      My is300 has 235,000 miles and it runs stronger or better than most new car in 2020. My friends Honda 2020 SI run similar and my other friends Honda Civic type R runs similar as well. It won’t convince me to buy a new car anytime soon. I got that new car feeling outta my system years ago already. Haven’t gone back to a new car lot since 2004.

    180,410 miles on my 2001 is300. Replaced radiator, cam seals, crank seal, thermostat and gasket. I’ve owned it for 5 years and all I can say it runs great. My radiator was torn to pieces. I also had no thermostat and the car still ran for years lol. Love the car and can’t see myself ever getting rid of it!

    I bought one in 2008 for $6,500 with 155k miles. It drove perfect, smooth, super quiet. Coming from like a Honda or Toyota, it was so quiet that I sometimes check to see if it died at stoplights bc I could not hear a thing. Got honked at a couple of times. These cars dont break if you do normal maintenance on it. Only issues I've heard from long time owners are rust and the melting of the dash. I saved a bunch of money, and made long distance trips of 2-5 hours regularly on a whim and I wasnt worried, which was unheard of.

  • @charliebrownsd

    02 sensor is super simple to fix if it's the front one. The other one is farther back and harder to change. Get genuine Toyota parts and do it yourself. Use electronic sensor cleaner on the old part first to see if you can clean it and get it to work.
    I'd also add:
    Number 6. "Oil Control Valve" or OBDII code P1349 or "Variable Valve Timing System Malfunction Bank 1". The part is anywhere from $95 for genuine Toyota or as low as $30 for OEM. Easy to take off and replace, takes about 15 minutes if you also replace the filter that's next to it.
    Number 7. Non-functioning cigarette lighter, front of dash. Mine still is broken, apparently it's usually the actual electronic device in the center console not the fuse
    Number 8. Hazy headlights. Easy to get a kit and then redo the clear coat or do an adhesive clear wrap on them. I need to do this.
    Number 9. Rear automatic window switch and/or motor failing. Replace parts to fix.

    - rear and sometimes front brakes clog with gunk and lock on one side

    I ran out of fuel,and got a plastic Pepsi bottle. Rushed to the gas station on foot and loaded it,still it did not start. I had to engage gear in reverse and after it balances cos I parked like on a hill,so it eventually started and stalled for like 2 seconds and picked. I rushed straight to the gas station, bought mpg booster and well my gas mileage improved a bit. Now the compressor with condenser packed up. I will have it all fixed for like 300$. I can't wait to install custom shock absorbers and chrome rims I must enjoy this lexus. Mind u mileage is abt 290k . The compressor has given up,with 02 sensor plus I have a leaky roof from passengers side..right end underneath the airbags logo directly to a portion of the passengers seat. Aside that it's a fun car to drive. My sunroof don't open and it leaks. Whoever used this lexus ,was just managing it like that
    Now I'm here to bring it back to life. I also saw cylinder misfire. Waiting on my 02 sensor with obd2 scanner before I take action. Mechanic can never cheat me,never,when you tube is here. This lexus IS a bulletproof and can never spoil.

    It’s an older car, every car will have its issues if you own it long enough. My is300, I replaced the two catalytic, the O2 sensor, timing belt,(water pump, cam seals, and did my clutch. It’s part of maintaining your car to keep it running right. My is300 has 235,000 miles on it and it still runs stronger than most new cars to this very day. I test drive a few new cars in 2020 and it drives similar to my old is300 and won’t convince me to pay 30,000 for a new car.

    just an FYI for people with the LSD additive, the stock IS300 LSD does NOT need this additive as there are no clutch packs - you can put it in there if you wish but it will not really change anything. Also, o2 sensors go bad on any car and they really are no big deal to replace - o2 sensor failure is the number 1 leading cause of check engine lights on cars.

  • @mr.cangieter8758
    @mr.cangieter8758 5 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    IS300 is actually a JCE10 or JCE10W not SXE10. SXE10 is the JDM only Altezza RS200. The first letter denotes the engine that came in the chassis (GXE10, JCE10, SXE10. The chassis code is actually XE10. The w behind the XE10 will identify a wagon variant. There was also a JCE15w that's an AWD variant of the wagon or Gita as it's known in Japan.
    Not that I'm being anal about it, I know what you mean. But to some it's like calling a crip a blood, though they're both gang members. And great video btw. 👍🏾

      There is a tech bulletin out from Toyota that fixes rough 1-2 shifts and one other, I can’t remember if it’s an up shift or a downshift, but it’s up high like 3-4/4-3, I want to say. Basically, you replace the ABS/TRAC box completely with the upgraded software, and then relflash ECM with updated shift software. Or, do what I did, search junkyards that track VINs - get the last 8 and call Toyota/Lexus Dealership Service dept to do a VIN check to see if this tech bulletin applied. If so, buy the ECM and TRAC boxes, go home, swap them out (you have unsolder your EEPROM and put on the “new” ECM so your car will actually start, and direct plug’n’play for TRAC box. Then, call up your junkyard and tell them both boxes are bad, and return the old ones. They rip you off on electronics anyways.
      Hard shifting can also be you need to do a series of drain and fills of the TypeIV fluid until you hit 14qts, iirc. I spaced mine out every tank of gas to avoid shocking an already abused and neglected transmission maintenance from previous owners.
      What I’m hearing in your LSD is more consistent with chatter, not whine. That’s a function of the clutches and stators wearing, or worn spider gears. Rebuild it.
      Sticky dash sucks.
      Oxygen sensors suck.

    The LSD diff in the IS300 does not require a dedicated liquid since it's not a clutch-based setup, but a conventional one with gears, so a regular transmission liquid will suffice.

    I have a 2002 Lexus is300, I have two problems, the first one is the brakes, when I push the brakes it feels spongy and turns on the handbrake light and makes a strange sound, as if they get stuck, the second problem is that now I'm using a lot gas, before I only used one gas tank per week to go work, now I have to use two!

    Ok so I came here because I’m lost my 01 is300 has a “quirk” (not an issue in my opinion) but on hot days my key fob and my lock button (to lock all the doors) don’t work. Like it’ll like 3/4 doors or when it’s really hot outside 2/4 doors. When it’s cold outside it’s fine 4/4 doors lock no issues but it’s only when it’s hot and it’s had me baffled and I’ve had it for three years so idk what issues it could be. I do very good maintenance on it engine wise and what not but that’s been my biggest head scratch. Been having it for 3 going on 4yrs w/over 240k miles

No way, I have an Euro Spec 2003 IS300 SportCross and when I switch off the traction control to TRC OFF and I’m into manual eShift my traction control still kicks in and stop me from continuing my drift, so please tell me what I do wrong then ? Is the TRC OFF is working properly only in USA and here in Europe we are totally screwed up ?

  • @99trev2jzgena-t8

    Most of the things you talking about is nothing ..
    1. You only have that lsd problem when you run the lsd out of oil or dont use the right oil ..
    2. The two 02 sensors that come after the cat is a waste of time to fix just get the o2 sensore slim delete for the is300 is only 150 and it fix the problem even if running aftermarket headers.
    3.. I had like 25 is300 never have a sun rattling so maybe you just unlucky.
    4..The sticky Dash fix only take 2 hours to do it your self and you can find a nice clean 01 dash for $150
    5 .. as for the Routh shifts when car cold .. that happen when the car is warming up so it's idling high to get up to temp and you just drop it in gear..
    .....

    Are parts affordable for these cars? I understand parts are expensive for any car but are the prices comparable for non Lexus Toyota models?

    • @jasonlazo5016
      @jasonlazo5016  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t have experience on buying Lexus parts from a dealership, I’m assuming they’re expensive but if you get stuff from rockauto and junkyards they’re affordable prices

    • @mr.cangieter8758
      @mr.cangieter8758 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get parts very well priced. Just make sure you don't cheap out on critical components, like suspension and engine parts. Also follow the Facebook classified pages for our cars. Many guys part them out and you get good deals, though some parts should never be reused.

    • @synqie874
      @synqie874 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      i’d say it’s pretty afforable, these is300s use toyota coolant, atf fluid, oil filters, ect. so rountine maintenance is cheap. you can probably cheap out on some areas like suspension, but make sure other things like engine & cooling system parts are OEM or OEM quality. still though with any other car you can’t beat toyota/lexus reliability.

      Change the fluid and filter. If you drop the pan, there is a switch that you can turn up the line pressure and have it shift like new again. Common issue with the a650e.
