    Just coming back to say I got the pack 3 months ago and I'm delighted with it. Little tip with the bungees for the bottles, if you stretch and twist you can double wrap them around the flasks and they stay put perfectly after that.

    I just got this vest. I tend to get hot so I figured the light Grey would be good and the fact it is a bit lighter and breathable with the fabrics and no side pockets. First thing I put it on I was like wow this is comfortable, and I am picky about feel. I couldn't do belts but this is like a part of the body. Love it!

    I got mine a month ago (thanks to this video) and used it a few times. I absolutely love it. It's so comfortable that you forget you're even wearing it, which is exactly what I want. I do use the 2l bladder, because I live in a warm place and am a heavy sweater, so those 2 soft flasks just aren't enough.
    I have to point out one small flaw, though. The little lids of the two 500ml soft flasks don't have a twist lock to block flow, so when you squeeze them some fluid can squirt out, including when you're stuffing them into the front pockets. If it's water, it's fine, but if it's energy drink, things can get sticky. I managed to solve it by using the lids from soft flasks by Decathlon. They do have a twist lock and amazingly fit on the Salomon flasks.

      That's great to hear kristof, I'm glad you're enjoying your vest 😁
      I totally agree, it would be good if you could lock the bottle valves off when not in use! I have sprayed water all over me a few times 😔

    Im not really into running, but after trying the "EVOC CC 3L Race", i feel like these types of packs are the best choice for short dayhikes in hilly terrain. Really comfortable, and sits close to the body for superb agility. When it comes to space, that 3 liter pack has enough room for 2 liters of water, a water filter, some sandwiches, map, compass, GPS, hand sanitizer, bandaids, one of those ultralight jackets that packs really tiny, and maybe some snacks or other small accessories. Pretty decent for such a small pack..!
    This being said; some of the daypacks on the market are also pretty comfortable, and sit sufficiently tight on the back to provide pretty good agility. I got a 24 liter Deuter "Speed Lite" that i really like. Having all that room means that i can easily pack my cook set, Aeropress Go (portable coffee maker), hammock, and some actual dinner, so i can take a nice comfortable break whenever i want, and go for hikes lasting all day if i so choose. Packing a little extra weight like this also means that i condition my body to carry a little more, which both gives me better exercise, and makes me less prone to get strain injuries from carrying heavier backpacks later.

    I did find this useful, thanks. You've about 90% convinced me to choose this pack. A couple of tiny critiques for your video, both related to color: 1. A black pack on a black shirt doesn't show up as well as it could. 2. The black color actually does matter to functionality, if you live in a hot area, because it will make the pack absorb heat and be much hotter. Honestly, I wish they would make it white!

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeap I realise that now Tammy, black was not the best colour top to wear! You're not the first person to mention it and I'm sure you won't be the last 😂
      If you watch some of my more recent pack reviews I wear a lighter coloured top. I've raced over seas in very hot conditions in black vests, blue vests, red vest, all kinds of coloured vests and it really doesn't make much difference. You've got a running pack on so it'll always make you feel a bit warmer, you can't avoid it. As far as a white coloured vest, Salomon tried it once and after 2 or 3 run the vest looked so dirty and discoloured they never did it again! Glad the review helped and that's for watching 🙏

    you can "pinch" the cord that holds the bottle with the bottle cap. That worked for me to prevent the flask to go down as you drain the liquid.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did try that Eduardo but I found once I'd drunk a bit of water the tops of the bottles bounced around a lot which was quite annoying 😊

    Would you wear it shirtless? I hardly run with a shirt, and my climate typically isn’t cold enough to need a shirt for an entire run.
    I’m also curious about how well it works with a bladder. Where would you store the nozzle while you’re not using it? Does it have loops on the pack you can feed the tube through to keep it fixed on the pack?
    Thanks hope you respond love your channel! 🙌🏼

    The very first vest review I watched was your take on the Harrier Kinder 10L and now I compare the features of other vests to it. LOL. Pluses for the Kinder over this Salomon are the side pockets (big miss by Salomon here), better positioned front bottles w/super handy tall straws and wide tops to fill them, lots of front pockets, and a top-loading back pocket. Not to mention a great price, though shipping to NA isn’t cheap (and if there’s a warranty issue down the line?). Neither vest has the perfect "easy to grab" iPhone pocket (if one exists). Salomon’s plus is the brilliant “Quick lace” front closure. Will look into Nathan and a few others mentioned keeping these two vests in mind, especially the Kinder as I love to support small companies like Harrier providing great products. Love your channel and glad you’re back running again! Subbed.

    FYI, I've also found a good way to store your running poles with this vest too. Place the poles handle side down in the outside pocket. Use a bungie just above the water flask to bungie the pole tip side to the jacket (you'll need to make or buy a bungie with a cinch). Cheap fix. Just be careful when getting a drink (no biggie since you can remove the pole very quickly if needed as it's only 1 bungie). Thought I'd share.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeap the Advance 12 set is definitely more vest like compared to the Active 8 set. The 12 set has more volume in the main back pocket and the pocket is made from a more stretchy material. The 12 set has more pockets to access on the move. The 12 set main back pocket is water repellent and the Active 8 set isn't. The 12 set come with a insulated sleeve for your bladder if you use one. The 12 set also has a large stuff pocket on the back that runs underneath the main back pocket that the 8 set doesn't have. You also get a really handy little rubbish pocket on the 12 set. I'm asking because I had a chance to try on the Adv 12 in a store, but they didn't have the Active 8. Looks like it is missing a kangaroo pocket on the back so you could 'easily' get out a waterproof jacket (and put it back) without removing the vest but that seems about it.

      It really depends what you're looking for out of your running vest/pack Rich T. You are right the Active 8 set is a great pack for a brilliant price, but the Advance 12 set is still one of the best vests I've run in 👍
      The big stuff pocket on the sides and back is a great feature on the 12 set, really handy and I use it a lot in races. Also the main pocket on the back of the 12 set has a water repelent coating. You can use the Salomon pole quiver on the 12 set but not on the Active 8 set. The 12 set has a lot more up front storage that you can access while running and a really handy little internal rubbish pocket. So there are quite a few extra features on the 12 set but I would say if you're on a budget then go for the Active 8 set because it does run really well and still has lots of storage 😊

      @Run4Adventure  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Travis
      The bottles are really easy to get in and out in the Active 8 set 👍
      You only need to take them out when filling up. The rest of the time they stay in the pack and you drink from the bottles while in the pack. The only packs that come with the speed bottles are the S-lab packs. The Advance skin 12 comes with the new standard bottle which have a wider opening but they still have a soft bottom. To be honest I'm not a lover of the speed bottles, if used them a couple of times and hard base rubbed on my ribs and caused lots of problems!! 😞

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats impossible to answer Marko? It really depends on the shape of the bottles of drink that you buy? All drink brands use different shaped bottles so I dont know 🤔
      I personally think it would run a lot better with soft flask -
      1 - The soft flask contour to your body better.
      2 - You don't get any water sloshing with soft flask.
      Couldn't you just pour the drink you buy into the soft flasks? 🤔

    I have gotten into running a few months back. Now that I reached 30km in my long runs, I realized that I'll need running pack, because my previous solutions for hydration were definetly not optimal. I watched both of your reviews for the active skin 8 and the adv skin 12 set (which were great btw :)) and I am not sure which one to get now. I want to make sure that I can use that pack for the next few years and want it to be enough to get me through my first ultras. While the adv 12 would for sure be a better investment for the future, many people reported issues with these toggles, for the bungee cord on the back, breaking, which kinda scares me from buying it and it obviously comes at a higer price. Do you think the active skin 8 would be enough for now? Where do you think are the limits of the active skin 8?

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kylon 👍
      There's no real limits to either vest! I'd also say don't be worried about the toggles on the 12 set because that was on some of the first production vests and the issues has been addressed now by Salomon using different toggles 👍
      Obviously the Advance 12 set is a brilliant vest, the best vest I've run in but I was amazed how good the Active 8 set is for the price! There is a bit more accessible storage on the 12 set and I personally think that's really important when it comes to our running vests 😊
      I think they'd both do what you want them to do so if you're on a budget I'd go for the Active 8 set but if not the Advance 12 set is a great running vest 😊
      Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's really appreciated 🙏

      I have looked into the Advance 12 a little more and also found out that they've addressed this issue. Seeing that it's going to be a piece of equipment, that'll hopefully stay with me for the next few years, the additional 50€ should be well invested.
      Because of this pandemic salomon seems to have some production issue, since I couldn't find a single active 8 in my size (m) in stock anywhere on the internet (at least not on german stores, not even on the salomon website).

    Hi! Thanks for a great review. Made me make up my mind and order a Salomon Active skin 8 set. I ordered a M as it seemed right from their size guide. But since it is my first vest I don't know how they should feel. It fits snug and, no bumping when packed, but a little narrow around the arms and I am worried that will chafe and also cause tension when I adjust the laces tight. I am 1,78 m and 78 kg, 98 cm around the chest. I I saw you Lloyd had a M, may I ask how it fits on you and your length? I still have som room to adjust the closing system. Will it become a little bigger with use or should I also try out a L?

      Hi Erik
      I find the vest fits true to size? Yes I've got a Med and I'm 1.84m and 73kg and it fits fine 👍
      You do want the fit to be snug because you don't want any movement while running! I'd say if you've still got some adjustment left in the pack then it's not to small. The last thing you want is a running vest to big because then you'll get lots of movement and that will definitely cause issues 😔
