    Getting rid of attributes opens you up to some real gems, thanks for the striker suggestions! Once again a great vid from the best FM creator around at the moment.
    Switched to your skin yesterday as I said over Instagram and I've already made signings I would never make otherwise, incdluding a Korean CAM who is in his 30s. When you aren't influenced or even bound by attributes, you can make some very smart signings who will have a bigger impact on your save than if you were to play normally.
    I've also got an abandoned Villa save that's about 35% of the way done in the first season, I'm considering going Moneyball in that one starting from January 2024 in-game.

    • @mustermannfm
      @mustermannfm  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Absolutely!
      One of the reasons for starting down this route was noticing that I'd often sign or dismiss the same players based on marginal attribute differences rather than assessing how they played. It really helps open up possibilities and give chances for new heroes to come forward!

      @@mustermannfm So my only thing is that I find regen scouting to be a massive part of how I play FM. I don't think it's as big an aspect of how you play, but I'd be interested in a video of how you approach it, if you do

    • @mustermannfm
      @mustermannfm  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@dalenichol9404 certainly something to consider. I can give a brief answer now.
      My approach to scouting is to remove player search and rely on scouts. As a result I will always be working with a smaller pool. Youth/regens are the same, so if my scouts don't identify them, they are not considered. But, if they are recommended there's a few things to look for.
      Stats are limited, but you can find them in the youth competition pages under Player Detailed. You can usually identify players who standout compared to their peers. But that's not hard - a lot of their peers aren't going to make it in professional football.
      Attributes are obscured but there's more than enough information to make judgements. In fact, the grouping helps identify the inter-relationship of attributes quickly and see if they are actually likely to be good after development (no point in a player with elite passing, if they've got poor decisions and vision)

      imgur.com/a/eUMYSPp
      With the DNA indicator, I could see he is already capable in all the areas I prioritise. Even with development, he's never going to be "quick" or a great finisher, but he's rounded in possession attributes, so I believe he has the ability to go on and be a very good Advanced Playmaker at Greek Super League level.

    Man what a helpful video... love this series.
    My favorite player you showed was Paulinho; give me a player that doesn't have any clear weakness, even if they aren't excellent in an area either. His locker room fit was a bit low for me, but it's tough to turn away from a good deep lying forward.
    One moneyball striker I love is Roberts Uldrikis at Cambuur; usually available for $1-$3 million at the start of the season. Most of his attributes are middle of the road/lower division, except for 3 things: his height (6'6"), his jumping reach (world class), and his heading ability (also world class). He's basically the living embodiment of a target forward. Just stand there and let me send crosses to you lol.
    Also a Browns jersey?? We're starting the revolution of wearing sports apparel for every sport except football 🤣🤣

    Lopez looks compelling. I think I'll try and pick him up in my St Pauli save. Max Moerstedt is over performing for me at Chelsea. I scooped him up for Ajax and 18 months in I got the Chelsea job and took him with me. In four seasons he's had three 20+ goal seasons and that's as my back up striker. He performs best as an Advanced Striker, but that's because of my tactics. He can do work as a complete forward, too, and that's something I want to build a new tactic around. I'm thinking Zola in the hole with Mark Hughes/Kerry Dixon/Gianluca Vialli up top.

      It's a good idea, and one I will consider (generally, I like this things to come up organically during the course of a save). I did give a brief answer in an earlier comment though:
      My approach to scouting is to remove player search and rely on scouts. As a result I will always be working with a smaller pool. Youth/regens are the same, so if my scouts don't identify them, they are not considered. But, if they are recommended there's a few things to look for.

      @@mustermannfm I hadn't stopped to think about how the grouping of attributes is something that helps with this observation and it really makes sense, it helps a lot to identify players who appear at the club and/or players from other clubs. I'm afraid he wasn't even close to being in contention.
      Despite good goalscoring form( xG overperformance of +0.13) his performance in everything else was awful (below 25th percentile in everything but goals and shots - in fact the low NPxG compared to shots indicated a really low xG per shot - suggesting he was taking a lot of bad shots).
      It's good to hear he's worked out for you, though. Quite possibly indicative of someone who is poorly utilised by Monterey.

  • @xavinwonderland
    @xavinwonderland 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I had try the moneyball approach in the past but I found it underwhelming when playing for a decent club in a decent league.
    My issue was that you can find a striker destroying everything in Sweden 2nd division but if you bring him in the Premier league it's a very different environment.
    Then even if you adjust for the league difference it's very hard to take into account the team differences. For instance you could have someone scoring an insane amounts of goals but maybe he is teamed together with the best passer in the league and if you don't have the same level passer he will underperform.
    What I mean is that basing it only on stats was very hit and miss for me. So I went back looking at the attributes 😊.
    Other that that great video and interesting take

    • @mustermannfm
      @mustermannfm  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's why goals is rarely the important metric to look at. You need to be more holistic. Shots, xG and xG overperformance tells you a lot about a players ability to get into good quality shooting positions and to then finish team. Pass attempts, dribbles, xA, header win rate, etc... indicates their involvement in build up.
      It's quite easy to find players who perform well that will translate to higher divisions if you look beyond the surface, but that level of uncertainty is part of the joy of attributeless. It's not for everyone. That doesn't make it a better way to play. Just different.

    • @xavinwonderland
      @xavinwonderland 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@mustermannfm but how do you account for the team difference? Let's say you spot someone with great stats playing in the best 2nd division team in Sweden or Belarus. If his team is the best of their division they will mostly score loads of goals, have very high Xgoals, Xoverperformance and all metrics because they are the best team so they are dominating their opposition.
      But you know take some of these dominant players and bring them not only in an upper league but also in a small team in the upper league all of a sudden they are nobody while they were the superstars in their old environment?
      Also is there a way to use that as a scouting method for wonderkids? My issue with wonderkids is how unreliable scout reports can be and I'm looking for a edge there. But the stats are just a different way to look at CA no ? Did you find any relationship with the PA anywhere?
      Like maybe a 16 years old is dominating because he is CA 110 but his PA is 120 so he'll never be a great player so I guess he will have good stats because he is good now but doesn't tell you anything about the future?

    • @mustermannfm
      @mustermannfm  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@xavinwonderland you apply common sense. If you are looking to sign someone from a significantly lower division, you aren't looking for players whose metrics are merely outliers, but whose performances are clearly far above anything that would be expected.
      Moneyball prioritises evidence over potential. Scouts will give you feedback on room for growth. That is more than sufficient. If a player is dominant at a young age and there's a big difference between perceived ability and potential, then there's a good chance that player will turn out okay.

      The boundaries aren't likely to change a significant amount, but there'll be a much lower confidence interval.

      ...there isn't a single answer. Not at role level, and most certainly not at positional level. What you want from a player is very much dependant on your tactic and other players within the squad.
      For that reason, I focus on a holistic approach, which I believe is far more useful both for those new and experienced to data-led recruitment. Understanding how everything ties together and considering all those factors gives you the agency to learn and develop your own opinions. As opposed to "internet man told me to sign player with this stat...why is it not working!?"

    • @mustermannfm
      @mustermannfm  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@steveotoole200 by and large, apply common sense. If the player is playing in an "easier" league, then you might want them to standout a little more. You might consider 0.3 xA to be your threshold for a playmaker in the DSTV Premiership, when you'd otherwise be happy with 0.25 xA to be your threshold in the Liga BWIN.
      But, there's always going to be nuance. Leagues have different playstyles. A header win rate of 71% for centre backs is much more impressive in the Eredevisie than it is in the Australian A league, despite the Eredivisie clearly being the "better" league.
      Furthermore, quality of teammates matter. Scoring 30 goals in League One, when your chances are dependant on being created by guys who can't pass or cross, is an impressive feat.

      If you wish to disable player search, you need to edit Mustermann Iconic/sections/sidebar sections.xml, line 487:
      This needs to be changed to:
      You'll then need to save the file, reload the skin with caching off.
      If you also want to disable staff search, that is line 709:
      This needs to be changed to:

    Cheapest player is 475k euro is where I got to in your video. These videos are all the same. They all assume you have a big bundle of cash at the beginning, or managing a decent reputation club. Moving on...

    • @mustermannfm
      @mustermannfm  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sorry to hear it's not for you.
      I do try to address a broad range of clubs, but as established in the first 10 seconds of the video, the focus here is on the Top 30 leagues. There is always at least 1 player in every video who is willing to play in those leagues ranked 25th-30th, despite being good enough (in my opinion) for a higher level, and at an affordable price point.
      The cheapest so far has been 80k, but ultimately every player recommended is going to cost a fee at the start of the game. When focussing on performance statistics, the players need to be at a club. And performing regularly. And performing well. Across multiple simulations. That's before considering whether they're "interesting" enough to make a shortlist of 9.
      But even if there isn't a specific player for your needs, there is focus on how to look at metrics, how they can help you profile a player, when metrics are concerning and when they're not. I appreciate this might not be helpful to you.
