Another terrific video, Steph. I like that you think deeply about how people relate to this work and this field, your observations are always very forward-looking and artful. I think you are a great teacher and I appreciate your leadership, cheers!

I think that web security is actually a good jump for Web Developers but focusing on them at the same time will be hard. Get a job and experience as a developer first, then look into cyber and web security

Hi Uncle Stef, It is always nice to see your thoughts and ideas. And I started following the 20 min coding and thanks to you that really works. One thing I like to know from you is, how you organise ur day productively.. Hope you can share that as well

As an engineering manager my opinion is that no, typical web developers who build business functionality should not deeply learn cyber security, simply because it's a whole different speciality, and it is hard to be good at both. Think of a surgeon and an anesthesiologist for example. Surgeons have their heads and hands full doing surgeries, and they simply don't have capacity to also do anesthesiology at the same level. They of course do know some basics of anesthesiology, just like a web developer needs to know basics of cybersecurity. Depending on how sensitive your app is, your stakeholders might think of hiring either a full or a part time security specialist (red team, white hackers, etc), but they would be wrong to expect a web developer to rollout business functionality and to also be fully responsible for security of web app.

Just learn the basics, build some projects, put them in your portfolio and try to pass the interview. Once you get hired, the real learning begins!

As being a javascript developer, i learned php in 1 week and made and publish a website with xamp stack. When you understand the fundamental concepts, the common concepts of a programming language then learning other languages is so easy.

    Hi Stefan.
    Thanks for nice video.
One of my friends is PHP dev + other Languages ( brief experience).
He was trying to switch to Java and it turned out that not many employers were interested despite that he had 9 years of fullstack dev experience with AWS as well.
I agree with statement that someone of his level graps the new language like a snap, but when it comes to an interview, they just look at your past exp.
    At least what I've heard.

Cybersecurity is an essential if you are putting anything on the web. It helps to know where others have failed, and that may require knowing more than the basics.

Web dev might be an easy entry point, but if you are not absolutely in love with the internet, you will hate your job sooner or later. It's a big ass trap to keep low achiever grinding forever.

I think I'll get the CCNA. Bcos I've already done a lot of networking bs on top of being a seasoned programmer. I gather, if I join networking + programming, I could rule the waves. I mean web. xD
