中学生の時に東京から沖縄へ引っ越しました。
『うわぁーでぇじ訛ってる！！』って言われたのが衝撃でした。
すでに身につけた日本語に通じて英語を勉強するではなく、覚えた英語を通じて日本語を勉強してるw

沖縄の方言は最初は大袈裟だと思っていたけれどリゾートバイトで去年から沖縄で働き始めて、こういうことなのかと毎日楽しいです！個人的に好きな方言は、〜しましょうね です。私〜しますねという意味なのですが、探しましょうね、やりましょうね と言われると一緒にやるのかな？と毎回動揺します😂 沖縄のイントネーションも可愛いですね！このチャンネルいいねしましょうね❣️

とても 面白かったです。私は 話す事は ちょっと出来ませんが 40年前に 沖縄を離れましたが
小さい頃に 聞いた事が 記憶に残ってるのか 聞く事は 出来ました。おそらく 英語も 小さい時に聞いてると 聞く事が 出来るのかなって思いました。とても 楽しかったです。

トークの中で「てぃんから〜」の説明がありましたが、あれは方言ではなく、戦後アメリカ統治下に沖縄の人がアメリカ人とコミュニケーションする為に編み出したものです。
生活の為に覚えた片言の英単語と日本語と方言を駆使して、それが不思議と通じていました。
例えば…待ち合わせの約束をするときに、
[朝早くここで会いましょう]
「ナンバーワンチキン、スピーク、ユーカム、ミーカム…]
みたいな感じだったようです。
因みに、30代から下の世代は方言と思って使っていても、実際にはそれっぽい若者造語だったりすることもあります。
Minored in Japanese in college and took an Okinawan language class last semester; it was really insightful and fun to compare Japanese and Okinawan. Can't wait to actually try and use the Okinawan I learned when I actually visit Okinawa :)

@@matchaT808 I got to use Okinawan when I lived in Hawaii. It's important to keep these languages and cultures alive and avoid them getting trampled by bigger, more spread out languages.

今から50年くらい前に沖縄がアメリカ🇺🇸から日本に🇯🇵に返還されました。
パスポートが不要になったので沖縄に行き、レンタカーを借りてあちこち行きました。
しかし交通ルールはまだアメリカ🇺🇸でした。
カーラジオから流れてくる放送にすべて沖縄言葉でやってるところがありました。
何を言ってるのか分からなかったですが外国に来た気分になったのを覚えてます。
今も沖縄言葉の放送はあるのでしょうか❓

すごく楽しかったです。他言語での冗談やコメディが分かり抜きうですが今回は理解して楽しかったです。
Okinawan language is not a dialect but its own language that is related but distinct to Japanese but is part of the Japonic language family group. It is like French, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, and Romanian. They all descend from Latin, but they have evolved into different languages. One language is not a dialect of the other.
Okinawa and surrounding islands, Rykyu is how the Yamato (mainland Japanese) called them but the natives called themselves as Liuchiu. The kingdom of Rykyu already existed even before the Yamato(the Japanese) have their own government and Ryukyu or simply Okinawa nowadays was annexed to Japan which means they are a colony of Japan. They have their own kingdom, culture and languages. Of course heavily influenced by Chinese and theres a lot of Chinese in Okinawa. In fact, the name Liuchiu was given by the Chinese, originally they called themselves as Dozan but eventually took a liking to the name of Liuchiu. Lichiu or Ryukyuans never called themselves as Japanese, (the Rising Sun nation), Nihon, before that as Wakoku (the nation of Wa). So the Japanese and Liuchiu are different kingdoms. Japanese are Wa people while Liuchiu is Liuchiu or Dozan.

@@kddiodox no such thing as "evidence that ryukyuans descended from Japanese farmers and pirates". Ryukyuans and Ainu are direct descendants of Jomon people (indigenous people of Japan) while the Japanese (Yamato) migrated from China and Korea into Japan.

@@mikewallice2795 the ryukyuans never denied their origin from the mainland Japanese in their old annals.......Shō Shōken (向 象賢, 1617-1675) states in his "Shioki" of 1673: "There is no doubt that the Ryukyuans originally migrated from Japan. Japanese and Ryukyu languages still have many identical or similar words. Differences in their parlance are due to the fact that their lands are femote from each other and communicatlon was obstructed for a long period". The ryukyuans only started developing during the middle ages after successive migrations from Mainland Japan..... their Japanese heritage is obvious, what isn't so obvious it is the previous population occupying those islands before the Japanese did and their other ancestors (not dominant lineage). It was once widely believed that the ryukyuans were descended from an unknown ancient Japanese group . But it seems they are just descended from medieval Japanese fishermen, villagers, wokou and exiled politicians (mostly kyushu). The ones intermingled with a previous culture that many people have been interpreting as austronesian. In his 2019 book Maritime Ryukyu, Gregory Smits argues (based on the work of Okinawan and Japanese scholars too) that most of the big-name figures in medieval Ryukyu history, including in Miyako and Yaeyama, were likely not “indigenous” islanders in the sense of being some completely different ethnic group from the Japanese, but rather were likely wokou sea lords, likely of Japanese descent, who had come into the islands and established themselves there only a generation or two or three earlier
Overall, he suggests that “the Ryukyuan people,” such as they are understood today, are descended primarily from a number of successive waves of migrations into the islands from Japan in the 11th-15th centuries, completely displacing or absorbing the non-Japonic (Austronesian admixture with southern jomon, maternal heritage of the ryukyuans) indigenous peoples who may have been there previously. Scholars such as Mark Hudson, similarly, suggest that while up until a certain point the islands were inhabited by Austronesian or perhaps pre-Austronesian peoples with stark cultural differences from the Japanese

Japanese dialects are a lot of fun.
Okinawan language is not really a dialect of Japanese though but an entirely different language. It has just been influenced by Japanese of course over the years.
I want to learn Japanese in another part of the country then surprise Japanese people when I speak in a dialect
@@rachelcookie321 Osaka-ben (Osaka Dialect) is one of my favorite dialects. There’s many videos on Japanese dialects actually. Japan has 47 prefectures, each prefecture has its own dialect too.

OMG, Okinawa Japanese is much more fun and I'll love to learn it. When I visited Okinawa, it was a bit difficult to understand some of the people chatting on the street and I felt confused as my Japanese is not the greatest, but it's not bad.
I want to head back to Canada and just rattle off the language, haha. It would be like a secret coded dialect I'll be speaking. Love it!!
There are 41 cities,towns and villages.Basically,we have different types of accents and dialects ,and there are different dialects in each of the isolated islands.I was born and raised in Okinawa but I sometimes confuse when my dad speak dialect:)you should go to Ikei Island when you come here 👍
There's also a difference between Okinawan Japanese and actual Okinawan Language. And the latter is heavily endangered unfortunately...

There used to be many "konbi" or comedy duos in the past (1950s and so on), but maybe now there are less of those in the U.S. for example. There are now many stand-up comedians who perform solo. We also have some popular, long running "konbi" in the USA such as Saturday Night Live and some other shows like MAD TV. There are many comedy houses or "laugh houses" in the USA as well that perform comedy skits regularly every week (probably less now because of covid). Your video is basically a comedy skit in U.S. eyes, though.

For foreigners who are learning Japanese, there’s a historical story why Okinawa is so unique.
It used to be a same group used among Hokkaido. It’s because longtime ago, before even people move into the mainland of Japan , people in Japan used to use one language which is now spoken in Hokkaido and Okinawa.It’s like an old version of Japanese.
The people in the history from Korea and China came to the middle part of Japan, so the native people had to go up to the north or go down to the south.
So nowadays most Japanese people don’t understand Hokkaido and Okinawa dialect but the both are still sound very similar.

@@U-Ryan 諸説あるとは思いますが大陸の人が日本に昔きて先住民が上がるか下がるかは元寇とか歴史が示すようにアメリカなどとは違い先住民は追い払われていない為それは違うと思います。また琉球は朝貢貿易などで14世紀~16世紀くらいには中国と関係があり移り住んでいる人(琉球へ)も何人かいるためその説だと琉球方言の方が影響があることになりそうです。
北海道住んでたことありますが、アイヌじゃなければ方言あまり強くないと思います
琉球の言葉と日本の本土語は確か、言語的な繋がりはあるらしいけど、北海道のアイヌ語に関しては、日本語含め世界のどの言葉とも繋がりがなくて、孤立してるって聞いた事がある気がする。
侵略的な歴史を持っているから、当然他の国の民族も侵略的な歴史の上に成り立っていると考えてるんじゃね。島国だから他民族に侵略されづらいっていう基本があまり理解できないのかも。

Okinawan Japanese sounds kinda like Japanese with Chinese tones, which is something not surprising given how much contact with China they had over the centuries.
EDIT: I meant Ryukyuan, and not Okinawan Japanese. My mistake.
And when I said "sounds" I meant "sounds to lay ears".
EDIT 2: the title itself says "Okinawa Japanese" so, I guess I'm not entirely to blame since I'm no expert on these matters ans can't tell these languages apart that well.
I think the teacher is actually speaking Ryukyuan (or Luchuan) and not what's linguistically classified as "Okinawan Japanese." Of course the common perception is that Ryukyuan is a "dialect" of Japanese but the differences speak for themselves I think.
It's interesting how they address this in the video especially with how they characterize what "dialect" means. It's worth noting how Japanese colonization and the reversion movement under American military occupation have helped produce mixed perceptions of what it means to speak Ryukyuan or be Okinawan/Ryukyuan
@@apropripinquo Okinawans have no Han ancestry, they have been influenced by Chinese culture just like Koreans, Vietnamese, etc.
Even though you got many Likes, your understanding of the Ryukyuan languages was wrong. The teacher in the video speaks one of the typical Ryukyuan languages (Shuri) when he translates the English sentences while he speaks the Okinawan Japanese (Uchinayamatoguchi) when he talks to the students. This might be interpreted that these comedians are trying to exaggerate how different the languages in Okinawa are from the standard Japanese (by the way, the Ryukyuan languages are also different from the Okinawa Japanese. The Okinawan Japanese is a newborn creole and is considered as a dialect of Japanese that was born after the Japanese invasion).
Anyway, both the Ryukyuan languages and the Okinawa Japanese have a different sound system from the Chinese language. We can see some influence of it in some vocabulary, but not in sound.

恐らく今でいう皇族の方に話すような感じですね。さすがに謙譲語の方言は難しく、今では話せる人は本当に少ないと思います。ただ、沖縄から海外（ペルー等）に渡った人の二世、三世の方は祖父母と話す言葉は謙譲語で話す沖縄方言らしく、転勤で沖縄の米軍基地に来た沖縄二世、三世の方が話す方言は理解できるが、謙譲語の方言を話せる沖縄の人は居なかったようです。
時代が過ぎて、綺麗な沖縄の方言が廃れていくのは悲しいです。今の若い人たちも、綺麗な方言を覚え忘れないで欲しいです。
