I got to tour The Fantasy of Flight before it closed and I was SO impressed! I am eagerly awaiting the opening of your new vision and as I'm 70 years old now I hope it won't take too long. LOL! Thank you, Kermit, for all you do. It truly is appreciated.

Are you hiring? Mechanic of 35 years here, looking for something that kindles my passion of working on anything vintage and mechanical. Combining that with my love of vintage aircraft would certainly do the trick! And PLEASE don't ever get rid of your Mechanics Corner videos!! They are the absolute BEST! Best of luck in your ventures, Mr. Weeks.

I have a feeling this will be a GREAT success!! The Golden Age of Flight aircraft are so graceful and beautiful. I hope the people out there in Florida will flood your new facility and make all your hope's and dreams come true. As an aircraft mechanic, I hope to make it out to your facility one day and see these magnificent machine's in the air, where they belong. You'll always have my respect and support. Keep up the GREAT work my friend. I'm looking forward to seeing more video's from ya. 👍👍

I could see a dovetail with SpaceX/BlueOrigin/etc as an analog to "tomorrow." Given their heavy investment in Florida, as well as the impact on aviation, and popular interest, I would see them as a natural partnership.
You're selling dreams. The evolution of inspiration and engineering.
I can't wait to bring my kids.

Kermit-Been a fan for a long time. I'm 62 and retired due to disability and your videos are fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the FM-2 vids as my dad's older brother was a carrier naval aviator in the Pacific theater in 1944 & 45. Please keep headed in what you believe is the right direction. If you haven't seen Bob Collings American Heritage museum you should visit and you can fly right in on their own runway! Best Wishes for 2020.

      @Heathh49008 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

He doesn't need discovery channel. If you see the hits he is getting on simple restoration videos, he can use new media to touch people directly.
I don't know if Kermit understands how much he and the team has amazed and inspired people with the dedication and hard work in his FoF Mechanics Corner series. While he is correct that it won't fill a theme park 360 days a year, I'm not certain if he understands how many of us would gladly purchase/subscribe/etc to the content he creates.

    • @richardcooke5415

Observations which help visitors at attractions for your planning phase::
People especially like to interact with stuff: wearing flight gear, themed photos etc.
Harassed parents need help: lost kids point, seating, toilets.
Disabled considerations: Sensory disability thought of (e.g. ear defenders) wheelchair access.
Dining: easy to read menus, high chairs, quick service.
Something for everyone: stats for the nerds, talking heads (what it was all really like, not just the flying), experiences from the young to the old, women's views and achievements.
Some good ideas in these comments ....I especially like the skydiving tube attraction to inspire within a closed space.
Good luck Kermit, a visit to the finished attraction is on my bucket list.

You hit a trigger point with me, Kermit (that I agree with you 100% on). Humans crave learning and new experiences. It is probably the greatest thing that defines us as a species. As a previous public school teacher, I have seen no better institution at killing the desire to learn than the formal school environment. College is better than primary and secondary school, but still falls short. We, as humans, in this day and age, have the ability to learn whatever we want. The greatest motivator for education is learning that which is relevant and useful.

As a young boy, I looked forward to trips to see relatives near Atlanta because at least one day would be spent at Grant's Park and the zoo. Hi Kermit. I have always enjoyed the video content of your channel and would have loved to be able to visit Fantasy of Flight before it closed. You have a unique approach to sharing your aviation knowledge and experience via your videos with the enthusiasts out there. Thank you for these much appreciated videos.I completely understand why a privately owned aviation museum is not profitable. However, In my personal opinion, aviation and other museums have relevance in our society and always will. That said, your new venture sounds exciting and will certainly appeal to different, perhaps much larger segment, of the population, I wish you great success and profitability.

Absolutely spot on Kermit. Museums clearly need a big re think in the modern world, though very few are brave or visionary enough to see or admit it.
I have been trying to get this message across to some organisations over here in the uk, but the response is often the same, and criticism no matter how constructive is often not welcomed. Kinda this is how it’s always been, so this is how it will always be.
I, like you feel this is what I am here to do, so despite nobody listening for the last 20 odd years I carried on developing my concepts, and although I have only found you relatively recently on TH-cam we have arrived at a similar place, I would love to share some ideas with you that I have which I think you may be interested in if you would be willing.
I think what you are doing is brilliant,
Best wishes & happy new year from the uk.

Kermit sir you are not only a natural born motivational speaker but go one step beyond that ,you become the self motivated doer, listening to what you have to say has enlightened many as to your personal dreams which you want to fulfill as a massive challenge in the years that you realistically have left ahead, this is a massive undertaking for anyone and I know that you will proceed in a manner that has a building block process steadily moving onto the next stage as buildings and themes evolve into manageable steps that will surface into reality, this Kermit apart from what you have already created and gathered together in the form of rare aeroplanes is the legacy you want to leave behind, you have always shared your passion for aviation with us and now that passion extends beyond into interesting infrastructure that will ensure survival and longevity to what you have already achieved and created.
You need to do it because that is the kind of person you are unless you try something it will bug you forever as a lost opportunity,we know that the aeroplanes will always be safe in the background and will have become the catalyst for something far greater for far more people to enjoy, many people have found out that air museums simply cannot survive with the enthusiast intake alone but this way at least you are providing the opportunity if people wish to still achieve access to your wonderful collection.
If only more people were so transparent with their intentions in this world today,I look forward to seeing your personal aims manifest into the reality they deserve,if anyone can achieve this then you can, thank you as always for your kindness towards people and sharing the history that you have already put together in one spot despite hurricane's attempting to destroy that dream in the past, bravo.

I live in the U.K. and I am now 76 years old, so I don't think I will be able to visit by the time it is built and it does not make me want to be there. However, good luck with your dream, you deserve success after all the money you have spent in the past.

If I lived in Florida I would buy a season ticket, but what I would really love to do is to volunteer work around the workshop, the chance to learn from Paul, Ken and the other guys would be fantastic.

Best wishes, Kermit! I understand your point about aviation museums. I went to the RAF museum at Hendon a few years ago .... amazing aircraft but very few people. Maybe interest in them was of a time ... The 50s, 60s, 70s maybe. I still find the old planes incredible and exciting but that attitude seems to have faded. Duxford has very big, very successful shows several times a year and Shuttleworth shows have a very distinct character and are much loved ... a beautiful place. Maybe that quality is crucial.

KERMIT... One of the best things about Busch Gardens is their restaurant which overlooks the animal areas. For many years, it was called the Crown Colony. A few years ago, they revamped it and renamed it the Serengeti Overlook. My wife and I would have eaten there every week if we didn't have to pay the admission to get into the rest of the park. PLEASE have a good restaurant and please sell "restaurant admission" for folks who just want to dine and enjoy the atmosphere. If you do, we'll become regular customers for sure.
6:41 - "And I realized, over 35 years, that most people aren't fascinated by old airplanes."
    HEATHENS!!!!!
20:08 - I will always regret never getting to go to the 356th Fighter Group restaurant at the Akron-Canton (Ohio) Airport. I hope you will have something similar in your WWII area.
42:43 - I still have a set of the commemorative glasses from your grand opening. :) Best line of the night (one employee to another, at the flight simulators), "You don't have to explain the controls to General Chuck Yeager."

Happy New Year Mr Weeks. I think Mr Troyer below is on the right track. Someone should be able to walk into your facility and at the end of the day know what it takes to build and fly an aircraft and what is does for society. There should be reading areas where a person can get lost in all the wonderful details of manuals and publications of an aircraft and engines and stories of those magnificent men and women who designed and built them.

Walt Disney sunk ALL of his money and assets into building Disneyland because he believed in his vision. I get the same feeling from Mr. Weeks and feel he's really onto something special with this.
I'm a history nut that reads prodigious amounts of books and I've had about the same experience with 'formal' education that produces parrots instead of critical thinkers that we desperately need today. I've NEVER thought about history in the way he described it "they did this, we did that, BOOM! right down the middle". It's actually profound to realize it's how history is taught. The other option is to do what the so called History Channel has done recently-just avoid teaching anything in general.
I agree about museums-kids today don't want to just look at a static display because our over-saturation with media has produced a culture of instant gratification. If one can succeed in making them forget about the device in their hands for just that one moment where the spark goes off inside them, it's a way of making them realize there's much more to life than the shallow ocean many feel trapped in that's actually immensely deep if they know how to find it.

Lately, it's been either the Sikorsky S-39 or my newly acquired Waco YMF-5. They're both easy to manage for me to get out by myself.

i would suggest "to light that spark" period correct dance events , gala charleston ,jitterbug swing ,elvis early rock n roll , etc great food dance and just enough booze to keep the feet tappin. the journey if self discovery is really what flying really comes down to in my opinion ,i have been a professional musician and a newbie pilot i have felt the same feelings when on final approach as when stepping on stage . the self confidence that comes from learning out side ones comfort zone is a great thing .that being said maybe dinner theatrical events with the audience being involved could be more "accessible" to a wider base

Kermit, this was the most fascinating video, on the tube, I've ever seen. You will inspire many with this thinking and one has to be inspired to develop a passion. I can see many young people developing a passion for something when they leave there. It doesn't matter what it is but to have a passion and I mean a real passion, when your young, you are one of the lucky few even when your older.
    Thanks for your time,
    Lee

    Hi Kermit,
I'm guessing you get hundreds of comments and suggestions from all kinds of people (so in a way I apologise for adding to the "noise"), but have you considered including an indoor skydiving facility? I did an indoor skydiving day a couple of weeks ago and it was great, I would really recommend it to anyone. Everyone I mention it to wants to know the details and wants to book a slot etc, I really think it ties in very well with theme of flying and personal discovery.
All the best for the new year.

I admire your determination and from businessmen pilot to another well done. I used to wonder why I felt so drained whilst pursuing my goals and dreams, and I meditated on this to realise I was in energy deficit with a handful of the people around me. When I moved on from them (energy suckers) in a friendly non destructive way I found myself energy neutral, I then started advancing. When I again later added energy positive people that didn’t just identify problems but ventured a solution to negate and even further enhance the task at hand, this had the effect of enhancing my own growth and higher energy levels. So when I arrive home after each day I am energised and excited for the next day. Kermit, love following your progress and stay a lovely man and positive people shall flow to you.

Could you give a little more detail (without too much detail) of what these “attraction elements” are going to be? Is it a ride or a simulator or what can we expect?

    • @KermitWeeks444
      @KermitWeeks444  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Don't want to release any specifics at this stage of the development. I can tell you that there will be a combination of simulated, immersive and tactile attractions that will physically, mentally and emotionally engage people beyond what they've experienced in any attraction before.

Kermit's point of aviation attractions not being sustainable is well made. I have always looked up at aircraft passing overhead; been doing so since becoming sentinent, continued through my flying days and still do, though I no longer fly. I've never witnessed anyone not interested in aviation ever look up. Unbelievably, not even during a backyard barbeque when Aluminum Overcast flew low near my house, did anyone other than me look up. When Kermit's vision comes to fruition, I think it will be something people will need to experince, not just want to experience. If one day I'm age 90 (hopefully) and I'm driving through the gate for the first, or the last time looking for inspiration I don't expect the word "Flight" to be in the marquee. It just won't fly. Pun intended.

Hi, I have been helping to run a youth programs (Young Falcon and Sakhikamva program) in Cape Town SA, to teach previously disadvantaged kids how to fly, and what my contribution is to build up simulators so that they can get the feeling of what it is like to fly.
You can have simulators that people can fly and see what it feels like to fly, in a safe environment. If you put them on gimbals (which I have not put my Impala or Shackleton or the others, bit expensive)

You go do what your drive and passion lead you to do. I'll buy a ticket. Include restoration shop OBSERVATION opportunities, please. I'll buy multiple tickets. Was planning a trip with my then 11 year old grandson and 84 year old father to Act II when you closed it down. Looking forward to bringing them down when you reopen. But hurry, dad is 90 now and I am in poor health.
