    I have a Walmart hardtail I got for $300 it has disc brakes and rotors, all the gears and a pretty decent looking frame. I put some WTB double wall wheels on it, some Maxiss tires race face crank Easton bars and a azonc stem. Next is some hydraulic brakes, and I have a fox front shock I have to clean up an rebuild. Makes a good pump track bike

    I have a Giant Fathom 1. It comes with everything you would need for some aggressive biking except for the fact that the rear caliper is 2 piston. Swap out the grips and rear caliper and you're good to go for some serious riding. I personally swapped the factory Ardent Race tires out for an Assegai in the front and a MInion DHf in the rear because I live in Norcal where the trails are always wet and filled with leaves and debris. I strongly recommend it because it's cheaper than every other bike on this list at $1850 USD and comes with roughly the same components.

    I recently got the Marin San Quentin 3 from my local bike shop, my first REAL mountain bike that's not a department store cheapie. Already sprained my leg going down a horrible local double-black like an absolute imbecile haha! The problem is I just feel WAY too confident on this bike for my skill level, it performs amazing! Definitely going to have to learn some better technique on some milder trails before attempting that again!

    I don’t know why the Giant Fathom 29 1 doesn’t get more love. At $1850 US it’s a steal. Lifetime frame warranty, tubeless set up, boost thru axle spacing and a solid build kit make it a great choice.

    I own a 2021 Marin San Quentin 3. It’s an amazing all around bike. It’s a 27.5” with 130mm of travel. It rips at the bike park, can have fun at the pump track and DJ’s, and I can hit most enduro trails in Southern California. I went 27.5” because I’m 5’9” and wanted something playful. This bike is most happy at SkyPark bike park. Stock spec is full Deore for $2400.

    I rock a heavily upgraded Fuse and can vouch for it's capability and versatility. I built mine into a strong 140mm trail hardtail that chases down FS bikes on my local trails while still being capable of park and enduro riding. You can set it up single speed because of the sliding dropouts. You could build it up short travel for a "downcountry" hardtail. It is priced steep for sure, and there are more progressive hardtail but unlike other frames...the Fuse can kind of do it all.

    • @buckroger6456
      @buckroger6456 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I went with the 27.5 sport model. So far I've upgraded the fork to a pike ultimate and a i9 360 back country wheel set. Got the bike down to 29 1/2lbs

      @buckroger6456 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@letsgo_inc I got the 27.5 sport and it was 31.09lbs. I swapped out the fork for a pike ultimate, the wheels for a i9 360 back country wheel set with the hydra hub, and the cassette for the one hug and a kiss sram 12 speed. All that dropped the weight to 29.10lbs. My next upgrade and final upgrades are the cranks, bottom bracket, brakes, rotors, rear derailleur and dropper post.

  • @coonepaul
    @coonepaul ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Best hardtail you can ride is the one you build yourself, to your own spec.
    I’m riding a 29er Ti hardtail, 485mm reach, 63.5 deg head angle, 75 deg seat angle, 435mm chain stays, full Renthal cockpit, 160mm Fox 36 Factory Grip2 fork, Fox Factory Transfer dropper post 170mm, SRAM GX AXS groupset, Magura MT7 brakes on 180/200 rotors, Hope 35mm rims on Hope Pro4 hubs, Specialized Hillbilly / Butchers 2.6 tyres.
    Cost me about the same as a top spec off-the-shelf alloy hardtail, but shreds harder than any of them.

    As a heavier rider (pushing ~280, 6'2") went with the new Surly Krampus - mostly due to the frame flexibility for larger tires, the feel of steel on the road, and the updated specs vs older models. Its a beast and pretty heavy, but I can transition it to a Bikepacking bike if I get there and get a full sus as a second bike. My only negative is the super short dropper tube.

      @@TopToBottomMTB The Kona Honzo ESD is only $200 more than the Specialized Fuse, and a far better bike in every way. As one of the first brands to offer an aggressive hardtail, you are doing Kona a real disservice by leaving them off this list. Steel frame, adjustable dropouts for single speed, 417mm chainstays... recognize.

    Amazing list and your video is top notch! New sub here and looking forward to more content. I’m hoping for more content and details on medium to high end mountain bikes and components with more details such as tire clearance and fork offset, plus unique features such as adjustable drop out length or cable routing options. My two newer hardtail’s are Esker Hayduke that has both a 29er and 27.5 plus wheel options and a Japhy that is 29er and I built a SS with the adjustable drop out to tension my chain. Anyway keep the videos like this coming!

    Cannodale Trail SE2 I got it on sale for $1500, I’d change the Pedals, Grips but you possibly upgrade to NX derailuer & shifter or 4 piston brakes although it’s really not needed. With upgrades still less then $2000. It’s light, agile, stable I’ve ridden down double black diamond trails no problems.

    I think you have a a Marin San Quentin 1 or 2 and... I have no idea what else. (Commercial of course.)
    I really like your videos, I think I just have different desires from a hardtail. Where you take that Meta AM, I bet I use my Full Sus.
    I don't think I like a "hardcore" hardtail. Something like the San Quentin slackened a degree or two for quicker, less body English handling would be perfect.
    Props for including Vitus. Never heard of them. I was stoked until I saw how long that chainstay was.

    I have a Salsa from 2013 with a 71 degree HTA and 21" seat tube. Its tall and steep. I hate how tall it is, but I do like the steepness. Unfortunately, its not very nimble with a 450mm chainstay. You see to prefer HTA of around 65/66. That seems, to me, very downhill specific oriented. There are no huge downhill tracks here. Mostly flat tracks here with some drops and climbs. Lots of limestone and rock beds. Would I really want a geo like you suggest, or are you forgetting that not all MTB'ers downhill on mountains? I want something thats easy to manual and only really need 100-120mm travel. Being 6'4" the slacker the geo, the longer the bike gets, and an XL with a HTA of 64 ends up feeling like a limousine.
