Also - fun note for all wooden boat lovers and So Cal history - read the book Peggy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! then go find Valentine (K40) in Newport Harbor and feel the love sailing, history, and aura of one of the boldest women on the water - my wife sailed by her Valentine on the water yesterday...!! wow.....just wow.....
That's amazing! Thanks David. I'm going to try and take this video series on the road and talk with other Kettenburg owners and sailors to get their perspective on the boats and their experience sailing. I'd love to hear from everyone on who to talk with next!
great to hear from you! Sara Elizabeth of the "Kettenburg Boats" facebook group told me that she's putting together a new list of where all the boats are. If you aren't already in that group, come join so she can add you to the list!!
@@realmattdean I am not on Facebook but would be happy to provide information that I have regarding my boat and any History I've picked up along the way.
Come on down to San Diego!! Have lunch at Point Loma Seafood which is on the grounds of the old Kettenburg Marine. Do it on fathers day and go to CF Kohler Boat Yard for the Wooden Boat Festival and see plenty of beautiful wooden boats!! The West Marine shop here iused to be the biggest and best chandlery when it was Kettenburg! All history I learned boating here as I grew up sailing in MdR...
I came down to the wooden boat fest last year with one of my friends from LAMI. We had a great time! (It will be in one of the later episodes!) Will likely be down again. :)
Agreed. The photos they sent me were amazing and in just a few months it was a wreck. It really wouldn’t have taken much to just clean it out. These boats are historical treasures. The PC 32 I have now is almost 80 years old. They need to be protected for the next generation.
@@davidholmes6333 no David, it was a K40 that Matt spent a lot of time and money to see and inspect to ultimately find the boat’s condition was misrepresented and neglected. Matt afterwards found a PC32 which he ultimately purchased.
The K40 viewed was bought for a fraction of the asking price, sailed up to Portland, and is currently on the hard getting a hull refit!
I’m sooooo glad to hear that someone is getting her restored! She deserves a good life in the right hands. Thank you for letting me know!
That’s great news! Do you know what yard she is in?
@@darrellhanks6459 I Don’t. Tim (who sent us the note) may know!
@tim8k Tim, I am not far from Portland and as a k40 owner myself would love to pop in to see the restoration.

Can’t wait to hear the rest of this story, Matt.
So sad to see the K40 neglected and abused. Some people have no business having a wooden boat.

It's a Kettenburg PC - 32'
