the front center of the tractor which is very unstable.
    I sure wish you would re-consider and would continue to post your safety tip videos. I too have operated equipment for more than 30 years and I still find things in your videos that improve my abilities and reduce my risks.
    Thank You for your time and dedication.

    Way to go Paul; l know you know the "right way" l believe 100% for moving trailers with the rear of tractor. Front axles are 1/3 are as strong as the rear axle ,along with compounded leverage of the loader arms projection, an accident, wreck,or tradjedy is bound to happen. Thanks so much for the reinoration on proper use of tractors.

    Excellent advice and video ! I've been a heavy equipment operator since I was 21, mostly cranes. I certainly agreed with your always be thinking about what could happen and have a backup plan for sure. Another thing is before you operate anything not only look all around your machine but look UP. This is such a habit for me now that I look up before I get in my truck or even the shower. lol

    I always figured if you are lifting the rear tires off the ground because of the weight you have in front you are also taking a chance of breaking something in the front end. They just weren't designed for that. Love your videos and I watched another video by a different poster that really paid attention to your video on damaging your loader arms. I always learn something from your videos so you are making a difference for sure Thanks

    Hi Paul - Thanks for posting videos like these. I hope all the positive comments gets you to change your mind about making safety videos. I went from owning a small Husquavarna lawn tractor to a Kioti CS2210 sub compact with a FEL and MMM. With small lawn tractors you can somewhat be "the boss" (ie. pick them up if you're stuck, lean on one side to prevent roll-over, etc), but with sub compacts or bigger, you have to develop a respect and operate them safely, otherwise they'll bite ya. I don't know how many times I've seen people going about their work with the ROPS folded over, no ballast, and carrying their loads too high. Some people are simply not aware of the dangers. Granted there's no excuse for ignorance, it's just the nature of the beast. Anyway, keep on keepin' on - I really enjoy your videos. I'm inspired by your mods which give me a lot of great ideas as I keep dumping money in my new tractor LOL. You and Kathy take care!

    very good advice, I always tow with my tow bar on the rear.. also mention if you have not done so earlier , wear the seatbelt all the time. I live on the side of a mountain and could roll my tractor without even knowing it is going over and injury would result
    so get your ROPS up and your seatbelt on .

    Paul at around 7min in the video you say put it in 4WD i think you forgot too say that the gear in the front end are small gear and if the load is to heavy break the gear $$$$ and still not safe.
    use the tow bar is the best option or 3 point hitch .
    and like you say people should ask first for safety issue.
    and it's nice too see some one talking about safety issue and keep one the good work.

    well i guess i should have watched both videos before i commented on the other one lol 20/20 hind site i was taught when i got my cdl to use the mirrors for all backing but since i was doing it long before i got my cdl it just came natural the other thing is stop get out and look if you are unsure and always walk around prior to backing and have a mental picture of what you are doing and how you want it to be when you are done, the radio idea is great and i use it my self the problem with that is the person on the other end of the radio knowing what you want and how to communicate it to you even after you explain what you want and how to tell you over the radio i need to know where to put the trailer not the tractor/truck it has gotten to the point i dont want any ones help unless i specifically ask for it. and that is usually just to tell me when to stop no matter how hard you try you can only give the best information you can to keep people safe and hope they take your advice you are giving good information with your excellent /ENTERTAINING videos when some one doesn't like them blame it on Pauly lol

    Thanks for another good video about safety. I like your comments regarding ways the herd can be thinned. I would like to add an important point that you did not cover regarding overloading a Front End Loader (FEL). The point is that almost nobody realizes that *all* of the tractor's front weight bears on a single point. The tractor acts identical to having a single tire under the radiator. Even through there are two widely spaced front tires, the front axle freely pivots, permitting each tire can go up or down, but this also permits the tractor to tilt left or right. Therefore an FEL can lift a load above that pivot and the greater the weight and the higher the load, the more likely the tractor will tip. I can assure you that if you have a load heavy enough to make the back tires "dance" and you lift the load high enough, the tractor will tip over EVEN IF it is on your garage floor, simply because it would be unlikely that the left-right weight distribution is perfect. When operating on any other surface, the treachery increases. This is why rear ballast and keeping weight low is so important. Example: search TH-cam for "BX25D Rollover". Keep talking about safety!

    It's weird that this video popped up in my feed. This just happened to me last week! I have a Kioti CS2410, I had the bucket filled with concrete block as I was going down a hill for some reason the tractor came out of 4wd! I was free falling down that hill, sure I was going to die. Dropped the bucket, all the block came flying out and the tractor stopped. I had done this many times before, what changed was I had taken my backhoe off so the weight distribution was all forward going down that hill. Side note, after this experience I went to talk to the dealer. I was then told that a CS2410 is a glorified lawn mower. I asked why do they put an FEL and a backhoe on it? I was told because some men don't want to use a shovel in the flower garden. Can you say tractor for sale!

    I agree with you paul, there are a few instances where i would find it ok, say you wanted to just tuck the trailer tight in a barn for winter, or just simple short movements, you probably wont jar anything out of alignment or hurt anything.The other instance where i would find it acceptable it for moving 4 wheel wagons, no weight is on the tongue at all. just way easier and really wont cause any damage, but again its mainly for at a barn trying to get for instance a wagon of hay in. They can be a real bugger. I used to work in a livestock event center, and we would have to move trailers with fork trucks all the time, but they are way more stable than a tractor with an fel. It works well to get them in tight places where its basically impossible to back into with a truck. But driving across a field with a trailer is risky at best they are designed to be hitched and supported, not like wagons that are designed to be just hitched and pulled.

    Great video, Scared myself going down a slope with an engine in the bucket, yep, front tires went over a bump, and that set it in motion. no brakes, and worse on turf tires. luckily I dropped the bucket.lifting with the tires turned wasnt a good idea either, gives the tractor a chance of going over instead of lifting the back evenly until the load touched the ground.

    Pulling trailers with a tractor is one of the more dangerous things you can do. A lot of people making new tractor videos on TH-cam have no experience, nor read manuals. People don't seem to understand matching weight differences to balance loads. I have a neighbor, a modern homesteader who bought a used small Kubota and a trailer twice as large. He did hook it up to the draw bar which is correct but his tractor did not have the weight to match the load. I watched him one day ride up a hill pulling this trailer full of logs and the front end of the tractor started lifting up. I thought he was going to kill himself. The front end rose up about 5 feet before he stopped and gained control. I ended up taking my tractor over and towed it for him. TH-cam needs videos like yours Paul to educate people from doing dumb things. Hopefully if they are unwilling to read a manual or ask for help, they see your video.

  • @subwarpspeed
    @subwarpspeed 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Besides the braking problem and bending the loader there is always the danger of tipping over a tractor sideways since the front axle is pivoting. And one should not only think of the static load but dynamic - like you have a big load on the FEL and it is not centered and you go down with the back wheel in a little hole and suddenly the tractor is swept over sideways. Yes, they pivot of the front axle will reach a limit but it may be to late in the motion of the roll.
    And generally, just wondering, do people who haven't grown up with driving tractors tried to back up trailers with them the proper way, in the rear attachment point? If they only tried reversing trailers with cars and said no more they might have gone for the not so good version of using the pallet work with a tow ball when they bought a tractor. I grow up with a garden tractor and an old farm tractor. The good thing is that you have a good overview of the situation. In a car it might be a lot harder to know were you got the trailer and you only look through the mirrors which have you forced to estimate, not know, the trailer position. I can reverse some short distance in a field with the tractor, small square baler and a rigid trailer. Even possible with two trailers. And I have small tolerances when I reverse the equipment into the barn (one by one). Still - reversing a trailer with a sedan car while only looking into the mirrors is not the easiest task for me. So I would hope new tractor owners can try the way you present here instead of some attachment for the FEL forks.

People just don't like being preached to. We got more thumbs down per viewership in this video than our other 550 videos and more arguments than I wanted to be involved in. Enjoyed your post. Hope others read it. Thanks.

      You are right. Even though drilling a hole in a fork is a time honored tradition, there is not a manufacturer out there that will say it's ok. Yes OSHA will gig you for it.

    Two Thumbs Up - for standing up for giving out that warning about the forks on a front end loader used to haul trailers.

  • @michaelohara2161
    @michaelohara2161 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I welded a receiver on the top of the bucket, for a ball mount.
    It has moved my trailers around nicely for years.
    There is too much leverage working against a small tractor at the end of forks.

    • @7863348
      @7863348  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing should be pulled from the front of a tractor because if the rear wheels lift off the ground while towing you have no brakes to stop.

    • @michaelohara2161
      @michaelohara2161 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are confusing towing with something else. Towing should not and can Not be done in front of a vehicle.
      You are shuffling in the yard to park.
      Some people should not have tractors.
      You always have the proper amount of counter weight. The loader can Not lift the rear wheels that way. Move close to the ground just like any hi lo does.
      The bucket will hit the ground and stop you, if you disobeyed physics.
      You have to use your common sense.
      Towing by definition is behind.
      I do not use forks to move trailers.

    Paul, hope you are getting better. I just built a ballast box for my BX25D. I started with a box I had lying around, it is 33" x 18"" x 12" deep, made of 3/8" daimond plate. Like yours it has a 2" receiver. I have put some old 1/2" chain in it, (probably can pull stuff with that lol ) but how do I know how much weight I should have, any thoughts? Take care (and don"t pester the nurses).

    Are the front and rear wheels "linked" or are both axlse driven independently by hydralics? I'm asking because I really don't know.

    • @7863348
      @7863348  ปีที่แล้ว

      The front and rear are only linked when the tractor is put in 4X4. Because of this it’s the safest way to tow with your tractor. In 2X4 the front and rear differentials are independent from one another.

    Posted on April 8 2018, I ran across this video and I saw it twice because yes I'm guilty as sin. I have a Kubota B-7300 HTS with FEL and several implements. I also have a 16 ft. utility trailer that I used to haul my Kubota on. Now I don't have a ball on the bucket or front end for that matter and I don't have forks either. I could gotten a set of clamp-on forks but I realized that's not the right set up. My bucket does not detatch ( can't spell it ) ulness I take off the bolts that hold the bucket in place. Nope. I now as I mentioned is I'm guilty in a way I guess, reason being is when I want to move my unloaded utility trailer from say the backyard to my truck because my truck will not go between the house and "swamp" as it is kinda, a large soft spot cause of wet weather spring or whatever, so I need to move the trailer. So as I do so, I pull up as close as I can to the trailer tounge and lower the bucket level then let the tounge rest inside the bucket then take the two saftey chains and hook to the upper lip of the bucket then slowly and I mean S-L-O-W-L-Y move forward thus having the bucket tilted back and not raised because keeping the trailer as level as possible. Now my way of thinking which I admit I don't do much Ha, I know the 16 ft trailer unloaded is heavy but not as heavy as my Kubota which with the FEL and whatever implement i have on the back, then on lever ground and even a ever so slightly slope is better way of saying it I know that I need a counter weight on the back so if it were to happen the real wheels have a chance staying in contact with the ground and in 4-Wheel Drive I know all 4 wheels have traction or I guess better control. so I make sure I have either a grooming mower, scrape blade, box blade, bush hog, something back there that has some weight then there is a lesser chance of rear wheels leaving the ground. Yes, I know that may not be the proper way and it may be a stupid method but so far with my Kubota weighing in about little over a ton with FEL and whatever I have on the back of it then I stand a chance of getting the trailer where I can easily access with my truck.
    Now this is a extra long comment but it's the inner-self I want to share with you because I heard of these things happen. I use common sense some of which is the back country former tobacco farmer sense but I wanted to express my experiences in moving unloaded trailers or even carrying a piece of equipment from one spot to another with two logging chains wrapped around my bucket and fastened in a way that the weight is even on both sides so it reduces the chances of warping the bucket arms.
    I know this is not what you talked about on the safety aspect of this but that's what I do when moving something around. Right, Maybe so, maybe not. Wrong ? I'd say it may be but so far I do have sense knowing that having counter weight on the back and make sure the weight on the bucket is fastened in a way that it may not warp the arms.
    Paul, I'm so, so, so sorry this has been the longest comment I've sent yet but I couldn't help myself from letting my inner self get out. Saftey is the best way doing things you bet it is.
    I also enjoyed this video and you are as I said many times before, you and Kathy have came into my life and the two of the BEST folks that I have ran in to whether in person or like this from videos. Paul and Kathy, I wish you all the best and please take care. God bless you both.

    None of us know what we don't know. Just because someone or industry has done something for 30 years doesn't make it correct. Manufactures state an operator needs to read and be familiar with all functions and limitations via the provided manual prior to operating. Read the manual , take a safety course, know your own skillset & abilities. We all can learn new things. Think first cause if you get dead 💀; it's for a very long time.

    You don't need to make safety videos. 1.All these tractors come with an owners manual. 2. Anyone who graduated highschool should have a basic knowledge of physics. If they didn't pay attention in school too bad. They can still fall back to the manual. If they don't read the manual then let's hope they don't breed before their stupidity catches up with them.
