I endured the US Army Sapper Leaders Course some decades ago and that was definitely an accomplishment...lots of physical activity, lots of math, not much food or sleep. But the intensity of the Fort Benning sniper school is on another level. Graduates of that school have mastered the "zen" of marksmanship not to mention camouflage and land navigation. Mark's suggestion is an excellent one pulling your elbow into your side is what we were taught when I was on the rifle team in school. also, if you practice during the summer you'll find a "comfy" spot & you'll really enjoy the fact that you can "snap & shoot" a lil quicker as time goes on. It looks like Metallic Silhouette shooting - the chicken in HP silhouette is about the size of the gong, and is at 200 meters. Position is with elbow on hip. Being able to hit the chicken after 10 burpees is good shooting.
Great video. It would be great to see a video like this where you are shooting at extreme angles either up hill or down hill. That is the shot I have found myself in the last few years and have missed more than I have hit.

What distance do you sight your scope at typically for hunting? In in the field how do compensate for a non-zeroed distance without changing the turrets (i.e. a quick off the cuff shot)?
Hi Tim! this was a standard manfroto 055 series tripod i have used for photography/video/spotting scopes as well as shooting from. a good tripod is worth its weight! thanks, Matt
That pack would offer a lot more support if it had a true metal frame instead of a wimpy "frame sheet". I made a frame for my hunting pack with 1" wide aluminum strips from Lowe's.

look up "arca swiss plates" and I think you'll find what you're looking for. They are fairly standard photography mounts. You can also get a rail that would attach to your sling swivel stud that clamps directly into the arca-swiss adapter. Then no need to hold it down with your hand.

Probably tens of thousands of moose have been taken here in Canada with a 30-06 so you would be well armed. I have even shot a couple with the '06 myself..............
I see that you fire at and kill bulls at several hundred yards of distance, which is very uncommon here where I hunt (the Pinewoods of Sweden, rather flat) we are much more likely to encounter driven (by dogs) game on below 100 yards.. I think the average distance a moose is shot is somewhere in the 40-50's. Anyhow.. when I pull my scope (2,5-10 x 50) up to 10 .. I cannot for the life of me see me fire downrange 400 yards and hit a dime, let alone the heart of an Elk/moose. Even with a rest. Even the slightest of wiggles/breath etc makes the cross-hair jump Is the easy answer: practice, practice and practice? How much magnifying do you guys prefer when firing long range? For that distance, I am usually at 15X. And yes, I practice a lot. Ammunition is free for me, so there is no excuse for me not to be proficient out to 400 yards. I prefer to shoot at game at distances closer than 400 yards and very, very seldom shoot beyond that, and if beyond that, only a short distance beyond that.

I set my turrets for a 100 yard zero. Leupold's CDS system has the distances etched into the turrets. Easy to use.

Not a burpee but a good heart rate raiser either way. Burpee = chest and legs on the ground, then up and a hop. We call what you did Up Downs

Think that's something, what you can do with a 1 1/4 inch GI leather sling will blow your mind all the way out to 1000 yards. Not joking!
