    Ryan and Margot were born to play Barbie and Ken. Their facial expressions were gold.
    The actress playing the mom I have watched in a variety of things starting with The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. I loved her in the tv show Superstore an absolute must watch show. There is violence in that show and a couple deaths as well if youre interested.

      idk I think they should have casted younger and not-so-known actors to play them, I’d cast Peyton List (if she wasn’t busy working at Cobra Kai) and Owen Joyner instead, but then again it’s a movie made for millennials ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    I think the biggest takeaway from Barbie and Ken’s conversation in the dream house came from what Barbie learned, from her convo with the mom. That just because she isn’t the things that make her stereotypical, doesn’t mean that she isn’t still herself. That she isn’t defined by physical things. Ken came to that same conclusion eventually because he was trying to use all the stereotypically masculine things to gain something within himself, particularly Barbie’s attention. But Barbie was never interested romantically, because she was her own person, but didn’t know it yet. Eventually Ken realizes the same thing Barbie learned, that he is enough, with her attention or not, with his favorite things, or not. That only he can define who he is and that is where his happiness will come from.
    My big critique of the movie is that it didn’t go far enough to how Mattel as a corporation (and all corporations under capitalism) fabricate this idea of being complete with things or people. Ken was literally created to only be interested in Barbie. Mattel failed him, and not Barbie, because the things he was created for and presumably told he needed to have to feel complete didn’t come true. Ken takes out his frustration onto Barbie, and attributes it to the fact that she doesn’t want to be his girlfriend, but it’s actually Mattel’s fault for creating him (convincing him, rather) to have only one goal: be with Barbie, then he will be complete. In the real world, many people take out their unhappiness onto other people because they weren’t fitting into a box they were told they needed. The Ken’s song verbalizes that frustration. The journey inward of self-discovery is realizing the box is just an idea to sell items, and only you can dictate your own happiness. The Kens and Barbie’s and Allan are not responsible for each other’s feelings but do however, have the responsibility to tear down their world view in favorite of a new structure that is more equitable to them and free from that pressure

    • @BelBelle468
      @BelBelle468 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      While I do agree with your take, I think while capitalism does propagate the idea to make money, it’s also very much a cultural thing. The movie seemed to want to lean more in on the cultural and spiritual side of why ppl might think in such a way rather than focusing it on capitalism’s role in pushing it. They def alluded to it slightly, and could’ve done more with it, but maybe the movie wanted ppl to self reflect on their own beliefs rather than blaming capitalism wholly.

      @@BelBelle468also, Mattel still funded and had to approve the movie… any harsh and clear criticism on consumerism probably wouldn’t be allowed

      But I hated how this movie portrayed Ken by saying “he is nothing without Barbie”, that “he is just her accessory” and that “no one cares about him”, because Ken did have his own impact in the pop culture without Barbie, he’s known as the 1st himbo and a metrosexual icon but the movie wouldn’t let him more than this limited idea they had of him

    For myself, one of the greatest moments was towards the end, when everyone was sadly waving goodbye to Barbie. Compared that to the first time she left: It was a new Barbie adventure! Everyone was there and cheering and there were posters and joy and smiles! They knew she was going to have a great time and come back and share it with all of them.
    But not at the end of the movie. They knew she wasn't coming back. This wasn't a trip or a new adventure. This was the final farewell, full of bittersweet emotion and the sense of inevitability that comes with permanent loss.

Just need money to the production, clothes and actors to make exactly the same. That would be the biggest hit to so many people. But like literally the same movie, no change anything. THANK YOU for saying out loud why I'm always annoyed by the actions of Margot Robbie's Barbie. The actress is awesome and the last scenes where she becomes human are amazing but during the whole movie she absolutely doesn't have the Barbie spirit and personality. If she was supposed to be "stereotypical" Barbie and what "everyone thinks about when they hear Barbie" she should have a personality that echoes the movies. But in the end I just think this wasn't a Barbie movie for the Barbie movies fans. It was a movie for those who probably don't even know about the Barbie movies, those who care more about the dolls or the Barbie movies fans who knew they shouldn't be expecting A Barbie movie like what we've been loving for the past 22 years.

    this was the funniest Barbie commentary I've seen yet. I was wondering if you'd pick up on the theme I noticed in that last scene of Barbie relating to her creator and "surprising" her with her free-willed desire to be human, it makes me think about how we as humans might actually relate to our creator not as possessions or playthings but as beings with similar agency, with the ability to surprise and awe the one who made us.

    Alan is an important character to include in a film that discusses the dichotomy and conflict between men and women. He represents the demographic that doesn't fit either of these categories: queer men, trans men, non-binary folks... Even though they're men (or something completely else), they don't benefit from the patriarchy and are on the "side" of women. As a trans masculine person, I immediately recognised him as that and found him relatable in that sense. That is of course just one of many interpretations of his character.

    The wait was worth it, and now Welchy’s here so woohoo! 🎉
    Edit: I always tear up rewatching scenes with Ruth Handler, explaining to Margot's Barbie that Barbie, as an idea, will live on - and the way she comforts Margot's Barbie is like a mother talking to her daughter. To me, it's such a sweet scene

    This movie is made for casual audiences, not Barbie fans. Ordinary Barbies has been saturating the market for a decade now among other things the movie ignored.

    There's one thing many man say, that makes my alarm go off;
    Why can't Barbie be nice and hang with Ken?! To begin with, because that's not how girls play with them. Then, after being in the real world they both had thoughts and reactions and feelings of their own. And Barbie realize she was mean to Ken, But She Still Don't Wanna Be With Him.
    And why/how is it mean not to wanna be with someone? No one have the right to demand another human (doll)
    It's like some men think if they fancy a woman it's her duty to at least try with him .
    If it was the other way around men would call her needy, craving and weird, and tell her to get a life.

    I love you reactions welchy! I loved this movie cause at the end the message is that neither gender should be above the other, it hurts to be objectified or seen as an accessory. Thank you so much for reacting!

    I still haven't watched the movie myself and honestly, after everyone's reactions, I don't want to 😂 I was going to wait to watch everyone's commentaries until after I watched the movie; but after Dylan uploaded his, I had to. So far Welchys is hilarious. His laughs make me laugh. It's so funny how just about all of you have the same opinion about the movie.
    And you're correct, it's not badass Barbie 😭

    Welchy, the only fair thing to do is to dump all over the Jem and the Holograms movie. This is probably the only movie that the fans will thank you for dumping on, but you have to watch the 1985 - 1988 TV show. Then you see why even the fans, myself included, HATE and LOATHE the Jem and the Holograms movie.
