    Katie,you are the first ever roller instructor or roller skater period,that has done forward "c" cuts that we do on ice!,Similar to a one leg scooter push I guess.I have yet to see any roller skater or ice figure skater EVER do a ONE LEG BACKWARD PUSH.You are basically skating backwards on one leg.Have to drop both hips each push instead of one with backward stroking.Best way to learn backward skating.F fastest way backwards for me.Basically a backward scooter push(No such thing).This is not a difficult move at all as one skate remains on floor always.Is a hockey move.Katie are you British?Beautiful accent! Hi Katie, great videos can’t wait to try!! I just wanted to ask does it matter if I’ve loosened my trucks pretty good or do they need to be tighter for stability? Is that something that you just get used to and learn to balance not matter how stiff or loose?

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can adjust them to how they feel right for you but make sure you can’t wiggle them with your hands that tends to mean they’re a little too loose and may be hard to control.

    Do you feel pressure in your ankles when you do this? Or should I’m be in my legs?

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d say the tension is in your calves and shins. However if you’re new to skating it’s possible you’ll also feel tension in your ankles as you’re gaining strength to hold the skate stable

  • @godjhaka7376
    @godjhaka7376 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Real good video Skatie. Question.
    What do you call @ 8:33 if skating forward instead of backwards? Where your front foot is heel manual and back flat?
    And does this just help with balance? Is it for easier navigation ? My skate instructor does this in his normal skating all the time.

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I often cruise round a rink like that too. I think it’s a comfortable way of cruising as all the weight is on the hips and back foot. Lifting the front truck of the front foot means you can use it for steering or the occasional bit of pull to increase speed. It’s kinda just a wheelie.

  • @jmarsh411
    @jmarsh411 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I was really struggling to do manuals despite having good balance for other things like boxing and dancing. I bought some higher end SureGrip skates and suddenly all the manuals and tricks were easy. After comparing I found the front wheel of my cheap skates is too far forward for me to get weight on the balls of my feet. If you're like me and struggled for months, go to your local skate shop and try on some higher quality skates. You don't have to skate in them, just hold a counter and raise yourself on the front wheels. If that feels much easier, you want those skates!

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lots of skaters have skates that are too big and this makes a huge difference where the front truck comes. If the skate is too big then getting on to a toe manual is almost like going en pointe. Ouch.

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  ปีที่แล้ว

      Try and keep a tension n the leg. It can take a while to build the strength needed to control the foot.

  • @edaay4501
    @edaay4501 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a general question. Everytime I try a new move on my roller skates, my left leg has high tension so my left side of inner thigh is a little hurting and it makes me anxious. What should I do to reduce this tension?

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try and get your weight spread equally across the feet, then work on transferring, whilst standing still, to one foot then the other. That way each leg will tense and then relax. Hopefully that will help muscle with memory. ⭐️💕🛼

      @@Skatie When I am out of shape and return to quads I have the same issue with my left adductor.Three times I skated ,went to bed and experienced nocturnal leg cramps.Extremely painful,and you are helpless unless you can get up and put pressure on this leg.I don`t want anyone to go through what I wentthrough.I am by choice a speed skater,maybe that`s the problem.Do this:Stretch before and after the session at least three times before retiring.I always do M magnesium powder one hour before in safe amounts.When I finish skating I ALWAYS jog at least a minimum of two hundred yards before crawling into bed.This should work some of the Lactic acid out of your legs,especially if in skates for three or four hours.Take care.

    When I lift my toe to do heel manuals, my front foot gets extremely wobbly. What am I doing wrong?

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you loosened your trucks. They may be too loose. Alternatively it could be that the foot doesn’t have enough weight on it or there isn’t tension in that leg.

    I tried so many times to balance myself on the 2 front wheels but honestly it feels impossible. I'm pretty balanceed already but I want to learn how to spin and it seem impossible to stand only on your front wheels. I'm frustrated

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes if your skates are too big it can be really hard to balance on the front trucks as you almost have to be a ballerina on tip toes. Otherwise it can just be a matter of finding the correct spot to balance. If you have toestops in they could be getting in the way too.

    Hi Katie, great videos can’t wait to try!! I just wanted to ask does it matter if I’ve loosened my trucks pretty good or do they need to be tighter for stability? Is that something that you just get used to and learn to balance not matter how stiff or loose?

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With trucks it’s more of a personal preference but it is possible for them to be too loose or too tight. If they are rigid when you have your foot in your boot and press on the big toe and little toe then they are probably too tight. And likewise if you press and they flop about it will be really hard to control them. I like a loose truck but my boots are very stiff so I can lean on my boot. If you have a soft boot like suede you may want a firmer truck. Hope this helps x

      Hi Katie does it make a difference on what type of Wheels you use for manuals? I have 101a wheels and I find that they are very fast on a wooden floor and I can't seem to get my balance for the manuals
