In 1987 I set up heart on thier bad animals tour, and after the show I was walking bye Thier dressing room when Ann called me in they Ann and Nancy had Thier little dogs with them and asked me if I could get some water for them,back then no bottles so I got huge paper cup with water brought it back to them and they both gave me a pack on my cheek it was surreal I just floated back to the stage and loaded out

My high school girlfriend dragged me to a Heart concert due to a couple of love songs they had on the radio. I really didn’t want to go.
They rocked out the entire time. And then closed out with a bunch of Zeppelin covers. Freaking amazing.

I saw Heart at pub called the Fraser Arms in Vancouver, BC in the mid-70s. It was a great show, small stage with a dance floor in front of the stage. I didn't know who they were when I walked into the show. But, I spent the evening dancing to their incredible sound.
The '70s were a great time to be a puberty-driven teenage miscreant. Tube tops and tight-ass bell-bottom jeans, every girl was on the pill and AIDS was in the future. We measured bags of pot by the finger, not the gram. And we had music like this. Good times. lol

I saw Heart in the late 70's at Mile High Stadium as part of Super Sunday concert series - 2 opening bands and 2 Headliners. Heart was on before Ted Nugent. We did not want Heart to leave the stage.

And I know we all focus on Ann and Nancy Wilson but the rest of the band is truely phenominal as well. Credit where credit is due!
I saw Heart twice. Once in about 1986, and again in about 1989 or 90. They’re freaking awesome. I’d go again. Ann Wilson can still sing just as good as she could back in the day. She’s my favorite female singer and she does not disappoint live. They are an amazing band. If you guys ever get the chance to go, you should.
Heart recorded this at Mushroom Studios in North Vancouver so they played in Vancouver a fair amount. I saw them as often as I could afford on my McDonald's salary. Just before the album first came out, you could afford them to play your school grad. By 1977, when I graduated, that was no longer possible. At least not any public high school.
We were so not shocked by these lyrics back in the day. Things have changed. lol But another one that to me is even more suggestive is "Crazy on You" - which you might've reacted to. Another banger!
I thought nothing of the lyrics, except that they were perfect for the song.
That electric lead guitar is all Roger Fisher. The co-founder of Heart.

Another song that has a similar vibe is Black Velvet by Alannah Myles. It’s a tribute to Elvis Presley and all the paintings that were done of him on actual black velvet back in the 70s. I think you’d enjoy it.😊

You waited in line for an album by a band that no one had heard of when released? It took that album 6 months or more to take off, the first single "How Deep It Goes" tanked and didn't even chart. It wasn't until "Crazy on You" got a huge reception on Album Oriented Rock stations and the single cracked the Top 40 (only made it to 35) that the album started selling. I'm thinking you must be talking about Little Queen or Magazine as far as waiting in line at it's release.
@@k.wilkie3814 my mom and I saw them play in a bar she loved them and kept up with them. They had people that wanted that album before they were popular. Bands have a f following before they get famous. We watch them come up. We love them from the beginning.
Saw them twice myself. 1977 at Day on the Green in Oakland colosseum with Eagles, Foreigner , Steve Miller, and ARS. Then I believe 1986 at Six Flags over Texas. Had a great time and will never forget the one in Oakland. Wish I had gone to more of them. Especially the one with Lynyrd Skynyrd. Heart was great both times!
Oh Barracuda live is a rocker good video and they did rock it out.
I was in jr. high in the 70s and graduated in '82. This song brings back some awesome, flirty, memories. Tingles up your spine, goosebumps, head spinning kind of experiences...if you know what I mean LOL!!
I was lucky to see them live during this Dreamboat Annie tour as well as the Magazine tour and the Dog and Butterfly tour. What a great act! Yes I’m that old,68. I love the musical era I grew up in, definitely the best music!
Heart, being a Seattle Based Band, and me being from there, I saw them before they were famous. As is true with all Bands and artists, you start playing small Bars and Lounges and work your way up as you become known and forge a reputation as a good Band. I was maybe 20 years old and I got to experience Heart, in (or really on) a Ferry Boat that someone rented and had a few different Bands play on. It was so cool, cruising around Puget Sound and Elliott Bay drinking and partying with a couple hundred other people and listening to this great music. A great old memory from almost 50 years ago.

I saw John Cougar open for Heart in the 80's. They are just as good live as on recordings.
Its a good song heard it many times on the radio traveling in Michigan classic music radio.
I'm not absolutely sure on details but, I do remember there was great unhappiness with the music they got locked into in the 80's. The 70's they sure did "Rock" our World. Thank you for such a great choice.

Who would ever argue that. I first herd this in 1977 on a shortwave radio with AM in my bedroom from 89 WLS.
2 years before they hit it big, I was living next door in Hollywood, California to a rehab house for well known entertainers relatives that had issues. I was 14 and I sang and played guitar. These 2 beautiful young women played their songs and I played mine. They sat in a little room with me and encouraged me saying I had real potential. It turned out to be Ann and Nancy. I never knew that until a few years later for they were nobody when I met them. That is my Heart story
Two years before they hit it big they were in Vancouver and Nancy was at Portland State University. They never lived in Hollywood

Used to see Heart at Oil Can Harry’s nightclub in Vancouver on a regular basis in the 70’s just before they dropped the Dreamboat Annie album, recorded at Mushroom studios. Everyone knew that it was a matter of time before they hit it big. Man, those were good times.
I've met Ann and Nancy several times. Very nice people, Nancy tends to be very outgoing and Ann is more introverted but both are nice people. Neither of them are arrogant or give off any type of "I'm a rock star" vibe. They've had so many highs but also a few lows and I imagine those lows have kept them pretty grounded. You'd never know that Ann is the greatest female hard rock singer we've very had from talking to her -- she is humble and appreciative of the compliments.
Hi check Heart performing Stairway to Heaven at Kennedy Center Honours! Ann is in her 60's and she rocks the house, including the Obamas!

Anne Wilson has said that the 'Magic Man' in the song was their Manager, who was older than her and she was 18 or 19. I remember when this album was released in 1975. I was amazed, because women in rock--especially women guitarists like Nancy--was rare. Oh, and they were heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin and covered a lot of their songs during early gigs while trying to make it. And the sound varies when you talk directly into the mic or not. 🙂
Great show! I'm new to your channel. Do you do obscure stuff? I'm a big fan of some of the West Coast-y CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) that came out in the late 70s and early 80s. It didn't get much airplay, but some of it is fantastic. I know you like "Sailing" by Christopher Cross. Well, that album was produced by Michael Omartian, who produced and played on lots of CCM. I'll give you a few song titles to check out in case you're interested: "Eagle Song" by the Imperials, "Time" by Phil Keaggy, and "Jeremiah" by Michael Omartian. God bless you guys!

I saw them in ‘75 in providence. There were women playing guitars at this time but this was the first time seeing them plugged in.
8TH GRADE.. Was awesome in North Jersey
Heart's first 5 studio albums were very strong with hidden gem after hidden gem from start to finish.
Heart underwent some line-up changes over time. They evolved from 70's progressive rock to more of an 80's commercialized pop rock style. They had some strong hit songs in the 80's but each pop rock album as a whole didn't pack quite the same punch.
Their 80s “commercial”rock was pure garbage. I agree, their first few albums are the best.

The Wilson Sisters had made many statements over the years since regarding how much they were unhappy with their "revamped" 80's image.
That's more your opinion than fact. I share the same opinion, but I know a lot of people who loved Heart's 80s and 90s output far more than the 70s. I think a lot of that has to do with age. Also a lot of people only know Heart's singles in the 80s which tended to be power ballads. Those 80s albums tended to be a good deal harder than the singles.
@@k.wilkie3814 The facts are the Wilson sisters did lose some creative control over their music & their image in the 80's. They were pushed into going a corporate pop rock direction and they were unhappy. You can easily find interviews where they discuss what actually occurred and how they felt about it.
The only part that is opinion here is if the fans preferred the creatively hindered commercialized pop rock albums of the 80's versus the sisters having the full creative freedom to go their own path.

If you like the softer side of 70's rock then try "How Deep It Goes", "(Love Me Like Music) I'll Be Your Song", "Soul Of The Sea" and "Dreamboad Annie - (Reprise)" from their first album.
I'm from Seattle and my uncle told the story of how he would go see Nancy Wilson when she was playing solo at a club. Now he never said there was any romance but during her breaks they'd go out to his little spitfire (car) and smoke dope together. Of course a few years later she would team up with her sister Ann when they played together in the band Heart.

The Hart sister where under contract and didn't want to make soft rock but they had to do it so they can go on MTV thats when videos got big.
They didn't make any soft rock. Those 80s albums were all hard rock, it's just that the record company tended to release power ballads as singles. But those were definitely not soft rock albums. I'm guessing you've never heard any of those albums in their entirety or you'd know that.

Their early stuff wasn't as profitable but was far superior in every way. Ann and Nancy are treasures but the chemistry in this line-up (musically) can't be beat. They were at their peak then.
Want the story on the song. They were on the Howard Stern Show 3 months ago and talked about this song. Ann had run off to Canada with a draft dodger and her mom called and was pleading her to come home. This song is about that phone call. They talk about it more in depth on the clip[ from the Stern show look it up they do this one too after they give the story. Ann still sounds great at 74 years of age.

I saw the Dog And Butterfly tour beginning of 1979 at Cobo Arena , Detroit Michigan...I was 16 years old....then the next year Joe Louis Arena for the Bebe La Strange tour...after that maybe 4 times at Casino Windsor/Caesars Windsor...Windsor Ontario Canada in the last 15 years !!!,,,they are touring soon with Cheap Trick....both bands still have their vocal chops....look it up in your area....DON'T MISS OUT...SERIOUSLY !!!

Be prepared for the concert. When we saw them back in 15 or 16 they came out and hit you right in the mouth with about 3 songs straight that were flat out rock songs. Then they took a minute to talk to you.
They sound much harder live than off an album, or they did back then. Ann’s voice is really big live, even at this age.
I imagine the Magic Man they sing about might be a rock star whose music could mesmerize and influence its female audience, some who were groupies at the time. There is definitely something sexy about a hot guy who knows his way around the guitar or drums. We ladies have always known that!

I believe Ann wrote this about guitarist Roger Fisher, innuendo heavy, his “magic hands” were a nod to his guitar playing…the explanation given if you’re a good Catholic school girl, lol…great tune/great reaction!
My buddy got them some blow back in the 70s. Said they were great, him and his crew where riding and at a stoplight a limo drives up and its the band and they wanted to party and seeing maniac and his gang figured they would obviously have some merchandise on them. So they followed the band to the hotel and tied one on all night. The maniac always had shit on him. Couldn't pass a piss test but he was a good soldier.

I never liked Alone either but absolutely love Dreamboat Annie. I actually recorded the album on reel to reel tape when it was played on a Toronto radio station before it was actually released. Kind of a première I guess. I also saw them shortly after in a small venue in western NY opening for the Doobie Bros - fantastic show! It was in a gym or something I remember we were sitting in rows of wooden folding chairs.
The story is about the manager at the time Mike Fisher...his brother is Roger Fisher , the guitar player , who was with Nancy Wilson....so Ann and Nancy broke up with the 2 brothers during the Dog and Butterfly tour in 1979...Thank God I got to see Roger playing guitar in the band still !!!!...early 70's, Mike Fisher was a draft dodger and he and Ann took off to Vancouver Canada, to do music and for his escape !!!

Magic Man is a great song. I saw Heart in the late '70s when I was in HS. In 2019 my son bought me tickets for my birthday to see Heart at The Hollywood Bowl in LA and I have to tell you they sound just as great now as they did then. If you're going to do a live version of Heart do Straight On where they performed in the summer of 1994 and recorded a series of intimate shows in their hometown of Seattle. The setting was a 500-seat club. They performed new acoustic arrangements of their best-known works. The Road Home album where they perform Straight On for me is one of their best with that bass and super funky sound. Great reaction. Hey Ann & Nancy were recently on the Kelly Clarkson Show & Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. They just started their most recent tour. Its called the Royal Flush tour. So,they may be playing live close to where you live. Ann. (the older sister & the brunette) still sounds just like or very close to how she sounded when this song 1st came out. She & her sister Nancy (the blonde) ate still ricking it out. ,even though they are both now in their 70's
We are planning to see them in November.

To me it's a coming of age song where the girl first falls in love. Yeah he gets high but she might have as well before she met him. You never know cuz it doesn't explain that. But you know it's basically saying that she's in love with him. That's why it's magic. You know like the magic between two people and she wants to stay with him and be with him. You know basically it's coming of age and maybe first love or first real love I don't see it as being dirty or anything like that just two people meeting and falling in. Love and she's telling her mom how much she's in love with him and it's magical . Also check out enigma rivers of belief and sadness and probably every song on that album
