@@duncanevans5197 It's not certain she would have won had the election been in September or October 1979. Those extra few months saw a small improvement in the UK economy and made the events of the previous 'winter of discontent' slightly more distant in voter memory.
Definitely not that. She was widely viewed as a poor leader of the opposition, tending to lecture and provide lists. She didn't really hit her stride as a parliamentary performer until she had won the 1983 election.
This is highly subjective and I entirely disagree. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that some of her greatest performances in the Commons were between '79 and '83. Mrs. Thatcher, by her own admission, was in her element when "in battle" verbally speaking. Most of her most drastic/difficult to attain policy positions were already in place by 1983, in many cases due largely to herself, alone (bearing in mind the level of dissent coming from her own front bench during these years). The idea that she was a poor parliamentary leader in these years is a talking point often parroted by the likes of Lord Heseltine, and contemporaneously: the late Francis Pym and Edward Heath. Each of these men, incidentally, had every reason to resent Mrs. Thatcher owing to the fact that she ended their political careers, respectively. I would suggest that the "[wide] view" you speak of is a wide view of a very, very specific body of people, all with a similar perspective.
She was actually thought of as a fairly poor leader of the opposition. As with so many politicians who end up winning an election, events move in their direction.
She had the most softpower worldwide to continues to keep pace with her colleagues to tackle the toughest issues, she was incredible to handle them until her 89 years old. True boss.
