In Japan, there is an imperial calendar. Each time a new emperor comes to the throne, there's a new era. So Heisei was 1989-2019. And Reiwa is 2019 onwards. Others like Meiji (1868-1912), Taishou (1912-1926) and Shouwa (1926-1989) are the most well known.
