NASA just got its closest look at Saturn yet - here's what it saw

- On April 26, NASA flew its Cassini spacecraft closer to Saturn than ever before. In fact, it's the closest any spacecraft has ever come to Saturn - just 1,900 miles from the beautiful planet's cloud tops.
Even more exciting, Cassini has already transmitted images of what it saw from its deepest dive yet. These are the closest images of Saturn ever taken.
The images you're seeing in the video are just hours old, which means that NASA has not yet had time to fully process them. When you consider that Saturn is 750 million miles away - about 9 times farther than Earth is to the Sun - these close ups are nothing short of miraculous.

RIP Cassini on September 15th
Boi lol rip u will be remembered
I cant find any names so im going with dis one Ok yup
Boi Rip Cassini, you will be remembered.
Cassini is a cartoon guys... geez...
Acidic flow 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
When they crash it into Saturn, the Saturnites will see it as a declaration of war and all hell will break loose upon Earth.
well XD
I don't think I have ever thought of that xD. Made my day.
lmfaoo this is the last kind of comment i excepted to see on this kind of video 😂 😂
You can say that, but the possibility of life anywhere near Earth (10 lightyears) is horibbly unlikely.
Bob49 I think they prefer to be called Saturnians.
For all of you typing away at the comments "OH THIS IS FAKE NASA IS FAKE", lemme just put this out there...
First of all, its pretty obvious that the video is CGI, to demonstrate or show how Cassini (the spacecraft) went to Saturn.
Now they didn't focus much on the photos, and the photos might look really shitty but just to put this into your dumb uneducated head-
The Cassini Spacecraft was launched in October 15, 1997. That's probably a decade ago, and remember Space is a HUGE PLACE! It takes years just to reach another planet in our solar system in a spacecraft.
It took 19 years, from Earth to its supposed destination (Saturn) and it spent 12 years orbiting around Saturn to get a better look. (Although I'm not sure about this part correct me if I'm wrong)
Rather than complaining about the "shitty" quality of the pictures, I'm actually pretty amazed that a camera probably made in the 1990s was able to survive in space for so long and how the fuck the spacecraft can last so long.
To me, good job NASA!!! 😊😊👍👍
Ms. Lizzy Blitz Amen to you.
its fake
you are dumb
Ms. Lizzy Blitz I couldn't have said it better *gives you a round of applause* and yeah I agree. NASA actually did a great job since a spacecraft built in the 90's has survived this long to be able to send us some cool pictures
You're wasting your time speaking rationally to flat-earthers, anti-vaccers and the like.
I feel bad for Cassini, does it really wanna die like that?
Conor McGregor's Left Hand
dude same I feel bad
why won't they spend their fucking instead of destroying cassini
Mobile gamer 2986 It ran out of fuel so there is no way of getting it back to earth.
Conor McGregor's Left Hand blaze of glory
Cassini was asked,it replied with " Bonzai! "
Goodbye casini on september😭😭😭😭😭
RIP Cassini. You had a good run
Paradox _ 😭😭
Paradox _ yea 😢😢 rip cassini
I'll probably facepalm a hole through my face before I finish reading the comment section.
mesoth mesoth same
1997 - 2017 is not 13 Years.
I know it takes 7 years to travel to Saturn but that should be added into "Time in Space"
It's scientific mission started only when it reached saturn. It was hibernating for 7 years.
The Family Photo never went there
Watch when they try crashing it into Saturn it's actually just a solid planet all this time
Mesa their core is solid.
+Mesa Saturn is a solid planet. It has a surface and terrain like any other planet does
no just no.
Friction still exists and they might be trying to burn it down
+Isaiah Gas giants still have surfaces. They're called gas giants because they have really dense atmospheres, really low surfaces and they're fucking huge. It's a common misconception, don't worry.
It's really nice that they put such huge writing over the video - to make it even harder to see the imagery, most of which is animation made right here on Earth. Goes very nice with the soupy music.
Also nice that they have someone reading aloud the text that they put over the images for those of us, like myself, who are illiterate. Very thoughtful I think.
Thank you Cassini, you have served mankind well.
I love how NASA deals with their spacecrafts after their last mission "Sir what shall we do with Cassini" "Fly it into the fuckin atmosphere" *Does a kickflip*
R.I.P cassini
"INFINITY AND BEYOND" - Cassini's last words.
when did they start narrating their videos?
I was watching some of their videos and my volume was on mute lol I didn't see that coming
Rest in Peaces! Cassini, you were amazing, you made lots of passes
You were awesome
You got SOO close to satern! You will be missed!
RIP Cassini
October 1997 - September 2017
You will always be in our moons...
Incredible, to think that the first powered flight was 114 years ago, a rapid progression? THAT is awe inspiring.
i feel so bad for cassini, but it's had a good life seeing and doind the things it did, so we could see what it saw. Forever rest in peace cassini
Holy Hell! Great work Cassini!
Sci-fi Geek 123 (deal with it! XD) AND YET IS GOING TO DIE😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
And she shall be missed! 😭
wait until the images are "processed" it will be amazing.
I still remember the day it was sent from earth on 1997,I was a 21 year old youngster. Now i have turned 41.Well done cassini.Thumbs up.
R.I.P Cassini
never thought how cool the rings would look standing on saturn. Crazy stuff, even though 90% of it was 3D art.
R.I.P Cassini.
What is that black line on saturn
they make something so terrifying look so comforting
Almost shed a tear for Cassini
happy 1 year birthday to this video
What are the background music title???????? For 1 and a half year i have been searching
Pleaseee
1 second of awesome pictures
So excited!!!!! For this!!!
Please use the metric system. Thank you.
Woah, he got so lucky to see Saturn so close!
Rest in peace dear Cassini.
76000 mph is insanely fast, hope we can reach such speeds on earth .!!
When will new cassini take place instead of old one
That means when Cassini falls down, it goes down about 10 meters square every second.
i felt the look on its atmosphere can sustain life
What year?
I would give anything for 4k follow-cam footage of Cassini as it crashes into Saturn's atmosphere. It's will be glorious, but there won't be anyone within 800 million miles to see it.
Let's do marathon, on dat ring!
Well I hope it takes pics on the way into the atmosphere.
Cassini Went Down A Few Days Ago...You Will Be Remembered Cassini...
RIP Cassini NASA will miss you
"see you on the other side slick."
Wait a sec I thought there was a footage of what Cassini saw! Man I am requesting please change the title " Cassinis last mission " or something like that
how come we never get actual clear video footage, only stock grainy pictures. is it to heavy to get video equipment on a satellite?
its from 1997 what do you expect?
I was crying because of its death R.I.P you will be remembered spacecraft
IT was Launched in 1997 ...
PeterFied FM Yeah but I think that they are counting on when it first entered the saturn orbit, not the launch date
Cassini made me emotional-
My heart just broke and now I'm upset over a Satellite.
Wait! were are the pictures then? Can you post them or tell us were to go in order to verify what you are telling us is true?
Wow, uploaded on my dads B-DAY!
OH HEYYY
May 2 is my birthday.
Happy birthday buddy u officially going to Saturn.. one of ur fav planets
soundtrack please?
Saturn : Hah, what a nice day
*Some autistic flying thing comes*
Saturn : Wtf get out of my ring space
"Goodbye mission control. This is it."
i dont know why but i wanna salute to cassini.
robinkhaira1 yeah I agree
Cassini is a legend we feel bad for its life to end
Woah Cassini.
Hype for tomorrow then!
its like taking your friends car and crash it afterwards when you give it back
if there any lifeform on saturn's surface , they actually don't know the fact that there is a ring around their planet.
Well they have eyes and can look to the sky
You would see some GIANT RING all over the sky
Also no you cant stand on saturn, its just a big gas ball
Really a few seconds of Saturn and it would be in grayscale
Ilin Payne well cassini was made in the 1990s and it's 746 million miles away............
SpinosaurusStudios Late 2000's more often than not refers to 2000-2009.
that would be so cool if the probe survived !
I'm sure we all hope that happens. Unfortunately there is no way it can survive. :(
i really hope it takes one more picture in jupiter...
Here's what a computer simulation looks like of Saturn...
What is the Back ground Music?
!! Anybody !!
why did i cry over this oh my god
How cassini move or turn?? Who's in control??
RIP Cassini
Why is this all animation? Where are the real footages????
RIP Cassini !
The sci-fi novel "Midnight At the Well of Souls" by Jack L. Chalker and published in 1977 concerns a planet that has a hexagon (albeit much smaller) at its north pole. A true mind blower that I've not seen mentioned anywhere else.
How are videos of Cassini taken? The videos show fly by of Cassini, thus the question. How are videos of Cassini taken?
it's an animation
How can there be safety concerns for another planet?
Ok so I just watched this after watching the eerie sounds Cassini recorded from Saturn ITSELF. The creepiest thing is that some kind of alien could actually be producing those sounds deep within the planet, and there's probably tons of them waiting to be discovered.
*FUCK.*
What happens to those space crafts that are in space when they return back to earth ? Do they destroy them or store them ?? Just curious
well most never go back :D
We should send unmanned probes to mine rock from the outer rim of Saturn's rings, as to harvest samples without experiencing the full gravity field of the giant gas ball
"These photos are brand new and aren't processed yet."
Okay, so wait until they're fucking processed and then upload them so I'm not staring at what appears to be a close-up of 1965 television screen.
I wonder how much tons of rare metals we just sent into space....
GOOD LUCK CASSINI !
Im in 2018 and im glad to hear that
may 3rd did it pass ?
Cassini was launched in 1997, no reason the picture quality should be this shit, considering the 4k pics we got of pluto are from a probe launched just 7 later.
Oh what a great invention, build something is is strong enough to reach saturn and stick a camera to the thingy
This made me cry😭
Holy crap thats crazy
26k mph with no wear or tear .
Only 2 days left.
Saturn is so beautiful
but no..... no.... what ? 13 years run ?! ... oh no... I hope Cassini don't crash..... good luck Cassini ! make us proud !
it's sad to see my child hood space craft die soon next is voyager 1 and 2 is dead in 2025 i love the voyager program so much
so casini just going to break apart just like that once it comes to its final's mission? that is sad
Today is May 2nd, far out!!
This video is quite repetitive of what the earlier video was. Could have been much better with just the actual images and something else playing in the background. Honestly, I just enjoyed the raw photo and nothing else
The view from 1:24 to 1:33, is it real footage from Cassini?
No.
This is gonna piss off the xenomorphs.
If Saturn is a gas planet, what is there to crash into??? I imagine it just disintegrates due to extreme forces.
How come the camera quality is like 50p.They should get a phone camera or something to make the quality better.
Chill out, like I was suppose to know that sh*t
Why crash it, why not let it drift into space for eternity.
And then go to Andromeda
