What great videos you have produced, albeit I’ve only seen two, entertaining, informative, and instructive. Another tip. If you don't want oil on your woodwork, use cheep white candle wax. Rub it along the sides of your saw. I enjoyed the video. Very interesting.
Thank you for this informative video, which I was not aware of when it was posted in March. I understand your desire for a solid bench top, but what I don't understand is why the Heritage line is raised and not placed directly on top of the bench, then add another level for the Main line. There must be some big advantage to raising the Heritage line. Raising the Heritage line does add a lot of extra woodwork (material and physical work).

A bit of Jiggery Pokery, a Trusty Rusty and a pinch of salt. It all added up to a fantastic update. This is a layout build to watch. Thanks Richard, great to see you working apace on the new New Junction.
Hi Rich, As an alternative to the cork supplied on a roll, a number of the larger DIY stores have this cork in 12 inch squares (10 in a pack). This is a cheaper way to buy cork & you don’t have problems with the cork curling up. Hope that helps.

When I was a kid in the Seventies I used to dream of my engines being able to make sounds. Now it has arrived I really don’t like the synthesised sounds , give me the silent running any day and leave the sounds to be imagined in my mind!

Not a model railroader myself, but I do work with creating scenery in miniature as an occasional miniature wargamer (Seven Years War in Europe), and it is really cool to see how the other half lives if you will.
Exciting times! Understand most of it is only temporary right now but Everard Junction is right when he says to cut the cork underlay into short strips and then piece it together in lengths, as it flexes a bit. Less waste then.
Truly loving this series. Your channel along with a couple of others have inspired me to get modelling again. I come from the Allan Downes era of model railway building (no where near as good I might add and that will give you some idea when I last put track to board). So going to start building again as the time is right. Thank you for the inspiration and keep up the good work. I might even start a(nother) YT channel.

I have been looking at Peco code 75 but hear that older stock may not run on it due to the flange depth on the wheels.

For supports like yours I personally make them in one length of 3 by 1 as a 2.4 metre length,glue the two parts with a mega strong PVA. Then I cut to lengths as required with a chop saw, then 3.2 mm pilot holes and 40 mm eighths screws. Layouts coming on nicely, looking forward to seeing the main line started.
The Bullhead track is very nice and hopefully the slips and medium radius points will be available soon. I've seen a video on Albion Yard's web site suggesting they are getting close. My layout is stalled until they become available, which is kind of good because that kind of gives me the chance to save for them - they won't be cheap! For your mini saw, clamp some battens either side of it to ensure you get a nice straight line.
Nice to see a fellow bike rider who railroad models. I don't like cork underlay , too noisy when ballasted. I prefer Woodland Scenics foam underlay as it's preformed, comes in useful lengths, glues down and you can glue the track down without the need for unsightly track nails.
Good to see the progress. I'd be interested in the ballasting stage as prior to adding it to my layout the trains ran quite quietly, however, after I'd laid and glued the ballast, they were much more noisy, so it'll be interesting to see how you avoid this.
Nice progress - interesting video, thanks👍😊😊 As I noticed that you have a pot of Copydex - without teaching anyone to suck eggs and as a word of wisdom to the wise (and as you've used cork underlay) - use a rubberised (Copydex) type glue for ballast and/or gluing the track down, or else the track bed will vibrate and be noisy (unpleasantly so). Good point about the mini saw - they are good👍😊👍 Keep up the good work👍😊
I'm not very familiar with railways and railway equipment used overseas as I'm from The States. Enjoying the series and seeing what other modelers do.. very interested in seeing how you model your Heritage railroad.
FWIW, rust on old trusty saw isn't the main issue. Modern hard point saws are cheap and considered throw-away because it's difficult to sharpen them. Labour cost of sharpening old Diston etc was much more than plastic and steel. Teeth stay sharp longer than old times but then dead. You'll get cleaner, safer, more accurate cuts with new saw for about £5.
Richard, why not put a section of flex between the switches with a slight curve. You can always test it. I do see an issue if you use a point motor as it sits at the moment. It might fit, but will your hands fit in there when you go to mount it? A tip about the mini saw. I did take my mini saw to a piece of Expanded Poly Styrofoam instead of a knife. It made a great smooth cut. However, it produced a very fine blue dust that covered me. Lots of fun trying to vacuum that off me.
You can save a bit of time by using Turbodrive screws, they have a drill bit (as such) formed into the screw itself so you can just screw straight into wood and they cut their own hole as they go in.
DCC Concepts via their Legacy Models line have just brought out some new flex track in Code 75 & 100 with better sleeper spacing closer to reality in OO. What puts me off bullhead is a lack of all electrofrog points. Nice to see the 57 out for a run!
Just took a look at the DCC Concepts stuff. I can only see stuff to make track, not ready made and the rail is stainless steel not nickel silver. Isn't SS is nigh on impossible to solder to (for droppers), harder to make curves from and also less conductive than nickle silver? Ah, just noticed they make special solder and flux, so that's one obstacle out of the way. I tried re-spacing Peco's track with poor results, you have got to admire the tenacity and patience of Richard and Tim of EJ and Scrapline, but they are both exceptional modellers. My main objection to the Bullhead points is the eye-watering costs. They look lovely and will work well for either DC or DCC layouts.
Cracking on Richard. Going to be some height when the mainline is installed too. Somehow I doubt Lu Lu will be allowed topside by then 😂. Looking forward to the next installment.
Hi Richard, good to see you have managed to crack on with the build and made some decent progress despite being distracted by your primary duty in life, i.e. being Lulu’s ball boy! 🎾 Always interesting to see people’s methods for building raised track beds, and I like that you screw things together first instead of glueing and screwing straight off the bat! 🤔 That bull head rail does look rather nice, so perhaps at some point in the future I will have to investigate it more closely! Sadly, the lack of pointwork is a bit off putting for now but I am sure new additions to the range will be forthcoming 😎 By the way, I don’t know if that diagram I sent was of any use to you in the end. Just a warning with rocking horses plop use gloves if you pick it up otherwise you’ll get splinters 😂,the bullhead rail looks really realistic once it’s had ballast and weathering ,I think everard junction used it on the branch line ,a big woof woof to LuLu mate and all the best Richard ,Mark 😊👍🏻

Richard the cross over leading back to the engine shed (4:17 minutes) loos as if you will have the baseboard joint through one set of the points which may cause you problems over time may be worth moving the cross over to the left to avoid the issue
Great to see things running at NewNew Junction. Most people would be happy with the heritage line you've got going on, but wait there will be more woh. I see the boss had to make her appearance, Lulu knows the score, trains are rubbish ;)
Brand new subscriber here. I really enjoy your new layout build. I like the build more so then actually running trains but that’s just me. Question 1, why didn’t you use foam for the upper level verses wood? Question 2, is that your twin brother or are you doing spilt screen? You definitely have me thinking mate. Drops are totally unnecessary on every piece of track. I have done small and very large layouts (club layouts) for the past 50 years and never have we had drops closer that 8 feet. All layouts have operated very well. Next time you want a saw, try a Japanese pull saw. They work great and you get 2 for the price of 1 in that they have rip teeth on one side and cross cut on the other. A lot are made from stainless steel also...Remember that I have had a lot of experience because I'm so old !!!

Wont that increase the transport weight puting lots of wood on top of wood? If you need to drop the weight use foam boards like luke town does then you can get the 3d shape you want for the landscape & cut the holes for motors. Also you could open up your garage door to test the exibition mode on your driveway providing its flat.

Hello from México! I have two questions Do you consider minimun radio for your curves ? and what is the space between tracks? in Mexico we use NMRA standard, I believe 2 inches (5 cm)
Did you make any allowance at back of layout to be able to mount support uprights to hold backing board for back scenes. May be good time to install some pockets to receive uprights at later date.

The Bullhead points are Unifrog. They can be either insulated or electrofrog depending on personal choice.

Did you make any allowance at back of layout to be able to mount support uprights to hold backing board for back scenes. May be good time to install some pockets to receive uprights at later date.
You said not using track pins. So how you gonna stick the track down and what’s purpose benefit of not using track pins
