The video is faithful to what we saw that night, but the sound is significantly better here (Olympia being a nice venue, only with so-so acoustics). I do remember that a number of people seemed to share aakoin's opinion about Pat's V-Drums sounds :-) Well, I quite like them, actually. "Pop Sided". Saw him 3 times with Crimson, including this here tour. Saw Adrian solo and/or with the bears, so many times, I do not know how many times any more. Have every album he ever recorded and most of the one's he's guesting on.
Ade is a unique musical treasure. I too have seen him in concert many times with various bands and have had the pleasure of talking with him (and Julie Slick) after shows. Whenever you see him in concert, whether with KC, Crimson ProjeKct, Power Trio, etc., you are 100% guaranteed to be bathed in beautiful joyous musical energy. I really hope he and Robert have one more good run together.
The idea or intention of the current lineup is no one is the star or front man. Every one is paid equally - Fripp doesn't take the lion's share. Everyone is a piece in the machine.
@vonBottorff That is just a ludicrous assertion. Why would Fripp have made him the frontman and songwriter of the band for nearly 20 years if he didn't like his writing or singing, and why would he continue to play songs from the Belew era after he was let go?
Belew added equal amounts of accessibility and grit to KC, in my opinion. But it wouldn't be Crimson if it didn't evolve/change. Maybe he doesn't need come back....?
@Izno Iznogoud They never had 3 drummers. Muir was more of a percussionist than a drummer. This current lineup is the ultimate in that they can do literally any era of the band. I have never seen Fripp this happy with any KC lineup. And guess what - it's the longest lasting lineup they ever had with plans for touring in 2020.
I absolutely love Belew era (which is for most part), but they went seperate Ways and there was no King Crimson for a while and then Robert Fripp had a vision in his dream of the exact new line-up and said that only if everyone from his dream is up for it then KC will live on. He also had the vision of that three drummers in front row set up. So it's much better to have no Belew King crimson, than no King crimson.
Bill digs this! ProzaKc Blues could've been a Tom Waits cover, from say Mule Variations. Also the V-drums and the Johnson digital amps make the sound special. Quite a lot of guitarists used Johnson amps around that time, Bill's seen Randy Bachman use it with Guess Who then. Actually, Bill think Belew's got a VERY good sound here, it's got such a "core" to it. Maybe like a distilled "Plexi" sound.
The speed that Fripp plays at. Is there anybody else that can play like that? I've seen shredding before, but I've never seen anything like what he does here & on other videos. Anybody?
