I just bought a 2012 Countryman S. This is the 11th Mini I've owned. Why? I really don't know. They are SO damned finicky. I've had 2 Coupes - 1 S and one non-S. 2 F56's. LOTS of 2nd Gen S and a few non from that genre. 2 first gen. I gotta say that this is a different animal in the Countryman. Ride quality and noise are substantially better for sure. Ride from seat is substantially "taller". Motors all sound ready to fly apart. A sewing machine on steroids. Once you realize they pretty much ALL sound that way, it's easier to deal with. I will say that the F56 isn't as rattly and has great low end grunt as opposed to first gen. The second gen S motor is strong, but I have had lots of coil pack / cam sensor / "half engine power" issues. They are ALL a blast to drive - just be aware of what was mentioned. The rattly engines on 2nd gen - even when there's nothing wrong - is off putting. But again- they are a blast!
the engine on the 2010-present Mini Countryman Engine 1.6 L I4 (One/Cooper) 1.6 L Prince turbocharged I4 (Cooper S) 1.6 L BMW N47 diesel I4 (Cooper D and One D) 2.0 L BMW N47 diesel I4 (Cooper D Automatic and Cooper SD models)
